Reapparance of ominous Zimmy panel.
It makes more sense to me now that Kat and Tony could set aside their initial disagreements: in some ways they are kindred spirits. (still would have liked to have seen how they came to that place tho)

This is the part where Annie panics and handles things badly.

In the series adaptation this chapter will become the very low budget episode made mostly of flashbacks.
One big difference between Tony and Kat after going "Down that road" (Chapter title drop BTW) is that Tony clearly failed in his main goal (save Surma), while Kat has been quite successful. And while Tony started with that absolute goal, Kat is more into exploring the options, and pushing her aim further as she goes.

I think the flashback will remind Annies about Zimmy saying Kat is butting up against the 'unseen world' and it's "Grindin' her gears".

Man, with all the revelations this chapter, Annie has never even gotten around to telling Kat the reason she came to see her in the first place! Or about awkward-Idra and the Coyote juice!

I found the image of Zimmy popping up strangely startling. Zimmy is oddly "wise?" about these things. She did say, to keep an eye on Kat. Luckily, they have three pair, including Rey.

Ah, I see. This page is just an excuse to bring Mort back.
I am pleased.

Please can we one day have a panel referencing the last panel of today's page?
I like me some recursion.

Just so long as Zimmy isn't making an actual physical appearance in a little metaphysical hell box there, and is just the artist's representation of Annie's flashback.
Of course, if Kat turned around, she would see Annie staring awkwardly at herself, and that's kinda weird, too.

Yeah, but...isn't part of the reason why one failed and the other didn't, is Kat listening to and being helped by Annie, picking up all this etheric science stuff and making a breakthrough, while Tony went out and tried to absorb it, but was deceived by malicious spirits? Luckily, Kat also has her parents, but their attitude of letting her do what she wants could certainly backfire. I can see why the Annies feel a bit concerned.

And while Tony started with that absolute goal, Kat is more into exploring the options, and pushing her aim further as she goes. I think it's also hinting that Kat will suffer some loss and/or irreversible change, just like Tony did. Annie remembers her father's traumatic story and his tears; although Kat has a better support system and a more open personality than Tony, they are both driven in their desire to save their firehead girl and have subtly or unsubtly kept others from being with them in their anguish over it. Kat will stop at nothing to make everything alright for Annie(s); in this regard, she's just like Anthony. And unless there's some beneficent trick in the books, she's probably heading for some auto body horror of her own (though the "body" in this case may just be her current self/life) in the bid to achieve that. Gotta keep an eye on her.
