I'm starting to suspect she's the unholy amalgamation of Coyote, Lana, Zimmy, and Loup. She has the mannerisms of the former two, the physical characteristics of Zimmy, and the last time we saw Zimmy, Loup, and Coyote was when they all tussled and sort of... melded into each other (and Lana had been "incorporated" by Coyote, if she wasn't him as goose wife in the first place). No?

This wordless page takes place as Kat, Annie, and Renard continue their conversation in the distance. But what's this? The mysterious long-haired NP whose actions Annie has questioned before is watching them talk from a distance. She's also watching the other NP carry Sam inside. Then she smiles – an odd thing to do when all the other NP are solemnly contemplating their mortality. With a mischievous expression and body language, not to mention some cartoony four-pointed stars that probably aren't diegetic, she sneaks her way into the throng of NP. But then we pull back to see ourselves looking over Annie's shoulder at this strange NP. Annie's seen this and is watching. Have she and Renard told Kat about this person? Well, has there been time? I read in the forum yesterday several posts about how the conversation between Kat and Annie on the previous page seemed fake, or out of character. What if Annie, Kat and Renard deliberately moved away to observe what happened – whether or not Annie said anything to Kat about why? Clever of Annie, although we know that Annie is terrible at lying, dissembling, and making small talk. It's possible that they've told Kat about this individual between pages. Kat may even have mentally asked her computer about that NP and found out that they don't exist. The grin and mischievous demeanor definitely argue against this being Zimmy. Again, I believe this is Coyote (or the part of Loup that's still Coyote or whatever), who deliberately steered the party toward a recreation of Jeanne so at least one of the NP would be killed, in order to make this Angel do something angelic. But if she's Coyote in disguise, I have no idea what Coyote might do now. He's seen Kat now. We don't know what he thinks of her. What else does he want here? Well, he probably still wants to make his plan come to fruition, which means Annie has to stab Loup with that tooth he gave her, but Loup isn't here as far as we know. We know he's annoyed that the "new god" messed up his plan, so he may want revenge on Kat for that. Is he going to kill another NP to force her to try to take them into the Ether without the Arbiter's help? Is he going to kill ALL the NP to force Kat to figure out how to take them all into the Ether? That would leave an awful lot of Ether lying around for the Court to use for their space voyage. But that's assuming the Court can manage to work around the distortion well enough to detect and collect all that Ether. But perhaps Omega has told them that this would happen, and they're ready. Most likely, though, this is just Coyote trying to play a prank on the new god in town in revenge for messing up his plan, and he's very creative when it comes to pranks, so it could be just about anything. Maybe he'll resurrect Lana in Sam's body. Maybe he'll pretend to be Sam and claim he isn't really dead. Who knows? |

I thought for a long time that she was suspicious, this one seals the deal. I just don't know if she's Zimmy, Loup, Coyote, or Lana.
I don't know if anybody else is fake, but if anybody is, she is.
I would love for Sam to be fake, because both Annie and Kat were involved in his death ("From A Certain Point of View" - Obi Wan). And there are predictions about Annie killing Loup, and Kat killing Zimmy.
If black-hair NPC is Zimmy, does Kat kill her? (somehow? I can only think of ridiculous "Clue" scenarios)

I will note that the black-haired girl acting cheerful and mischevious is not, in ITSELF, a sign that she isn't secretly Zimmy. After all, when Zimmy has pretended to be someone else in the past, she's shown some pretty extreme commitment to the bit - her own personality just doesn't factor in at all. Well, unless Gamma's involved. As usual, Gamma is her weak spot.
That being said, this NP's behavior wouldn't really make any sense even if she WAS who she really pretended to be, so...

In the last two panels, her feet don't appear to touch the ground.
I have no idea what the significance of that is, but it does seem very suspicious.
Edit: And her expression in the panel with the stars reminds me a lot of Jolly Elfberry, or whatever that name was...

F/Annie, extremely happy while helping her dad cook, was also arguably depicted as slightly levitating. In the previous panel she had similar diamonds too. Sidenote: not too often do we see joy in the comic. |

I wonder whether Annie is still too much of a slowpoke to use ether sight whenever something suspicious happens. Don't be suspicious, DOON'T be suspicious! At this moment she is everything suspicious. But I also like hatredman's suggestion that she's Gamma. It sort of makes sense to me, although I can't articulate why. An attitude so out of place that Gamma is the most likely candidate (from those we know may look like someone else, and discounting supposedly angry Coyote fragment)? |
