I wonder what Loup thought was going to happen? He had to know Annie wouldn't drop him or think less of him as a result of what was done. Maybe he was just hoping to make him really depressed? Crush his furry little ego? Good question. I dunno if Loup really had a end result in mind. Create drama through trauma, assuming that would strain the relationship? Maybe he thought Rey would blow up or breakdown when he lost his original body and lash out the way Ysengrin might respond. Many times in a story the villain does something egregiously confusing and distressing simply to draw attention away from a covert attack elsewhere. It could be argued that Loup is trying to protect "Jerrek" from scrutiny.

This is so sweet, it smells like a red flag. It has the same emotional impact of announcing he's going to retire and marry his high school sweetheart. Wild spec: Rey's about to die. Not a trope expert, but it seems to me this is a Fatal Family Photo instance.
