I'm certain the tic-tocs have always existed, and Kat never "sends them back" in time. They are to Kat as the stars are to Coyote. Powered by belief, they exist before they were created, their patrons in this case being the robots. Thing is, it's implied more than once that the ability to interact with the ether this way is uniquely human. So either this simply isn't true and a machine mind can do it, or the new bodies Kat's cooking up are completely human (or at least close enough to count).

It might be worth hearing what Jones has to say about the tic-tocs. If they were around before the robots, they couldn't have been around too much earlier than that could they? I am just curious when was the first time she saw one?
I suppose it was probably when she first came to the court, if she has ever seen them at all. The robots were already past Gen1 when she arrived, if I have the timeline right. I don't think Mecha-god Kat would have any reason to have them exist prior to Diego.

It's also possible that Kat ends up understanding the specifics of time travel, but has yet to master them. Her calculations being not correct, the Tic-Toc(s) is not sent back to Year 7 as intended. Instead, the ornithonic has been living happily these past eight months in the year 1885.

The robots claim that the Tic-tocs have been around longer than the robots themselves. There are viable possibilities where that isn't literally true, but "the first Tic-Toc was during Anja's childhood" doesn't seem like one of them - the robots should easily be able to keep straight the difference between "twenty-five years ago" and "a couple hundred years ago". In other words, I don't think a Tic-toc was sent back to Anja's time. I think some were sent back to substantially earlier and were still around (or made more in the intervening years) in Anja's time and up to when Annie fell off the bridge. (It isn't clear at this point whether any functioning Tic-Tocs have been seen since then - up until now when Kat has made one.) I think philman follows the school of thought that the Tic-tocs were not hanging around the Court constantly, but rather were sent to/spawned in different specific points in time to carry out specific tasks.
Yes exactly, if they have been around for a very long time, but are so rarely seen, then it makes sense that they are only seen at specific occasions when they have a task to carry out or to observe. If they are indeed time travelling then they can just be sent to that point in time specifically without having to always be around. But they can have been sent back centuries, long before any of this existed Join the 'there were always tic-tocs' club I can already smell the cookies Anja's statement of having seen a Tic-toc while she was younger than Kat is now lends credibility to the theory that the Tic-toc will be sent to/spawned in a point in time much earlier than the first in-comic appeareance, probably earlier than the first robot's creation (as the robots seem to believe it is older than the Court). The Tic Tocs are older than the court. The Tic Tocs are the seed Bismuth? If the Tic Tocs are seed Bismuth, and the seed built the Court, and Kat made the Tic Tocs, it follows that Kat, indirectly, made the Court. A bit mind blowing, if true!

How could Anja forget the one Ys crushed? It seems she is being dodgy here - continuing her kinda fake response on the last page... trying to steer away from certain lines of thought? Could be. Could also be that the broken Tic-Toc didn't count for her. Maybe it doesn't count because it was not ticking? Or maybe because Tic-Tocs are something that's observed/discovered, and that time it was 'Grin who found it. Or this just sounds more cool to her than counting crushed fragments.

At a guess, this would just be someone marking down that all the lights on the bridge are working. Not the most engaging of jobs. He's on the Forest side though, clearly. Renard is coming out of bushes, of which there are none on the Court side of the bridge. And the greenery is too green. I think he had an Official Job, maybe there was more to interacting with the Forest than just the Medium and the Guardian.
