What is a safe website for downloading fonts on? And once you've downloaded the font, how do you actually use it? If you're after the Ale and Wenches font used in the comic, I've seen two links on the forums here: www.blambot.com/font_aleandwenches.shtml and www.dafont.com/ale-and-wenches.font. Can't remember which one I used, but I haven't had any problems. I'm not sure if you're asking about how to install a font, but if you are, I can only speak to recent versions of Windows: Double-click the font to open the preview window and then click Install. (I think older versions of Windows may have required you to go through Control Panel > Fonts. I don't know anything about Mac.) Once you've installed the font, it should be available in the font list of your favorite image editor. If you're asking about how to make Ale and Wenches text look Gunnerkrigg-like, several people have given tips about optimal font size & color in the Opportunity thread. I currently use 8-point bold--it's not perfect, but it's closer than anything else. (Maybe 8.5-point would be a better match. MS Paint doesn't allow fractional font sizes.) When I'm feeling lazy, I just use black; when I feel like putting the effort in, I use a dark gray, RGB(37, 35, 38) or hex #252326 (that's a bit arbitrary--I'm sure #222222 would do just as well). |

Well, that's interesting and even a little scary: I recognized the third edit as an angry rant taken straight from this forum here, but looked it up and found it was from a discussion thread of "Faraway Morning" - long before I ever set digital foot into this forum. o.O |
