Similar vibes to that scene in Infinity War when the team nearly has Thanos bottled, and Quill reacts badly to an off the cuff remark.

Siddell: has it been four whole pages since I contrived some drama? That won't do.

Am I the only one reading Annie's response not as an intro to drama, but as her being confused what Jerroup is referring to? I never thought it was clear whether she actually reciprocated or even registered Jerrek's romantic interest in her.

I literally didn't think she even did.

Loup/Jerrek thoughtfully places foot in his mouth. Some people are still surprised.

Loup, buddy. I know you have Coyote's shapeshifting powers but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to shove your foot so far in your mouth you reach halfway to your stomach...

I never thought it was clear whether she actually reciprocated or even registered Jerrek's romantic interest in her. Annie is often confused about such things, but in this case her facial expression is pretty clearly angry/offended. (Also, even if she was originally clueless about Jerrek's overtures, Kat and Renard clued her in.)

I wonder if the upcoming conversation will eventually put a spotlight on the fact that Annie has never had a boyfriend or girlfriend.

Yeah, this page won me over to team Loup. He is just hilarious as Jerrek. He's about to give a "I really did like you, I never expected to fall in love. I hope I didn't hurt you by leading you on. Can we stay friends?" speech. The sincere look says it all, I think he really belives what he is saying and about to say. Hopefully the personality change is real and he doesn't go all demon dog when Annie brings him to reality.
Edit: The bait and switch would be a conversation about when he was pure Loup and he is talking about the diplomatic relationship between them and how it ended for the Forrest and the Court.

The comic has repeatedly implied that Annie's crush may be Eglamore, but nothing has been confirmed. I think Annie considered Ysengrin more of a mentor than anything else. While he was alive, she was affectionate with Ysengrin but never in a flirty/awkward way. In a way, Ysengrin took on a surrogate father/guidance role by training her to be the Forest Medium #workdad. Also, in the Dealing with Her chapter, this interaction between the Annies indicates this is still an active crush. Since Ysengrin has been dead for months at this point, I think it's safe to say Annie's crush is not Ysengrin.

*she pulls out the Coyote tooth and stabs him* I had a similar immediate thought: *puts Loup in laser jail* The comic has repeatedly implied that Annie's crush may be Eglamore, but nothing has been confirmed. I agree she's awkward/shitty/weird around him, but I'm not sure that necessarily implies a crush, given all of the other reasons she has to be awkward/shitty/weird around him. Can you imagine tho

I agree she's awkward/shitty/weird around him, but I'm not sure that necessarily implies a crush, given all of the other reasons she has to be awkward/shitty/weird around him. Can you imagine tho I think there's a possibility it could be someone else, however there are not many other named male candidates to pick from. Also, to a certain extent Annie does show signs of stunted social development stemming from her years growing up in the hospital and separated from her classmates when Anthony returned. It's not that unusual for adolescents' early crushes to directed towards teachers and other adults in their life. Kat and most of their classmates' middle school crushes on Eglamore is an in-universe example. It's just a very bad thing for adults to even think about entertaining for obvious reasons. Jimmy Jims has given no indication of being a creep or inappropriate with students, so I trust Tom not to go in a problematic direction with it. Personally, if it is Eglamore I think the story will have Annie move past it, dealing with some of her emotional baggage in the process. She will likely find someone much closer her own age to be awkward around and catch feelings for at some point. It definitely won't be Loup/Jerrick, especially after this page.

Ah, true. It would be kinda weird if it was any of the father figure surrogates, though. Even Jones might be less weird.

Ah, true. It would be kinda weird if it was any of the father figure surrogates, though. Even Jones might be less weird. Jones could qualify as a dark horse option. In Divine, the dream sequence witnessed by Zimmy indicates Annie may have an attraction to Jones, but again this is a single page with a lot of weird ether stuff going on. Other than that, Annie has not really acted weird/awkward/flustered around Jones. Going back to an earlier point, early adolescents do sometimes get crushes on mentor/authority figures, and Jones was one of Annie's first positive adult influences in her life. Also, Jones is canonically pretty dang attractive and we have no confirmation of Annie's orientation yet beyond the Annies' conversation about Smitty and [SECRET PERSON XXXXX DO NOT REVEAL].
Personally, I don't think there's enough evidence that Jones is Annie's crush, and in a narrative sense Jones is pretty clearly a stern but ultimately caring mentor figure. If Annie did harbor any feelings towards Jones, it's either mostly physical or she was allured by Jones' calm, hyper-rational behavior. At the time, Annie was still not the most emotionally well-rounded person in the world, see Fire Spike and... all of the Anthony Returns though Jeanne arc. I can see someone with an emotionally turbulent past and stunted social development would take a shine to someone who seems tough as nails and very well put together. This is just me spitballing, though.
I think another candidate could be Jack, but Annie didn't show hints of attraction to him when she met up with Jack and Jenny and... things did not go well for Zimmy reasons.

Having a crush on Jones means you want to be with mother earth and pure. The hyper blush means it's someone embarrassing. Like Janet Llanwellyn
