There have been a couple of truly ominous comments made recently, by Shell mainly, though Aata said some things too.
1. "All the humans are going to leave the court"
Since we've never heard anything like this before, I have to think that most of those we care about don't count as human. Or maybe none of the kids are in on the plans? That seems likely also, but isn't mutually exclusive.
Annie is half fire elemental, so that one is obvious.
Kat is... nearly a goddess? But we don't know for sure how much the court knows about this, nor how much of it they caused. I've always suspected that she was meant to be a creation of the court all along, and may or may not be as free as she appears.
Juliette is human. Arthur is not. The fact that Juliette doesn't seem to know about this makes me suspect that the court knows about them and has intentionally kept her out of the loop. Why would you assume they aren't monitoring everything that goes on? Of course they are. She is probably considered a traitor really. Not invited.
The parents, like Tony and Don, will probably be invited along, and may or may not know about it. Hard to say about Anja. She is known to have magical powers, is that enough to disqualify you from being human?
The students in the two human houses are probably fine. The Foley students are not fine and will not be invited, even if they've helped to set it all up. I wouldn't be surprised to find their work to be part of Omega really. The Chester students are also not fine and will not be invited. It isn't clear whether the "human only" thing is really a technical rule, or more about whether one is willing to act human and avoid using the ether directly.
Anyway, it seems obvious that if Shell's statement is true, that most of those that we actually know and like will not be going. No info yet on what is intended to happen to them instead.
2. "Why would you need Coyote's power to do that? Because it's a huge source of ether. And if they can't get ahold of him, they're going to find an equivalent power somewhere else. No matter the cost."
Well. The biggest source of ether around that isn't Coyote is: the ether itself. It would really suck if they had a way to draw on THAT power directly, as it is what keeps the world turning! Messing with that could end the world, if I understand things correctly. Bad. Double plus ungood.
Renard has some power, but he only has the one power from Coyote, and generally is more of a trickster than a battery. I can't remember ever seeing him do anything all that powerful. Even when he took out Hettie, he did it with physical means. Honestly, I can't see where taking his power would do the court all that much good, unless he's sitting on a lot of power he hasn't shown. They still might do it out of spite - they really don't seem to like it when things aren't totally under their control.
Annie has some power, especially after the doubling, but it doesn't seem anywhere near what Coyote has. I mean, she can burn things, but we haven't seen her control reality in any way, and she had real trouble with Jean.
The Foley kids and the forest critters each have some power. They seem to have unique powers as individuals too. Hmmm.
Zimmy and Gamma have some power. Zimmy can sort of warp reality? Probably the closest we've seen to a Coyote-style ability from someone other than Coyote. But, she claims that even though she understands things, she can't DO things. Hard to say what that all means, or even if it will turn out to be true in the end. What she did for Annie seems far more controlled than I would have expected.
There are others who aren't really IN the court that have some measure of power, like the psychopomps for example, but it isn't obvious how the court could access them to steal their powers.
Prediction time! I can see only two ways for Shell's script to execute:
1. Suck power directly out of the ether, somehow.
2. Suck power from anywhere it is present in the court (that is, from everyone that has any).
Neither of these seems like it could possibly have a happy outcome. I hope I'm missing something here.
Oh, it'll probably be Omega doing the sucking, of course.
