[...]Also not sure an etheric creature counts as an animal.[...] Lindsey did count, and she isn't even from Earth. Good point about Lindsey counting, not sure about her origins. She could be from another real world in the GCU, or from the ether as an "alien" being, or from the ether of a universe different from the GCU, a real world in another dimension, or something else. Paz can potentially speak to alien life forms, even intelligent ones... Is that because Paz subconsciously thinks of Lindsey as something animal-like or because Lindsey can use her own gift(s) to meet her halfway? Or is it because humans are speciesistic in general, so enough humans would classify her as an animal, therefore it just works? Paz should be able to speak monkey and ape even though they're pretty close to humans, but could Paz speak merman or lizard-people if she met some who weren't telepathic or otherwise ethereally gifted in the communication area, or are humanoids too close to human? ^questions that the comic will probably never answer

Lindsay needed a computer and speakers, though. But Bud was able to *speak* English (chapter 34, Faraway Morning).

Sure, but I'm talking hypothetically if there hadn't been any mechanical translation available and Lindsey didn't know English (though could learn) [edit] and they didn't have any telepathy or other etheric ability that'd make a difference [/edit]. Could Paz talk to someone roughly equivalent without external aid? I dunno, might be on a case-by-case basis (or at least species by species). If she can, could she then command or persuade such a person to fight on her behalf, even if the person has no other reason to do so and great danger to their life is involved? To make someone try to kill for her? Color me very skeptical.
