I guess the court isn't as incompetent/lazy as I thought. Still, I wonder how long this thing can hold out if Ysyote tries to destroy it?

I guess the court isn't as incompetent/lazy as I thought. Still, I wonder how long this thing can hold out if Ysyote tries to destroy it? The scene reminds me of an episode of an old animated series from the 90's called "Gargoyles". In one episode, Oberon, the ruler of the "Third Race" (essentially, what "Gunnerkrigg Court" would call "etheric beings" - Coyote, incidentally, was one of them, but with a different look and characterization from the Coyote we know) was attacking a skyscraper protected by a powerful force field - swelling up to giant size and pounding on it with his fists, with the generators starting to strain under the force of his attacks. Despite the toll he was taking on the generators, the characters within had the hope that Oberon was gradually wearing himself out by the assault (shown even in his growing physically smaller) and looked for ways to wear him down further, like attacking him with iron flying robots (iron because of the traditional weakness of magical beings against that element).

Time to go Mega - Spang, Anja! No good call goes uncookie'd. Thanks *Ahem* It was Spang, not Sprang, Ysote. Please, do your research.

My response to this page: the word "whoa" repeated six or seven times with varying inflections. But also: " Hey!! No force fields!"

welcome to the forum, quinnr! yep, I suggested E1= ether station 1 yesterday [1976], but thought then it would be to collect ether to drain Coysengrin's power. Your idea seems more likely now... you would need a lot of ether power for a Court-wide Sprang shield!

I have lurked after every comic update for approximately years now so I figured it was about time to just make an account.

*bridge shakes, Anja looks at display at the Conn station* "Shields holding at eighty percent, captain!" Lock phasers on target, mister Pyradonis. The scene reminds me of an episode of an old animated series from the 90's called "Gargoyles". That episode/story arc gave me one of my favorite quotes: "Energy is energy, whether generated by science or sorcery." I loved the implication that neither science nor magic is inherently superior, and could thus fight on equal terms.

Anja? Or James? Or perhaps Parley going to E1 was part of the activation of a court-wide protective bubble? Ooooh, I wonder if that rune he drew was a connector to the etheric computer, asking for a barrier to squash the flames? What for? He has remote control for this. Well, Eglamore said E1. Ether 1? All power to purple bubble?

That was my thought too. I'm going to make a call right now, that Coyote arranged this whole thing to teach Ysengrin that the humans are a lot stronger than he thinks they are. I'm also predicting that somehow, Coyote will separate from Ys at the end of this battle and each will become "himself" once again, with Ys having learned his lesson. And since Ys respects strength above all else, he'll have learned some respect for the humans.

I can't help thinking, though, that the Court's response will be, looking at all the damage Ysengrin caused, "Couldn't Coyote have found a less expensive way to teach him that lesson?" (I assume that Coyote isn't going to bother snapping whatever he's got in the place of fingers and restore everything that Ysengrin destroyed.)

But where would be the fun in that? Ahahahaha!"(For comparison)Not to mention that this episode may also be intended to teach the humans that Ysengrin and Coyote deserve more respect, too.

What for? He has remote control for this. Maybe he's got a tattoo softlink to the anti-possession program specifically, not any barrier generation functions? The first time both James and Donald created identical shield disks. In Chapter 37 Donald made a door using that thing. Anja mentioned the users being tattooed together and there's no reason to assume they have different specialized subsets, just admin/users.

Way to go Anja. Now back to your regularly scheduled doomsaying: What's this kind of effort costing her? Or is it the computer doing it? Anja? Or James? Or perhaps Parley going to E1 was part of the activation of a court-wide protective bubble? That's Anja's magic in any case, through the Donlans' computer or otherwise. Eglamore can't do that himself I don't know why, but I'm finding this chapter fairly boring. It should be the most exciting so far. Maybe just because I don't believe everyone's going to die, so this supposedly high stakes drama feels pretty low stakes. I don't even believe Coyote's dead, but I could be wrong.

Eglamore can't do that himself Eggs can "rune up" a smaller version with his magic purple crayon - he used it to snuff out Annie's fire on the bridge when she ran away into the forest: www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=808tho he probably can't make one city-wide...Its not clear he can tap into the Donlan's computer.

Not quite as powerful as Coyote was? *Would* Coyote have been able to get through such a force field? We still don't know what Coyotes powers Y has, outside of his "strength". Ironically, Coyote's "strength" may not have been his strongest power. As far as we know, Coyote could have suddenly remembered he was inside the force field the whole time. Among other things. *Coyote stands in front of the Court with the force field distant in the background*Coyote: "How do they expect such a force field to hold back me?" *Reached over his shoulder, grabs the prospectively small force field, and places it in his palm.*Coyote: "It's just so ridiculously small. Hehehe!" *Throws force field away, and trots into the Court.*Or he just lifts the whole Court, including the force field, up, and uses it as a snow globe. So that's what those ether generators were for... Either that, or Anja has some serious etheric Spang muscles.... Maybe she has overclocked the processor...
