Not CG either. He would literally become a psychedelically-colored canine god. He's JUST THAT DEDICATED.
Christopher Walken as the headmaster.

Keisha Castle-Hughes...in a time warp to 2002, as Kat

Well, I say it should be traditionally animated rather than live-action or CG.
But if it must be live-action, then Christian Bale as Sir Eglamore.
Find a way to make Kate Rusby and Orbital collaborate on the soundtrack.

I wonder what the storyline in it would be. My guess would be taking some of the chief elements from at least the early chapters of the comic (Annie helping out Shadow2, making friends with Kat, encountering Reynardine, falling off the bridge, etc.) but weaving them together in a more unified story rather than a set of chapters connected to each other.
Of course, some of the more popular side characters (such as Zimmy and Gamma or Dr. Disaster) would either have to be left out, or at most given brief background cameos (the kind where the people who've read the webcomic can recognize them and get the reference, but those who haven't won't feel lost or bewildered) since the focus would have to be the immediate thread. A movie doesn't have the luxury of digressions that a webcomic does.

Well, this a good pretext to post this: Don't ask me who is the lady, since I don't really know and I would thank if someone identify her. I founded this in /co/ somewhere. Well, I say it should be traditionally animated rather than live-action or CG. I remember that Tom said in an interview that he would wanted to see GC as an animated movie (or in several ones) and that would be cool, but I consider that it could work very well as an animated series. Christian Bale? Nice choice.

Nah, not Deschanel. You need someone who can produce a more impassive expression. Cate Blanchett for Jones. Just CG her shorter like they did the Hobbits in LOTR.

Here's Jones, as far as I'm concerned: No she isn't based on her.

Bah, this is off-topic but whenever I read the title of this thread, I can't help but think of the Suzanne Vega song, "If you were in my movie." www.youtube.com/watch?v=QblZigWgdJ8

I'm not sure about Annie.. she looks too confident (and older!). But Jones is absolutely perfect. Terrific!

Don't forget to get Duchovony for the mulder scene! I would say Jim Carrey should voice coyote, but he might be a little too crazy. We will see how coyote turns out.

Think it would be better off as a series than a movie.
Wonder who Muut would be?
I think Jim Carry might be good as coyote as well.

I'd advise Christopher Lee for Ysengrim, and save James Earl Jones for Muut. Coyote I imagine as something like a slightly comical-sounding tenor. He just sounds goofy as an affectation, until he gets pissed (like when he knocked Ys into a wall), so Jim Carrey might work. He also can produce this utterly manic laugh, and such laughter would quite fit Coyote. Also, I suggest Hugh Laurie for Reynardine, who is all those things House is: Sarcastic, a bastard, and sometimes showing that soft mushy side. I'd have thought of Alan Rickman, but then realized Laurie would do a so much better job.

There has to be a place for clint eastwood in here somewhere.
I think Hugh Laurie is a bit to calm for Reynardine, but he might work.

I love Hugh Laurie and he's like Reynardine for some aspects (sooo rude, sooooooo sexy!) but I don't know.. I don't see him quite as energetic, vivid and "ferocious" as our favorite wolf would be.
For Coyote: I think Johnny Depp would be a more mysterious Coyote than Jim Carrey. A little less humoristic, maybe, but very very crazy!

The Headmaster, of course. would eastwood as the headmaster pull out a .44 magnum when ysengrin gets pissed?! I'd pay to see that.

Johhny Depp for Coyote is a genius idea. Nice! Michael Dorn (Worf of the awesome deep voice) could also make a good Ysengrim. I somehow forgot about him, but he can do a damn good deep menacing voice without coming off Darth Vader-ish. Hmm, someone more ferocious for Reynardine. I'm...hahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHA. What about the guy who played Jayne in Firefly? Would he fit Rey?

I don't think cast matters all that much, since it would be much better as an animated movie. You'd have to juggle around the sequence of events, have more than one plotline happening at once, but you could make a very good first movie in a series based on chapters 1-9. Maybe cut out chapter 2, it doesn't seem very important. Introduce Kat earlier, have her help build Robot. It could work.

I'm in agreement about it being animated. I'm thinking of people primarily along the lines of their voices, as those are most promient. And Ys, Coyote, and Rey would've been CG in a real movie anyways.

That's true. I think Hugh Laurie would be a good choice for Rey. I think both James Earl Jones and Chris Lee are too calm-sounding for Ysengrin. You'd need someone more wild-sounding, animalistic. I'm thinking Christian Bale doing his Batman voice, but not putting on an American accent. "SWEAR TO ME!"
