Wasn't expecting there to be Coyote personality there, I thought it was just the energy. But I'm not surprised, knowing Coyote, haha

They almost got... what? Now that he's through the barrier, he can sense that the Court has almost completed the Omega device? Or he's impressed that the Court almost got how to capture him?

Hmm, devil's advocate time: Could be a fakeout and the Court has a backup plan in place and ready to go if something like this happened. Edit: They almost got... what? Now that he's through the barrier, he can sense that the Court has almost completed the Omega device? Or he's impressed that the Court almost got how to capture him? The latter, I think. Edit again: Is that the shield the energy beam is running into in that last panel? It could be or it could just be him breaking free...

Hmm, devil's advocate time: Could be a fakeout and the Court has a backup plan in place and ready to go if something like this happened. It would be a little disappointing if the Court's 'Grand Plan To Deal With Loup' (patent pending) lasts.. a page and a half. Especially given that their plans have mostly worked so far. So yeah, hopefully they have a backup plan. I guess we'll see on Friday. Edit: yeah, maybe it's him breaking free? But he's saying that they almost got 'it' not 'me', so I wonder.

Half/half expecting the Court to go on: "Now, Coyote, you promised you would not set foot on the Court if not asking a reunion first, or you would leave. So, we ask you to leave."

Another thought: Maybe the "got it" part is a call back to this page, where Zimmy explains the ether's inscrutability. Perhaps Coyote is impressed that the Court, of all people, actually nearly grasped the 'it just does' nature of the ether for once? Edit: Half/half expecting the Court to go on: "Now, Coyote, you promised you would not set foot on the Court if not asking a reunion first, or you would leave. So, we ask you to leave." "Well see since I technically do not have feet at this moment..."

Is that the shield the energy beam is running into in that last panel? It could be or it could just be him breaking free... I think what should have continued to be a beam of unqualified etheric energy just Coyotified. The elements of personhood were (I think) not supposed to be drawn along with the energy but after a certain quantity went they were drawn along too (and I would be interested to know what the percentages are compared to the targets). As long as Coyote changes course before he reaches the extractor purifier he has escaped. I wonder if he wants to.

Kinda random thought, but it'll be kinda neat seeing Coyote in an environment different than Ether or the forest. Even something mundane like standing inside one of the Court's buildings is somehow exciting.
Maybe I just miss Coyote and want to see more of him though

/wildspec: No. The court is going to catch Coyote essence in a new human body.

Hmm, devil's advocate time: Could be a fakeout and the Court has a backup plan in place and ready to go if something like this happened. I expect so, narratively the Court needs a win I think, although I expect Coyote to be equally pleased whatever happens and to have half-planned all this from the beginning. /wildspec: No. The court is going to catch Coyote essence in a new human body. Yes! I speculated something like this on the Friday thread I think, but everything we've seen with the totems and placing animals into human bodies, plus Coyote's claim that the imagination of humanity is the most powerful etheric force, I think Coyote wants to experience being human himself, and is letting himself be captured and placed into a human. The storyline with Kat creating organic bodies for the robots feeds into this theme too. The theme of how much our bodies make us who we are is a strong one in this comic. The fact that Renard still holds the ability to switch bodies actively prevents Coyote from escaping in that case as well, although sets up future shenanigans if he ever chooses to give the ability back.

I think maybe the "it" in "almost got it" is the Coyote memory/essence stored in the lake water. Whatever the Shadow Men is doing originally had that memory/essence bound into the etheric energy they were draining from Loup/the lake water. But Coyote successfully broke free from it, and now their plans are going to have to change. Unless they planned for that happening as well.

looks like they just stripped all of coyote's powers out of Loup, turning him back into ysengrin and coyote. guessing they wanted to move all of coyote's powers to some battery or containment in the court but they didn't have enough power to maintain the beam, and keep the energy diffused enough to prevent it turning back into coyote.

Pretty sure he's about to snap back like a rubber-band. I wonder if this fragment is the one that reveals the existence of the Giggleblade to Loup. It's probably the only thing that can split him back into Coyote and Ys.

I can't imagine the Shadow Men didn't account for the shield when they designed their chain of relays.

Having sucked some etheric energy from Coyote's fragment, Loup, or both, the Shadow Men have been relaying it from one handheld device to another, back out of the forest. And today we see that the goal is indeed to relay it all the way back to the Readings Thing that they set down just outside the Forest. In the first frame we see the etheric energy zigzag its way from one agent to the next. Wouldn't it be better if they had been placed in a straight line? Of course, the artwork wouldn't have been as interesting if they had. It probably would have been harder to show what was going on as clearly.
We see the Readings Thing outside the Forest, the etheric bolt heading toward it. Then it's hit by the bolt, lighting it right up.
But it appears that there's even more to it. The device sends it onward, toward somewhere in the Court. Straight through the air it goes.
Then, though, with a ZZT, the bolt takes on the form of Coyote's head once again, and he says that "they almost got it!" First of all, the fact that it's just Coyote's head we see (and no part of Loup) suggests that it's Coyote's fragment they've drained. They didn't drain the etheric energy from the lake water while they had it in their labs? Perhaps they couldn't – it wouldn't release it until it had been filtered through Loup. Or perhaps there's some benefit to having filtered it through Loup first. Anyway, then there's the question of what Coyote means. Does he mean that they've almost gotten the Omega Device working? But wouldn't that be "they've almost got it"? More likely, what he's saying is that the Court almost got whatever it was they needed from this plan, but Coyote's gotten the better of them. I suppose we'll just have to see what surprise Coyote's got in store for the Shadow Men. What's going on in the Forest meanwhile, or has the flight of the Coyote bolt been more or less instantaneous?

Hahah they're just straight-up shooting Coyote directly into the Court.
Based on nothing besides Zimmy and Gamma kinda lookin like Coyote and Ysengrin I predict tragedy involving those two. And also it'd be funny if Coyote's like "aw yeah you guys almost figured out how to make souls!" and the Court is like "we what now" and then camera pans over to Kat with her army of Westworld hosts.

Kinda want Coyote's plan to be that he gets to be a human and then uses his new human powers to retroactive-causality Jones into existence. Just for funsies. Like he wants to do a Shadow Men v2 kinda thing but accidentally an immortal rock lady this time.

I dunno why I'm so focused on this page in particular guys but I feel like we could figure out the purpose of the thingy there if we focus on its parts hard enough. In particular if you go back to the start of the chapter they had two of that thing except one didn't have the big pointy bit. Also they said it was for readings.
Reckon the honey dipper looking dealios are "charged" in some way, similar to how Gamma and Annie attract ether but, uh, metal. And then the big machine with the antenna piece is for measuring some aspect of the Coyotebolt as it zoops (note it also has two honey dippers presumably for input/output). Last big machine then would perhaps be the storage receptacle, which maybe doesn't need a big antenna as it's not meant to transmit data.
I'd further posit that they doped the lake water in some way, like a radioactive tracer but for magic dog monsters. If I were trying to develop anti-coyote measures I'd sure wanna know if he could put himself in a little glass bottle, so it would be useful to know if the thing in the bottle was definitely Coyote or if that was just an incidental thing. A radioetheric(??) tracer might be able to tell you if the lake water was part of the Coyotebolt.
Furthermore the fact that boss shady dude looks like the idolized figurehead of an atheistic religion whose teachings involve freeing the human spirit from an endless cycle of rebirth via personal enlightenment feels like it might be pretty relevant to the overarching goal here.

Hahah they're just straight-up shooting Coyote directly into the Court. They have that nifty shield that protects them from Loup & Coyote and here they are sending a portion of Coyote's power through that shield on their own initiative. So far it doesn't seem like the brightest of plans. I kind of hope something happens to Atta to wipe that smug grin off his face before this is over. He's really come across as a jerk this chapter, at least to me.
