This is the alchemical step where the scammer shows the mark, who's been bankrolling the entire lead-into-gold operation, a bit of base metal covered in gold leaf as "evidence" that they are making progress and are able to make the lapis philosophorum.
That is to say, I expect to see that Coyote was right, and that the Court effort to create divine beings out of a group of privileged humans using the Ether, as an alchemist might create solar gold out of base matter using the Stone, is false and dishonest.

New chapter title and image! The chapter icon is white, punctuated by some thin black lines and some yellowish spots. The title image shows some of the Court buildings that have been partially buried with Forest matter. And the title is "Uncovering." That, of course, can mean at least two things: digging out after Loup's inundation of part of the Court with an ocean of liquid Forest, and learning hidden truths. What will be uncovered this chapter?
So much remains unknown. "Omega says ..." were two very important words from last chapter, so perhaps we'll find out more about the mysterious Omega. Is this the Omega Device, or is Omega a separate entity and is the device related to them in some way? What is the program that Aata is going to be kicked out of? Is it the same program that Annie was going to be kicked out of after graduation? Why is being kicked out of it bad? Where is the Court moving to, and why is it moving? Is Tony back to being mind-cagey around Annie, after he escaped from it for a moment? How is Kat going to dig out (uncover) all the buried robots? Will the Court find out about her android program in the process? Or will we learn that it's always known about it?

I wonder how much time will have passed between chapters. Are we going to pick up more or less right where we left off, as Annie is returning from her disastrous mission? Or will we go further into the aftermath, perhaps after she's begun helping the Forest refugees find a place to settle? Either way, it seems that the inundated part of the Court is going to take center stage...
Actually, it just occurs to me - IS Annie going to be finding the Forest refugees a place to settle? Or, like those two fairies from the bonus page, will most or all of them just go haring off on their own to wherever seems most interesting? Either way, woah boy is that going to cause problems.

So, anyone got an idea what could be depicted in the chapter icon? No clue, though I at first thought that it could be a map displaying vortex points and ley lines. I'm virtually certain it isn't, though. |
