New artwork? I mean, the first few pages were certainly a bit ordinary, but they allowed us to see how Tom's artistic skills grew. Ah well, can't argue with the Director.

Might be referring to new cover art; maybe new art for the inside sides of the cover, too. Maybe even a frontispiece separate from the inside cover.

I'm curious how this "new artwork" is going to work, too. The original artwork could be viewed as wonky and outdated, but Tom's art evolves so drastically along GC's run that it would be impossible to have a consistent style matching the "new artwork" without redrawing almost every single page. I wonder if "new artwork" means that the Dark Horse run will include pages like this teaser image - extra bonus panels drawn more recently, mimicking the older style. Either way, I'm very excited to learn more about this new publishing deal!

I'd prefer "bonus pages" for the "new artwork" rather than "redrawn pages" as well, though at least I've got the original pages in the Archaia books; I've collected all of them.

Here's a little preview for the kind of "new artwork" I'm talking about! It's really just little fixes to things that I think are objectively bad. Sadly, a lot of that is reserved for Annie, but even then, I don't want to erase what she looked like, just bring her closer to what I thought I was doing at the time. The comic is still going to look the same, I'm just hoping the small changes will make the early chapters a little less off putting. I'll be posting more comparisons on Patreon and other places as we get closer to the new release!

That's a great compromise, I feel - keeps the essence of the older style and the evolution the comic underwent while fixing some of the more egregious inconsistencies. Looking forward to getting my hands on the new edition.

Fantastic! I have four of the Archaia volumes, but not the early ones, which are now apparently hard to find. This gives me the chance to collect those parts of the story too. Very much looking forward to this.

Aww, I love Football Annie and your old art style – it's not generic and it's very expressive and moody while also being silly – but I understand the urge to go back and tweak comic pages. Your compromise is a good compromise, Tom.

This is extremely exciting.
I fell off reading as I got older and had to do job stuff around 2013, but working to catch up now.
Looking forward to supporting through dark horse.

As is the limited edition signed hardcover! Will this be my second copy of Book 1 and my third of Book 2? Yes. Am I ordering it anyway? Hell yes.

That looks very nice, but to be honest I'd be more excited about an Archaia Vol. 9 release.

Does anyone know how you can pre-order in Europe? Or is it only for USA?

If I wanted, I could pre-order from local (German) Amazon. From the old ones, they have book 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, not sure what that tells me.
Means I wouldn't have to deal with customs (while the seller can handle things like import VAT for the EU, not all do)
(Not sure I should, though, I enjoy the comic, but... I already have too much stuff in my flat)
Edit: From the links on the dark horse blog page, a comic shop like 35km away might have ways to order from the publisher. The shop in the specified location has a different name, though. Their online presence was last updated back in 2020 during (partial) lockdown, the facebook page says they had to close last year. I guess Amazon really is the only option.

I guess Amazon really is the only option. Didn't think to try Amazon DE, it is on there. None of the other links have anything for Finland alas. I'm trying to avoid Amazon if I can but I'd like to replace my collection, especially with a better publisher since I know Tom didn't make anything from the old one. I couldn't bring my Gunnerkrigg books with me from the USA when I moved. Debating if I can justify the hard cover cost...

There are 3PL (3rd party logistics) places where if you have an account with them you can buy stuff online, in America for example, have it shipped to a domestic address, and they will then ship it overseas. Some of them even advertise themselves as alternatives to fulfillment by Amazon. The ones I know only have business or merchant accounts so they would be too expensive but I have reason to believe that there's some that will ship to a regular person at a residential address. Beware disreputable ones, though.

Probably will do Amazon germany, shipping is still expensive but not as much as from the USA 😂
