I'll wildly speculate that Zimmy has seen bullying before and enjoyed raining on Paz's parade last comic.

Great expressions, again. =) Speaking of which: why Annie on the right has this look? I read it as "Aww, just like old times." --Which immediately made me think, "You know your life is pretty crazy when hanging out with Zimmy and Gamma feels like a return to normalcy."

I wonder what Gamma needed to be safe from when she and Zimmy met. What makes you think she needed to be safe from something back then?
I'm guessing this flashback, from when Zimmy and Gamma were invited to the Court.

As to what Gamma needed to be "safe" from, allow me to point out that these were 2 homeless kids living alone on the streets of Birmingham, and only one of them spoke English. That's dangerous enough, frankly, even disregarding the endless stream of literal nightmare monsters that constantly plague them. Zimmy is the type to refuse anyone who seems to be offering her stuff like free food and shelter (being constantly persecuted against by everyone, including your own head, will do that to a person), but Gamma's safety is another matter. Plus, Gamma needs a place to sleep, while Zimmy doesn't.

Right, it probably was this page. Didn't find it because of the creative order of pages in this chapter.
Was it said anywhere that they were both homeless, though? Gamma does not look like someone living on the streets to me.

That's...hm. Good question.
I don't really think there's anything incongruous about Gamma's appearance in the flashback in that chapter, but anyway it was kinda early in the comic, back when Tom's art style hadn't evolved much. So that might explain it, I don't know. Regardless, I always assumed they were homeless before they came to the Court, and I'll go on assuming that until there's conclusive evidence otherwise.

The libraries were because they help Zimmy calm down a little (maybe books are able to store a certain amount of Ether?). Notice how the two of them seem to be there so Gamma can sleep when we first meet them. I concur that Zimmy had most likely been living on the streets for most of her life when she met Gamma...and for leaving everything behind to stick with Zimmy forever, Gamma's old life probably wasn't that hot either.

I wonder what Gamma needed to be safe from when she and Zimmy met. What makes you think she needed to be safe from something back then? In 'Dobranoc, Gamma', Court spooks say, "Miss Czarnecki can come too" and "She will be safe there". I have always wondered, safe from what? EDIT: sorry, posted when I hadn't seen the thread above. I think everybody's asking the questions I was asking so yeah that's exactly what I meant
