What mythological characters and ideas interest you most... and why?

Any, really. I find all mythologies interesting in differing ways.

I know a lot about Mediterranean and N Europen mythos, I'm quite weak beyond that...

Norse mythology! I like how the Gods were more like.. Super-people than actual divinities. It better connected them to the people doing the worshiping. Also, I feel like some of the stories are much more creative than Greek or Roman tales. Plus, who can deny the awesomeness of Odin? Come on. The guy went through a LOT just to get SMART. He is like the mega-powerful-ultrastrong-nerd of Scandinavia.
Also, Japanese mythology is incredibly interesting. They are masters at creeping people out.

I did Classical studies last year, and I really enjoyed learning about Greek and Roman mythology. I assume I would like most mythology, really, I just don't know much about any mythology that isn't either Greek, Roman, or Maori.

I'm going to side with Tom, as I too find all mythology has it's own points of interest. I wouldn't classify the Norse gods as "Super-people", however, but instead something more along the lines of Giant Whiny Nihilists Who Mess Up A Lot. A mouthful, I know, but in my defense I point out that Thor got so mad at a dwarf (Litr) who crossed his path at Baldur's funeral that he kicked the dwarf into the fire, where he promptly burnt to death. And don't get me started on Ragna"Everyone Dies"rok.

I didn't mean super people like super heroes. The Norse gods were like regular people, but stronger, older, prettier, etc. Super. So, of course, like anyone with high natural physical abilities, they thought highly of themselves and made themselves Gods. However, they weren't necessarily divine because none of them were omnipotent or omniscient, and they all had human weaknesses and imperfections. Thus, super people. The above average, if you will.
And yeah, everyone dies, but then the lucky ones are reborn. I remember reading somewhere that Ragnarok might have actually been the Battle for Troy. Crazy stuff.

I was never too fond of Greek and Roman mythology. I much prefer Norse and Native American mythology. Some African mythology is also kinda cool. Oh, and definitely Persian myths. Those rock.

I dig Sumerian and Mesopotamian mythology, simply because they're so alien to modern cultures, yet are the root of a lot of the better known myths.
