Please tell me this isn't Zimmy. This strikes me as the big drawback to all those earlier occasions where Tom had made the whole thing one of Zimmy's hallucinations; we're now wondering if this is really Kat rather than focusing on her interaction with the New People and their dealing with their first death. |

This strikes me as the big drawback to all those earlier occasions where Tom had made the whole thing one of Zimmy's hallucinations; we're now wondering if this is really Kat rather than focusing on her interaction with the New People and their dealing with their first death. At first I thought laaaa's post meant "Please tell me Sam isn't Zimmy". Because then Annie would have killed Zimmy - or gotten her killed. Of course, in that case the distortion should have stopped. |

I feel like everything is a little off this time thanks to Coyote's interference. The dark haired New Girl could be Zimmy, or it could be Coyote playing one of his usual tricks. Either way, I think the rules of the distortion are a little different this time around. |

Annie, starting to cringe: "No really, what?"

Also Annie: "Make It Stop!"
*the Distortion lifts, revealing that every NPC (and Kat) is either Loup, Zimmy, Coyote, or Lana.
**. Bonus points if the dancing NPCs are Coyote and Lana (duplicating himself for laughs), Kat is Zimmy, and Sam is Jerrick, still dead.

How about resetting and reinstallation?  Kat: all for turning him into some pipes say "aye" Kat 3:20 - All go to the same place. All came from the pipes and all return to the pipes.

(As usual, I'm not reading anyone's comments until after I post this.) Kat's kneeling down to touch Sam, and the dark-skinned New Person who's been traveling with him all this time says that they wanted to return his body, adding that it's the greatest gift Kat gave him and his only true possession. He goes on to say that it's his very being, but Kat replies that no, his being was his mind, which existed before this body and truly made him Sam. The black-haired mystery NP is visible here, looking on solemnly but not reacting in any obvious way to what's being said. Kat expresses her faith in Annie's ability to deal with the distortion and wants to have some sort of memorial for Sam, perhaps implying that she doesn't expect Annie and Renard to stay for the ceremony.
That would also imply that Kat won't be coming with Annie and Renard as they continue their journey and probably doesn't have any way to help them with it. I'm not sure what Kat could do – it appears that although she can communicate with her computer/fabrication system, it can't transport items intact, so no wonderful gadgets, unless they can be reassembled. Then again, perhaps I'm reading into it and Kat does intend to help or even come along, but they're doing the ceremony first.
So what will Annie and Renard do? Maybe they can both concentrate on the Carver house, or even on Tony himself, but if that works, why didn't Annie do that before? Or ... this has the feel of being near the end of the chapter, so perhaps something weird will happen and the distortion will change, or the mystery NP will turn out to be Coyote/Loup/Zimmy/Lana/etc., or I don't know, some other crazy surprise, and then, end of chapter. Or will we just see moving scenes of the memorial ceremony for Sam, and end of chapter? I guess we'll see.
