Suddenly I remember the anime Haibane Renmei and the "circle of sin". Zimmy might need some help there.

I wouldn't be too quick to assume that Renard has changed his opinion on Zimmy. Remember, he's the adult in the room. When he asks "Why does this Zimmy hate herself so?" I wouldn't at all assume that is a sign of a changed attitude towards Zimmy - he is just trying to understand what's going on and why, and instead of coming up with an elaborate plan (like a creature of the forest) or just walking around worrying about it (like a teenage girl), he just asks. He's an old fox that likes humans, and very much likes certain human females. Heck, when he calls Zimmy a demon, I wouldn't be surprised if he's basing that on experience! Maybe he's encountered other demons who have something in common with her. He told Annie why he disliked Zimmy so much but we've never learned how he knew her capabilities/issues to start with. As for Gamma saying "But what if it's true?", it isn't the first time we've heard something similar.

Jeez Gamma. You think she might deserve to not be happy? That seems like a detached way to talk about someone you love. Is Gamma getting into philosophy or sommin? Huh, everyone else here seems to have read that line as Gamma wondering if Zimmy deserves to be unhappy, which seems a bit harsh. I read it more as Gamma starting to question what the "bad thing" was, rather than thinking Zimmy deserves it. Until now she just took it as Zimmy's general over-exaggeration of everything negative, and is now wondering if Zimmy was telling the truth about the scale of whatever the bad thing was. Maybe her questioning what the "bad thing" was is why she isn't in Zimmingham this time. She is distancing herself more from Zimmy while she finds out more about what she wants herself, as well as more about Zimmy. I think the issue is that even with that as the basis of the question, Gamma seems to be tying it to the implication of some people not deserving happiness– If the terrible thing Zimmy did is true, then, what???– With the answer being, "...then, does she deserve happiness?" Again, I posit that this may not be OOC, but simply getting Rey to rethink his presumptions about Zimmy when it comes to labeling her a 'demon'; that she doesn't intend for these terrible things to happen, that her circumstances have been tragic and traumatic for her, and that even people who have done wrong, might still deserve happiness where they're trying to do better.

Drat. It's supposed to link to just a few pages back, here. I thought I was getting better at this, sorry.

I don’t think gamma is questioning her relationship with zimmy when she asks “what if it’s true?”
I think she’s just trying to see things from Zimmys perspective and ask the questions Zimmy would ask herself.
Not reading this like gamma is about to break things off with Zimmy like I think some people are
She wants Renard to understand zimmys headspace and perspective.
PS also hyped for Zimmy backstory
