He's a little confused, but he's got the spirit (of obsession)

Hmm, Loup seems to be fascinated by Lana as a New Person, rather than her as an individual. Is this him falling in love with the idea of being loved/worshipped, rather than Lana as an individual? Yet just before he was utterly stunned by Lana in some way. And went full «yay luv!» Why? My guess is: what fascinates him is not even she “as” a New Person, but “that” she is one. Loup now is fully convinced NP are indeed “real people” rather than mere “ walking, dead creatures”. Something this weird somehow happened. That’s rather shocking… But this creates a weird kinship. They both are Things That Should Not Be, in their own ways. Also, both are “newborn” entities with memories which aren’t really part of their strange new lives. And now that they exist, are willing to live on, to have their place in the world, and to pursue their desires. What she managed to show is that there are indeed creatures in so many ways like him, right here. That was what got Loup so dazed, most likely.

So, I just want to check if I need to get my mind out of the gutter: Am I alone in interpreting this as them having made love recently? I probably am jumping to conclusions but that's where my mind went. Didn't even occur to me once. Get your mind out of the gutter! This is Gunnerkrigg, that stuff doesn't happen

in robots and New People, the self arises directly from the body configuration as a functionality or attribute. I doubt this because of Robot. You know, the seraph-bot/immobile thing/windup mouse-bot/humaniform-bot/flesh-golem. Who appeared to maintain a consistent self-identity across all those different (some radically different) body configurations. Robot is different, and I have always thought the nature of the difference is that he was indeed once possessed by a spirit form and who knows what all in the Forest while he was growing the tree arm. Anyway, this morning I am wondering whether Loup is simply ham-acting. He is certainly capable of understanding how complex systems give rise to complex phenomena. And he's definitely motivated to beguile Lana in order to create an even more willing minion.

Maybe I'm a cynic but I think "Loup" is enraptured by the transformation of his own perception of reality and is puzzling over his inability to find a direct mechanical cause in Lana. He probably had enough self-awareness to know his existence as Ysengrin was solitary but not enough to recognize the opportunity cost.

For some reason these didn't change into viglinks for me, even though links here usually do.

You know I can't open these links :/ Can you? I tend to hover over the link and see what URL it points to; if it's a Gunnerkrigg page, I read the page number and go to that page in a different tab. If it's a YouTube video, I'll sometimes right-click, copy the URL, edit it in a text editor to replace %3D with = and so on, and then copy the result into a different tab. Then again, I'm on a laptop; I suppose all of those strategies might be harder on a phone. The link I posted was to page 1156 (Parley and Smitty), and then zbeeblebrox posted a link to page 2294 (Idra and Eglamore Jimmy-Jims).
