As anticipated, Paz tells what she saw on the Love Boat in the cloud. [edit] Handy link to what Antimony saw (end of ch. 59, beginning of ch. 60). [edit] Last panel: The giant Kat in the sky still looks sorta birdlike to me.

Tubes and spikes huh. Add some joints and Kat would make a great Bionicle.

If that's what Annie believes, I wonder if she ever talked to anyone about it. Huh...

As anticipated, Paz tells what she saw on the Love Boat in the cloud. Hence freeman’s edit. Heh. "Tubes and spikes" SO, Kat's becoming a bicycle? If a bicycle is all tubes and spikes, check it more carefully. Someone may have foisted one of those infamous Tricycles Of Steel on you. Man, "Tubes & Spikes" would be a great band name! I may be a bit too jaded, but it sounds too generic, just shy of cubist (“spheres and cylinders”). There’s a delicate balance of having the name sound ambiguous, but not too vague.

Wow, imagine coming up with a cool new cyber-gothy look and having your girlfriend not be supportive about it. Paz does not deserve Kat

To be fair to Annie, I actually do get "tubes and spikes" from that drawing. Go figure.

I have always thought that Kat's mecha form was something we'd only see in the ether. But right now, with her mind separated from her body and living inside her computer, directly controlling her toys, I have to wonder if maybe she isn't going to be creating a new body? I'm not sure she'd even find it that upsetting, except for the no-more-smoochies thing.
If she can't get back into her body easily, like if something goes wrong when they reset her computer, I could certainly seeing it going this way. Or at least I could see Kat creating a new body to move around in if re-inhabiting her meatware doesn't go smoothly. It could end up being temporary or permanent, depending on how the other goes.
The main reason I've always assumed MechaKat form was only found in the ether is that it really seems like it has wires and cables going off into the distance. Tubes? And this seems... inconvenient for a physical form. But we'll see.

Boy, can you imagine how Paz is feeling in panel 3? What she saw on the boat was scary, confusing, and apparently not noticed by anybody else (except the robots), including Kat. Every time she thought of it, she must have wondered if she was crazy. And now, finally, she's gathered up her courage in both hands and shared what she saw with someone else (someone with whom she hasn't always had the best relationship)... and the response--which could've been "What? That makes no sense"--is instead "Yes, I know what you're talking about." What a relief! I'm glad they're finally talking about this.

panel 1 (Paz' memory) is a lot more metal-angelic than the original: fairly distinct neck-head with blown back, coil/tube hair, and swept back, ribbed, bat-like "wings" sprouting from what would be the shoulder area, plus spiky ribs in the chest/body.....
It is worrisome that the arrow is probably still linked to Kat's computer - I dont want to think about the possibly weird/ugly/warped consequences of interactions between her mind and the arrow when in directly connected like that. Really hope she doesnt mediate the transfer back into her meat-ware *through* the bloody evil green thing.....

Meanwhile, Annie is not particularly worried and only mildly impressed. Between then-current weirdness and seeing “deep Ether” Coyote, it’s not really a big deal.

I love the (anti)symmetry between the first and last panels: part of the head, with prominent eye, and the mental image behind the head.

Tubes and spikes huh. Add some joints and Kat would make a great Bionicle. Bring Bionicles back. But yeah, honestly her "MechaGoddess" form is pretty evocative of those LEGO sets... I wonder if someone could make a cool fan-art piece with the right sets.

Discussing her worries about where Kat's work is taking her, Paz has just mentioned that she saw something once, and here she says what it was – yes, it was indeed the time from "The Torn Sea" when she caught a glimpse of the Machine Angel, redrawn here in more detail. Annie asks whether it looked like "tubes and spikes," and from that Paz infers that Annie saw the same thing. I guess Annie isn't very much of a visual thinker – she drew it like this, after all. We see a flashback to Annie's glimpse of the Machine Angel, which she didn't understand, but now she believes it to be either something inside Kat, or something she could become, or perhaps both, I suppose. Perhaps they'll finally compare notes on this, assuming something doesn't interrupt them. Of course, suppose they do. What do they do about it? Host an intervention where they take Kat camping in the Forest (oops, there might not be a Forest anymore) away from all technology for a while or, you know, forever? Ask Renard what he sees when he looks at Kat in the Ether ("wait, she doesn't just always look like that?")?

Really hope she doesnt mediate the transfer back into her meat-ware *through* the bloody evil green thing..... What makes you think that arrow's inherently evil? Renard and all the New People have been transferred through it already, and none of them Came Back Wrong. Heck, Jeanne's lover was bound by it for a century or two and he was still kind enough to grab Annie's hair clip for her. I don't think it corrupts the minds around it One Ring-style; it just happened to be designed and employed by awful people. Boy, can you imagine how Paz is feeling in panel 3? What she saw on the boat was scary, confusing, and apparently not noticed by anybody else (except the robots), including Kat. Every time she thought of it, she must have wondered if she was crazy. After which, conveniently, they went to the grave with her secrets. She's the Josef Mengele of research veterinarians! And while I'm sure Paz felt isolated, not talking to anybody about what she saw was entirely her choice. She could have asked Bobby, or any other robot, whether there was something special about Kat; after all, Bobby called Kat "angel" in front of her. She could also have asked Kat herself, because it's not like Kat was acting particularly sinister. The moment when she appeared as the Machine Angel was the exact moment when she aborted the ship-beast, told the Seraphs to fuck off, and embraced her girlfriend. Paz seems to be judging the Machine Angel as dangerous because a) it looks funky and b) it's connected to the robots. That's understandable given Court prejudices, but it does sort of exemplify why she's not really part of The Team. Of course, suppose they do. What do they do about it? Host an intervention where they take Kat camping in the Forest (oops, there might not be a Forest anymore) away from all technology for a while or, you know, forever? Annie's friends and mentors didn't cut her off from the Ether when she had psychic growing pains; they counseled her and trained her and helped her regain composure and control. Why not do the same for Kat? There's no reason to think she has any less potential for good than the other kids with etheric abilities. It'd be a little trickier to help Kat because there aren't really any other known technokinetics at the Court, but as long as Annie and Renard can communicate with the Machine Angel in some shared space, they should be able to advise her. As for the emotional side of things…maybe Lindsey? Plus Kat's mom?
