Kat is an etheric gamebreaker.
Looking forward to seeing how Annie's lock picks manifest in etheric vision.

Even better, from a picking point of view. Although... doesn't Rey have the picks? It's the ether - she can just manifest new ones. Can she, though? We've never seen her manifest anything but fire (if I recall correctly). The main ether thing she's sort of proficient with ist moving stuff around. She has already realized that some part of the maze are movable, now she could use Kat's guidance to solve the lock puzzle.

This could be the most difficult perspective based puzzle of all time, so that's good at least.

Just noticed something; in Annie's view of the ether, her hair ends in fire. In Kat'a view, it's just plain, normal red. So Kat view sees through the etheric self-image changing of creatures (like Kat).

So more pages in Kat's bore-o-vision? Yay.
Though seriously, if the intention is to cut back to Annie's view in the ether this page is probably necessary to explain what the task at hand really is, and to ground the scene in a sense of reality.

I don't think that's a normal lock Kat...

I like that, even though Annie seems to accept that's Kat, she's still terrified.

Oh man, if Kat guides Annie's hands to help her pick the lock, we gotta see that insanity from Annie's perspective

... Tom, no, don't - don't make a comment like that. I think this remark by Tom deserves to be over-analyzed to death! My first impression was that Mort would allude this lock to have something to do with bringing the green guy into the ether. Either it is preventing that, or Annie can just do her thing regardless of it.

We see Mort again in the flashback frame. That's all it's referring to.

This is exactly why some players think every character should put some skill points in lock picking*. There always comes a time when the party's rogue and/or a knock spell are unavailable. Seriously though, I believe fish is right, it looks like Kat will have to guide Annie. The trick will be effectively communicating even though they see things quite differently. I like that, even though Annie seems to accept that's Kat, she's still terrified. Annie was already losing it before the HR Giger nightmare appeared. She didn't know what to do and it was dawning on her that she was trapped. When they are finally free and Annie just sees Kat as Kat, Annie may assume the Mecha Angel was just a hallucination generated by her fear and the arrow. * Preferably by starting as rogue and then switching to the primary class with the second character level (if allowed by multi-class rules).

I like the way Annie's eyes are drawn in this and the previous page. It looks as if she's looking straight through Kat at something in the distance. Wich makes perfect sense, because that's what she's doing from her perspective. Does anyone else see this, or am I imagining things? Speaking of eyes, Jelly Jellybean, I never noticed your avatar was a .gif and it almost scared me blinking in the corner of my eyes somewhere.

"It's just a lock, you should be able to open this easy!" I don't think that's a normal lock Kat... She had a retinal scanner on her diary growing up. Annie was already losing it before the HR Giger nightmare appeared. Between Zimmy and Kat's Mechangel form, there seems to be a good deal of influence from the sweet Swiss Surrealist. I wonder if Tom's ever mentioned it. I agree with others. Kat's probably going to have to guide her by the hand to the lock. Annie's expressions during this should be "interesting".

One other possibility is that, since Annie is inside the lock mechanism, Kat will pick the lock but will need input from Annie so she doesn't crush her in the mechanisms.

I kind of expect the help to go the other way around - Annie knows how to pick locks, and doesn't have a view of the lock in question from the outside, but she CAN relay what happens inside.
Kat doesn't know how to pick locks (otherwise she would have said that she could do it easily, instead of Annie). So Annie's going to have to guide Kat on both how locks are picked in general, and what effect she is having on the ethervision-view of the lock/prison as she works.
A split-screen comic showing the two views side by side as the action unfolds would be awesome.
ETA: Also, it just occurred to me that Annie is not shown manacled, so perhaps she is not actually trapped by the device

Its not very often we get both sides of what its like to have an eldritch abomination around.
Like, within the context of the ether, that's basically what Kat seems to be. An unfathomable being that completely breaks all the rules, while simultaneously not really seeing what the big deal is. And we actually get the "what's the big deal?" perspective, on top of the usual one.
Let's just hope Kat doesn't casually cause the destruction of anyone or anything. That's the only box she hasn't ticked yet.

Kat's mecha-angel form might include bits that work fine as lock-picks. She does look kinda pointy.

I kind of expect the help to go the other way around - Annie knows how to pick locks, and doesn't have a view of the lock in question from the outside, but she CAN relay what happens inside. Someone earlier said that Kat might view the ether that way because she's very powerful in it. My speculation is it's the other way round. Kat's no-nonsense view of the ether allows her to swim past all the eldritch architecture and similar distractions and see things as they truly are. And she can act on that knowledge.
I don't think Annie is really inside the lock mechanism. I think she is failing to see the lock at all. Remember in the realm of the dead, when she saw a huge library full of books. For Kat there was only the one book, the one they needed. To her it was a small room, and the guy who loomed in the darkness was obvious. Kat is just immune to the illusions the ether is filled with, she sees the true nature of things, she doesn't get distracted. That's why she doesn't see the labyrinth. It's just there for shows.
