So I finally have a chance to post about this page, not having read any other comments until afterward ... when we last saw the Coyote bolt, he'd just regained his Coyoteness and ability to speak, as he zipped through the air. And now, everything seems to be very gray except for Coyote himself, taking form and seemingly leaving the energy bolt behind. The grayness may well indicate that time is effectively frozen around him. He seems to have the red patch on his back that indicates his strength, which he gave to Ysengrin just before being devoured, so this is likely not Coyote himself but a memory or fragment, just as with the goose bone.
Walking back toward the Forest, he passes by the Shadow Men's device, still alight with energy. He doesn't seem to be hurrying; after all, time is frozen.
He hums a little tune to himself, unconcerned, as he passes the Shadow Men, standing motionless with their energy wands. He chuckles to himself as he looks at one of them.
Finally he reaches the glade where Loup and Annie are. Loup remains frozen in the air, a plume of energy emerging from his forehead marking. Annie is likewise stuck in a surprised stance.
Speaking to Loup, Coyote says words I cannot interpret to mean anything other than that he's calling Loup a fool. He doesn't explain what grounds he's basing that on – perhaps because he let himself be distracted by the lake water. Perhaps because he was going about fixing the Forest the wrong way. Perhaps because he didn't do anything about the Shadow Men and their devices. Who knows? And who's he really talking to? Time's frozen, seemingly for Loup as well. Maybe just to himself? He may think there's nobody else worth talking to.
Or maybe not, because suddenly a full-color Annie addresses him. She's asking whether he's Coyote – probably because of that Coyote fragment that appeared with the goose bone. I'm guessing that's what we're dealing with here, but I could be wrong. Coyote's unpredictable. This might be the actual Coyote for all I know. Still, there's that red stripe. Of course, he might have taken his strength back from Loup. It's hard to see on this page whether Loup has the red stripe. Or perhaps he can give Loup the stripe while still having it himself, Because He Is Coyote. Perhaps there's no rule that says he can't do that. Anyway, the background's still gray, so has Coyote selectively started time for Annie, or is this conversation mental, or taking place in the Ether, or something of that sort? Is Coyote going to explain anything at all? What's he up to now?
After eating the goose bone, Loup didn't get the memories in it back until the Coyote fragment allowed him access to them. I'm guessing based on that that it's the same here. And Coyote said that after learning about the plan whose memory is stored in the lake water, Loup will agree that it's an excellent plan, and then he'll die. But he hasn't necessarily learned about the plan yet – the Coyote fragment decides when he gets the knowledge, and it doesn't seem that he's done that yet. But Loup isn't going to die yet – he hasn't agreed the plan is excellent; he hasn't even learned what it is yet. Will Coyote give Loup that knowledge? Will he instead give it to Annie, or to the Court, and allow them to decide when to tell Loup about it? Or will he do something else, like put the plan somewhere nobody can reach for now? Whatever he does, will he do it in stopped-time or in the Ether, so everyone has to take Annie's word for it?
