"I killed a man for a chance to get freak-ay with your mum who you resemble and also share a soul with, so as you can imagine I have no intention of ever leaving you. If anything my original body being destroyed makes that even more unlikely. Bonus!"

On the other hand, remaining in the plushie body means that Annie can make Renard leave anytime she wants, either by ordering him or simply by setting him on fire. She can also locate him at all times, and he can't steal anyone else's body. Basically he's chosen to keep wearing his ankle monitor indefinitely, which is a pretty responsible decision for a violent offender with an addiction to firehead girls.

The moral is that if you put off your long-term goals too long, god will literally set them on fire just to spite you.

The last stage of the alchemical Great Work does indeed represent the expansion of spirit into matter, to be sure. It is very tempting to take this literally and assume it refers to Renard inhabiting a new body suitable to his newly attained spiritual level (for various mystical reasons, it is appropriate to project it will be the form of Man). But because we must never jump to conclusions we have to recognise the many ways spirits of various types are over and over shown to be and become embodied. It's of course one of the major themes of the whole story.
Alchemically speaking I think we've arrived at the production of gold. The tale isn't over until it's over, though, and the ultimate end is the Philosopher's Stone. We may have attained or are about to attain several desired goals within the story, but the final end goal is Transfiguration.

Renard and Annie have things they want to say to each other. Annie is gracious and lets Renard go first – or perhaps she doesn't have much to say besides more words of consolation.
So as they walk under the light of the rising full moon (or, I don't know; maybe that's a streetlight, as I don't see craters or a fingerprint) Renard explains that he hasn't been in much of a hurry to return to his original body, possibly because he'd assumed it would always be there, but more likely because he wanted to stay with Annie.
Annie's expression here is not a happy one, despite the feelings Renard's expressing. Perhaps Annie is just still unhappy about what just happened. Or perhaps she's thinking of Renard's last relationship. It still doesn't seem that Renard has the same kind of feelings for Annie that he had for Surma; he's still something like family to Annie.

Perhaps Antimony is sorrowful on his behalf because Renard's devotion to her has now cost him dearly.

Incoming touching speech and fade? I dunno, feels like the chapter might almost be over, at the same time I also suspect another scene. Maybe they head home and we get a foreboding Kat interaction after the meeting? I guess they could also be headed to the meeting themselves or to a new people encampment, but it doesn't feel like that to me.

Two thoughts: 1. I wonder if this will be Renard confessing his love? Or at least explaining that it isn't the same as what he felt for Surma? I really do not feel like he's expecting a romantic relationship... 2. I wonder if Tony will be home? Like, if they took Kat and the other baseline humans and left, would he go or stay to be with her? If it hasn't happened yet, maybe we'll be treated to him losing it ( again) as he agonizes over whether to go without her or not. Originally he came back to the court just so they wouldn't throw her out of the program, but clearly her going along on the move is not an option any longer, if it ever really was.
