A thought: If Kat goes looking for the court's pride and joy, Omega, and tries to use it... might that not get a reaction from the court? Guess we're going to find out what they really know about her and her robots soon! Also, can Omega really find Zimmy when it couldn't find Loup? Assuming that was true, of course. I suspect that just hacking into the food-tracking system might be easier and provide better results. I bet Robot knows where Loup is. Most likely, or at least how to find him, but Kat shouldn't know that Robot knows.

how dare p=724 lie to us like this this is an outrage! Pretty sure tracking through the food is simply the most convenient way for mass surveillance (Jones only said "generally" after all). Also the Court tracks people with tracking devices in the food, right? I am sure that I remember that from the early days. p=724 implies that Zimmy is not tracked by the Court. Don't know what she eats, though... Spiders and pigeons? Though the statement that she is not being tracked does not necessarily mean she doesn't have the tracking devices inside her body. Tracking her might simply be deactivated in the software on the Court's server.

Since the school shut down I bet most are eating at home with their families, like the Annies, but I have to think those without family are probably using the cafeteria? We've seen Anja doing dishes as well, which sorta implies cooking.
We really haven't seen much of this (people eating, not just students). I'm just thinking that if the school mainly uses food for tracking, they probably encourage everyone to eat food they control. Could this mean that there is a lot less tracking going on, since the kids started eating at home?
I wouldn't be all that shocked to learn that Zimmy's diet is non-traditional, but Gamma probably eats normal food. I bet the cafeteria is open for the students, even of there are no classes.

It's certainly possible that the tracking network is working less well these days, not only due to the infrastructural damage, but also due to the loss of many observation robots, though I wouldn't bet on it. Even if many Court inhabitants cook their food themselves now, the ingredients they use must still come from somewhere, and those sources are presumably still controlled by the Court. Considering its technological achievements, tracker nanites that withstand cooking temperatures would certainly be within their capabilities... Unless they haven't switched over to just throwing the nanites into the water supply now.
Let's just say that with the court it's better to be on the safe side, and always assume they are watching you right now.

Whenever anything is “not done” (or “cannot be done”), the first question is: ☐ Directly? ☐ Indirectly? It's certainly possible that the tracking network is working less well these days, not only due to the infrastructural damage, but also due to the loss of many obseervation robots, though I wouldn't bet on it. Who does not boil water? More so when making tea, etc. But not all is cooked. Juices for example. Very few people who aren’t bakers anyway make their own bread, too. Also, plain nanites would have very paltry functionality, at least in terms of very limitated raw power available for emission of any sort. Given all the arcanotech in the Court, however, it may be something better. I mean, Locate Magic Transponder (UID:GKCSI-01392047289604) sounds much simpler and better suited for automation than Locate Ill-defined Object (“uhh, you know, that yellow thing…”). With that in mind, possible solutions could be something like tiny grains of sand with engraved patterns that involve very long UID and wrapped in something mostly-inert (like cellulose). Quite passive on their own, but remotely located as needed. Thus signal amplitude for purpose of range and blocking depends on the location devices (some of which may be very short-ranged, but portable), rather than transponder. Very resilient, as few treatments can kill this, and probably none that would leave the host substance edible (other than specific, of Shatter Magic Transponder (UID:GKCSI-01392047289604) sort). If so, an exploit for those in the know would attack everything with the constant part (that is not UID), of course.

What I'm most curious about here is, who is "we"? I'm sorta hoping we'll get to see Jenny again.
