Girl! Do a quick ether-check! Really! Did years of living in Court teach you nothing? Sheesh! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Girl! Do a quick ether-check! Really! Did years of living in Court teach you nothing? Sheesh! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I assume she assumes if Renard doesn't see anything she wouldn't either. Or she did and didn't see anything. Loup seems to be able to mask his Etheric presence well.

After walking up to the pensive Annie and starting a conversation, which Annie probably didn't think was odd because we know she's noticed Jerrek may have a crush on her, Jerrek/Loup asks whether Annie is upset with him, because of protecting Lana. Annie's apparently noticed that Lana is a bit forward. Jerrek/Loup isn't following Renard's advice ("apologize, but admit nothing"). He says the boys were being "improper."
Annie questions him on "improper." This seems odd to me. Is she questioning his use of the specific word "improper," or is she questioning his judgment of them as improper, or is she questioning how he, as a New Person with limited experience with humans, let alone tree people, would know what was proper or improper behavior? Jerrek/Loup backs off and explains what he meant by it, which means that he probably assumed Annie was questioning his judgment. Perhaps she thinks he sounds old-fashioned, or at the very least presumptuous, to say what's proper or improper behavior for someone else. Loup, of course, is used to controlling what others do, or at least forcing them to do what he wants.
Annie ends this page by saying she knows Jerrek made an impression with Renard. I think Renard is also kind of old-fashioned and has an idea of what's proper vs. improper behavior of boys toward girls. That's probably something Loup (who is part Ysengrin) and Renard have in common. It doesn't look as if Annie realizes that Jerrek is Loup, but perhaps Renard will be the first to realize that Jerrek is Loup because his attitudes are more like those of an ancient forest god than of a robot consciousness in a newly-created body.

"-oop"? My assumption is Loup's name is pronounced "Lu", like the way the word loup (wolf) is pronounced in French.

I wonder if Rey knows that it's really you?
Chim chiminey, chim chiminey, chim chim charade
When the mask falls you'll meet a giggle-blade
Or maybe a Kat, and she'll smack ya too!

Really nice art today. Several new (and cute) Annie expressions.
I thought that was more important to say than dissecting the conversation. Maybe later.

I'm honestly not the biggest fan of the "soft light shading" that's going on these two last pages. So far the art in GC has always been no-shadow/hard-shadow. It feels like Tom's throwing in some ray tracing in a cell-shaded games, and it's weird. If this continues, it might grow on me, but so far, not a fan. Especially since the source of light are pretty direct spotlights. I'd expect this kind of lighting more from a bonfire or something.

I took it to be a combination of the floodlights and full moon, plus whatever Kat is doing. She may be creating bursts of artificial light as she shows off and creates things. So any surface facing Kat's demo area gets lit, brightly but flat, and perhaps not constantly (depending on how much of it is due to what Kat is creating vs. the constant light from the floods and the moon).
In short, I thought he did this on purpose to reflect what this setup would look like. For this scene, I thought it looked nice, and he doesn't really show environmental lighting like this usually, but art is a matter of taste... And maybe he was trying something new. Who knows?
You know, if Tom hadn't improved and evolved his art style over the years, we'd still be looking at this.

This is just one of those things that I hope stays more of a one-off kind of thing . Man, those first few chapters are always so rough when I read from the start again! Very stylish, but also... VERY stylish!

I think Renard is also kind of old-fashioned and has an idea of what's proper vs. improper behavior of boys toward girls. I don't think so. Renard is old, but not particularly old-fashioned or conservative. Agreed. I interpreted this as Renard being impressed or at least simpatico with Jerek. They are both pretty protective of girls. I also think Loup was mistaken about Renard being condescending towards him - he said what he meant. The Ysengrin part of him is prepped to assume Renard is messing with him, but in this case, it appears that Renard doesn't know it's HIM, so that's just not the case. Not disagreeing about their shared ideas about what is proper vs. improper, I'm just saying I don't think it's an age thing. More... gallantry?
I'm glad that wasn't the last straw for Loup's disguise - quite enjoying watching him running around as a NP.
