As we predicted Coyote couldn't see Kat in the ether without being close to her or knowing what he was looking for in advance or some sort of hint. ...And the disabled robots have turned into plants bearing... Tubers? Seeds? Maybe that's the result of the etheric tech in that mysterious chip. Perhaps the downed Toc looked something like this, when it first sprouted, assuming Ysengrin was telling the truth?

Two pages ago it looked like the new people were somehow related to the seed bismuth. I wondering which way this relation goes, it's not like Kat used pieces of buildings from the Court to make them.
But with the whole time loop thing, and now literal seeds, I'm starting to wonder if we didn't just witness the creation of the seed bismuth

Aha, that's what they are. My initial guess was rabbits.
So, Kat is affected by the Zimmydome.

I wouldn't put it past her, to be honest. She also had no problem with using a supernatural Ether-destroying soul-trapping weapon as part of her transfer tech.

CPU Salad: Your top dietary source for Silicon.
These would be CPUs that Diego's creations made, correct? Not Kat. At this stage, they haven't been "transferred" yet.

Against the background of the starlit ocean with the distant crags, one of the NP asks Annie whether she's experienced this before. Annie replies yes, a few times – though this exact thing isn't something she's experienced before! Annie correctly reasons that Coyote must have looked for Kat but found Zimmy instead. Renard remarks that he wouldn't have been able to see Kat in the Ether, but I don't know whether he's correct about that or not. He might be right that Coyote couldn't sense Kat as some sort of distant glow.
Then onto another matter, brought up by the other NP who approached Annie. Apparently Kat was still transporting robot CPUs out of the ruins to her workshop when the distortion hit, and it seems she's not doing that anymore. We see two other NP looking at the plants on the ground some distance away. He says that the plants are "all that remains" ... but what does he mean? All that remains on the ground? Or does he mean that the robot bodies Loup unearthed have been transformed into plants (quite possibly this)? Annie then moves aside some of the plants' leaves and sees what looks like what you might get if you turned a microchip into a bug.
One of the things I love about this story is that it just keeps getting weirder, but in ways that kind of make sense. The CPUs do in fact contain the robots' consciousness, the one part of them that could be considered alive. The New People aren't being turned into anything else, as far as we can tell, but Annie might want to check and see whether their bodies are still synthetic, if things that are kind-of-alive are being turned into things that are really-alive. The slight color gradients are appearing on this page as well, in the light brown hair of that NP in the first panel but also in Annie's hair and face, and here and there throughout the page, very subtly.
And what does it mean that Kat's stopped transporting CPUs? That is, is she outside the distortion and just getting no signal from inside anymore, or is she also inside the distortion, but her computer's turned into a ficus? Maybe a nice forsythia?

Color-wise this is a really cool chapter. I've never been more anxious to be in the Zimmyverse, though. Everything seems to be as it appears, and yet that makes me even more suspicious that Annie isn't Annie and Renard isn't the real Renard!
I just realized that the robot CPUs look like little bugs, and Kat's etheric (?) form is something like an insect queen. I think we'll be seeing bug queen Kat make an appearance again very soon...

If the exhumed robots turned into (living) plants, does that mean their CPUs are now organic? Maybe the transplant of the CPUs into synthetic brains is not a needed step now(?)

Dumb question - why is it assumed Coyote couldn't see Kat in the ether? Annie has seen her in the ether! Maybe only in her mechagoddess form, though I'm not sure we know that for sure. It seems like most have some form in the ether. Even if they lack abilities there, we still see them as... statues, more or less. Or maybe it's simpler than that, and he wouldn't see her at a distance because her powers aren't etheric in nature. Assuming they really aren't, of course. I guess it's true she wouldn't appear as a beacon or anything, but if she shows up I bet he is able to see her mecha version just fine. Also, Zimmy has previously interacted with Kat in a mindscape or something - not clear whether that was the ether or a version of Zimmyland or maybe the void where Coyote talked to Gamma.

Maybe I should have said that Coyote currently can't see Kat in the ether as anything but a normal human. Antimony and Paz know at least something about Kat's gift and her relationship with the robots but those things aren't something that Coyote would care about unless clued in, and even they can't see MechaGoddess Kat except in circumstances that assist doing so. Hypothetically, someone who was tech-savvy who was also etherically gifted could see something special about Kat if they knew how to look at her through the ether in the right way.

I'm fascinated by the appearance of the robot CPUs in Zimmyland. Are those seeds? Bugs? Either way, they look sort of alive. The plants covering them do too. It isn't clear to me whether this is all one thing - like maybe the CPUs are the fruit of the weird-looking grey plants with green veins? It looks like it's attached to the leaves but that may be just an artifact of the art for all I know. The other really interesting thing is that these are from robots - not golems, not New People, and as far as we know, not special robots like S13. Does this imply that the regular old bog-standard robots are alive in some sense? There is a sort of surface resemblance to the special green mezzanine chip that S13 had but it was strongly implied that that item was unusual and not present on other robots in general. It looks quite different from what is inside the NP also, which (as many have pointed out) resembles a Bismuth crystal more than a classic form factor CPU or memory chip. Theory: Maybe the robots are alive but low sentience? Plant-like maybe? We know they had little mind, as Kat gave them each an ocean, which greatly increased their mental capabilities and allowed them to evolve. This might mean that Kat didn't give them life but rather evolved them into a higher form of life.
Wackier theory:
Maybe we'll see what happens if the robot plants grow without Kat's help, here in Zimmyland. An alternate path, one that doesn't involve her "new contract".

Or maybe it's simpler than that, and he wouldn't see her at a distance because her powers aren't etheric in nature. Assuming they really aren't, of course. Answer 1: Renard meant Coyote couldn't see Kat glowing from a distance in the Ether, as he could with Zimmy or the star ocean. He didn't mean he couldn't see her in the Ether at all. Answer 2: Renard was wrong. Sometimes that happens. I'm not sure Renard is aware of Kat's machine goddess form, or if he is, I doubt he knows what it means, when it appears, or what it even is. You know – just like Annie, or us. I think we need to remember that although we've seen the mecha goddess multiple times, that's just us. Annie's only seen it on one occasion. Paz caught a glimpse of it. It's suggested that Zimmy sees it whenever she looks at Kat, but that may be because of some connection between Zimmy and Kat – for example, if Zimmy's right and Kat's going to kill her, their destinies are linked, so maybe that's why. But anyway, in my opinion we can't assume the characters know things other characters know. You're probably talking about chapter 38, where I'm pretty sure Kat is asleep and Zimmy's using the Ether to talk to her in her dreams. Kat doesn't wake up until the end, when Renard, Shadow, and Robot aren't there; it's possible they were never there. But at one point Zimmy said she was terrified of Kat, seeing her as the machine goddess, yet the rest of the time she doesn't act scared of Kat at all. I think we really don't know the nature of that entity yet (perhaps a possible future Kat who's completely integrated herself with her technology and travels into the past via the Norns to help her earlier self at certain pivotal moments? Or perhaps a remote avatar a possible future Kat will create and send into the past, like the bird but more sophisticated?). Maybe we eventually will.

Or perhaps a remote avatar a possible future Kat will create and send into the past, like the bird but more sophisticated?). Maybe we eventually will. Huh. I was, but I didn't think she was asleep. I just thought she was sitting there worrying and talking to herself (probably not out loud) when Zimmy arrived and talked to her. I took the bird on her head to just be one of the things Zimmy can see, that are there but not visible to mere mortals. Kind of a manifestation of Kat's talking to another part of herself. A more honest part, so probably a deeper layer of her mind.
Gamma saw the pigeon too. The others in the room were either sleeping (like Renard) or fell asleep, or were perhaps put to sleep. Kat was up though. For example, at one point Zimmy tells her to shut up and let her work. Also, they talked repeatedly.
Chapter 38 had a couple hints about the different powers Zimmy and Gamma have too. I suspect Gamma is the one that can walk the collective consciousness, or something like that, and Zimmy is the one that can change things. But who knows? Gamma is also the dampening rod for Zimmy's powers when they start to go nuts, but we know that from other parts of the story.
Here's a thought. Usually, when things are bad in Zimmyland, Zimmy and Gamma are separated. Sometimes, meeting up is the trigger for them calming down and everyone exiting. But this time, they were together when it started - physically touching even if I remember right. Annie and Renard were too, and they stuck together. Does this imply we may be about to see what happens when Zimmy and Gamma aren't separated in a Zimmy mindscape?
So many possibilities! I don't even know what to hope for in this chapter! I'm starting to wonder if this won't be a multi-chapter adventure!
