Unless something is done quickly, the trapped robots will be dead within 300 years.

Ah, the Forest people going to be reunited with the Forest creatures.
Well many of the Court and Forest peoples have been reunited under one banner now it seems, it only took the death/insanity of the forest god, as well as the failure of the Court's attempts to create one.

Jobless Shell. With the current economic situation, maybe the gang could offer her a new post at CatCo. Or with her credentials, she could easily apply for a caretaker position, the Court is looking for hardworking janitors to join their cleaning team. Well many of the Court and Forest peoples have been reunited under one banner now it seems. Could it be that this was one of Coyote's objectives from the start?

The Incredible Hulk TV show theme played in my head, as Shell walked away. Perhaps now, she has a monster inside of her. When angered, she becomes red with white polka-dots. The Incredible Giant Padma. Or she's sad about Aata. It could go either way.

It would appear that they did indeed enlarge the tunnel, as Forest creatures are streaming out, greeted by the tree people, who I suppose know more about what the Forest creatures need, and where to find it right now, than anyone else currently available.
Then Shell emerges, greeted by no one. Not even Aata. She looks back at the tree people who are greeting the Forest creatures, with perhaps a bit of resentment in her eyes. And Annie watches her hike off alone.
But Annie's been greeted by both her father and now by Kat, who is of course happy that Annie's OK. Kat moves on to another topic: the robots who had been maintaining the shield. They were all buried. And they're the ones who still had their original CPUs in them – the Court replaced the CPUs of some robots, but those robots then left for other duties; they didn't stay there at the shield. So what Kat's talking about is all the robots who haven't been given an opportunity to get a new android body and brain. They're now buried, beneath the soil. It seems Arthur and Juliette are upset about that too, and of course they would be.
So I'm guessing that somebody's going to organize an effort to quietly search for buried robots – maybe Kat/Arthur/Juliette, maybe the new androids, maybe the Seraph Squad organized by Robot – to rescue at least their CPUs. Hoo boy, Robot's going to have a whole lot to evangelize about if Kat goes digging up and "resurrecting" robots who were buried.
And there's Renard. He hasn't said anything as far as we've seen since Annie's returned to the surface. I think there's a conversation due there, something about a tooth. Perhaps they're saving it until they're alone.

That cave opening is very mouth-like, right down to having a uvula of sorts. Perhaps a subtle suggestion that the forest is vomiting up its denizens?

Oh yeah...I guess besides the Chester students and the occasional Shadow Men patrol, the only Court residents that were close enough to be affected by the Forest wave would have been the shield robots themselves. They really just can't catch a break, huh! First brainwashed into standing motionless maintaining a magical shield, now buried under a full-on landscape of earth and wood...
That reminds me, how ARE the Chester students doing? Zimmy said they were still hanging around in the "red zones" close to the shield, I think, so wouldn't they have been buried as well? Of course, they're probably much more capable of dealing with this problem on their then the catatonic shield robots, so maybe I shouldn't be as worried as all that. It's still concerning, though!

I love the little hair curl Kat's got going to the side. Every day she looks more and more like her future Norn self.

The shield robots were overridden to make the shield, right? And we know that Arthur's CPU was taken out so Kat could make Arthur Android. Do we know what she replaced it with? Or if the other shield robots still have their original CPUs within? I remember the patrol robots had their CPUs replaced or modified, changing their eye color and making them more... robotic, for lack of a better term. But I don't think we were ever told whether it was an actual replacement or a reprogramming or what. Also, perhaps most importantly, I don't know whether Tom is into the technical side of computers. It may be that I'm WAY overthinking all of this. To veer back on topic, I interpreted Shell's look as a reaction to nobody being there to meet her. Everyone else had friends waiting. She is alone. I THINK Annie noticed this and was thinking about it, in panel 4, but even Ms. Compassionate wasn't about to neglect Kat and Daddy and Renard to run after and comfort a girl she's only really talked to once and doesn't really know. Especially one on Team Steal Coyote's Power.

Especially one on Team Steal Coyote's Power. We didn't see what, if anything, Kat replaced Arthur's CPU with ... what it looked like was that Kat somehow just downloaded his personality into his new brain, leaving his CPU there. Whether that left his old body still capable of generating a shield is unknown. The other shield robots were a different matter. When the Court wanted to make holes in the shield (to let the tree people through, for example), it took their CPUs out and replaced them with those big green add-on components, whereupon they left the shield and went about other Court-ordered business. The Court put those CPUs into boxes, and Kat then obtained those boxes and has been transferring those robots' personalities into new bodies. The ones still generating the shield were the ones that still had their CPUs. I wonder whether Annie's going to try to do something nice for Shell later.

The Court put those CPUs into boxes, and Kat then obtained those boxes and has been transferring those robots' personalities into new bodies. The ones still generating the shield were the ones that still had their CPUs. I wonder whether Annie's going to try to do something nice for Shell later. Aha! You are correct, I totally forgot we got to see that. This looks very much like a CPU swap. The CPUs being put in the carrying case are green, as we can see when Kat takes one out and puts it in her interface. So... CPUs are green. Also, it looks pretty clear that Juliette picked up the box of CPUs that were taken out of the shield robots and took them to Kat - re-reading the chapter that seems a bit more clear than I previously thought.
We never really got a good look at the replacement CPUs put in the shield robots that I could find. Best guess - also green, but with a new program burned in. No proof though - they could be different units entirely. From a hardware standpoint, I have to think these are really more like SOCs (System On a Chip) than CPUs, as it seems like the personality of a robot is on that chip, meaning it must have some sort of static or persistent memory within.
The modified CPUs in the Seraphs are a little different - green with a little blue add-on. Another view of S13's CPU, including little blue add-on. That little blue add-on is very interesting - personality module? It's pretty special if they need that instead of just a chip with a different program. Maybe extra memory and an extra processor or co-processor? The Seraphs are known to be different and quirky, right?
I looked for a picture of the chip inside Kat's birds but couldn't find one. Neither the montage where she built the tic-toc nor the scene where Ysengrin crushed one happens to show that. If it's shown here, which I'm not sure if, it's not only green but glowing. But really, i don't trust that image - it's part of Ysengrin's lie, AND doesn't match the remains of the bird that Ysengrin destroyed as we watched. Of course we have no info on whether her bird used the same kind of chips as the robots anyway, and it probably doesn't matter - I was just curious.
I couldn't find any picture at all of the chip inside the overridden robots that Kat warned Annie about. They are creepy, right? Red optical sensors, and the disturbing green patches on their heads make me think that whatever was done to them wasn't anywhere near as elegant as other robot modifications we've seen.
I can't remember any other scenes where we got to see the physical CPUs in detail or I'd link those as well. All the others I could find just show S13's chip. I don't think the color really matters, just curious about whether there are any different versions (other than the Seraph version with it's extra part).
BTW, if you look close at any of the scenes that show the top of one of those brain chips, you can see a little Bismuth marking. Bismuth Inside (tm)!

I'm sure it wasn't intended that way, but Kat saying "Arthur and Juliette are so upset" to me sounds as if Kat herself was not upset at all. Yes, they are creepy indeed. Kat called them "hardware overrides". Sounds to me like these things directly control a robot's actuators while overriding any signals coming from its "normal" brain, regardless of whether there's a CPU inside or not. That can't be an elegant solution at all. I also assume there's an SOC inside the green addons with which the robots are overridden. Jobless Shell. With the current economic situation, maybe the gang could offer her a new post at CatCo. Or with her credentials, she could easily apply for a caretaker position, the Court is looking for hardworking janitors to join their cleaning team. Nah, she'll go through a coding bootcamp for six weeks and then get a great job in IT.
