Annie totally looks like some kinda christmas elf at this angle. And in this lighting. Somebody shop a santa hat on her!
I feel again a little hopeful in my expectation of seeing some kind of etheric... thing of great complexity. It is probably there. Inside the arrow. And we are going to see it now, with Annie getting sucked in.

Huh, dunno what the spring-like structure is but the one on the immediate right of Annie looks like a warped scalpel blade, (a 10A to be precise) and the bits on the other side look a bit like bones... Wait, I'm sure I've seen imagery like this before...

For Annie it is like falling down one rabbit hole after another.

For some reason, I thought of Alice going down the rabbit hole... that or a drain.
Alice: "How long is forever?" White Rabbit: "Sometimes, just one second."

This gives me a vibe that Jeanne might become free... but Annie becomes new Jeanne.
Just a lil' vibe.

Somehow this reminds me of Sprited Away when Chihiro removes the anchor from the depths of that river spirit. Who knows what kind of stuff comes out of there

insert mental sound effect here. (mine's a bit like a ghost being sucked into a portable trap.) This gives me a vibe that Jeanne might become free... but Annie becomes new Jeanne. Just a lil' vibe. Of course, what held Jeanne, and/or her beau, might not hold someone as aetherically adept as Fire-Hair Girl. (Especially since she has help on the outside.)

"I got this little box to put the arrow in." "Ok I will just go get it" ....
Meh. Annie always operates with no real plan, no information and with the certainty everything will work out. This time though she has five? six? other people she drew in. She is no longer just herself against sudden oblivion. Within the framework of the story, the universe of the story, with Tom pulling the strings it will probably work out ok in the end. Unless he goes George Martin on us.
The art is amazing. Tom's use of colour is brilliant. I will be happy to add this book to my collection. Now get on with it!!!

This is fiiiiiiinnnneeeeeee...! Also those green lines look like the various parts of a swiss army knife. The corkscrew part rather gives it away, but it also reminded me of the lockpicks inside Reynardine

I wonder if Annie will meet Jeanne's dead boyfran on the other of the arrow-hole? Good idea. Possibly, she must lead him to rest before Jeanne is free? (Ideally, both could be reunited)

Bunch of Teenagers Pursue a Half-Cocked Plan and Get In Over Their Heads is a well-visited trope, though, so I'm not surprised it's happening here, too. I just hope Tom gives us some real repercussions from whatever is happening now, and given his past writing, I expect he will. Hopefully it won't involve major character deaths, as I don't think that's necessarily going to lead to the best storytelling. Unintended consequences for the relationship between Forest and Court that Annie and the gang will have to deal with, sure. Possibly a heroic Annie-rescue when she gets trapped in the green light, but we'll see. On a related note, I wonder how much Annie remembers of this conversation, and whether that gave her pause about taking her ether self in proximity to the arrow....

She is no longer just herself against sudden oblivion. Within the framework of the story, the universe of the story, with Tom pulling the strings it will probably work out ok in the end. Unless he goes George Martin on us. Sure, this time around Annie has surrounded herself with a capable crew, but in essence this situation isn't much different from that one time she tried to sneak a peek at Jeanne through the blinker stone. Of course she isn't bound to the stone this time but i suspect Diego's binding spell will do the job just fine. And none of the others could really help her out here. Kat, Andrew and Robot can't enter the ether. We don't really know yet if Parley can do that without physical contact to Annie like last time, and anyways, she's going to be busy with Jeanne. Red and Blue could swoop down there once they aren't needed on shore anymore, but what are they going to do about Annie being trapped? (Granted, wer haven't really seen if Red has any special etheric skills.) Of course I'm sure everything's going to work out fine, at least to some degree. Some possible solutions: Kat, after noticing that Annie's taking way to long, will activate a device which forcefully neutralises the arrows etheric signal, giving Annie a way out. This would not only be a "god from the machine" (deus ex machina) but also a "machine from god" (can't be bothered to look up proper Latin grammar right now). Maybe Rey is also down here, hiding out of sight in the boat. A demigod should be able to do something. Though I'm not sure why he would be hiding at all. But if he's not here, I wonder why he's not involved. He was in on the secret since at least S13. Maybe he stayed behind as a lifeline if anything should go wrong? What could also very well happen is Annie managing to work her way or of this on her own. which brings me to the next set of darts I am throwing at the wall: what lies beyond the green veil? It will most certainly be an etheric image of Green Dude but will it be 1) just him in a black or white void of oblivion? 2) Him being painfully imprisoned, something Diego came up with as revenge for Jeanne's feelings? 3) Him being trapped in a blissful illusion of a perfectly happy life with Jeanne, similar to what Blue is doing to Jeanne right now? Maybe a fraction of Jeanne's essence (I hesitate to call it soul) is even trapped there with him. Or is it 4) none of the above? With my track record - and the fact that I haven't covered nearly enough possibilities to raise my chances - it's most likely going to be 4), haha, hah... *sigh*

Sure, this time around Annie has surrounded herself with a capable crew, but in essence this situation isn't much different from that one time she tried to sneak a peek at Jeanne through the blinker stone. I think you are both being too hard on her. This isn't "no real plan, just with a bigger crew". Annie has been poking at this problem since Volume 1, drawing in more people and learning bits and pieces where she can. It's been a slow, gradual process. What's happening now is quite possibly the most planned thing she has done, and it's not just because the bar has been set low. Let's recap: 1. She discovers the ghost exists and that the situation is grim [ 134] 2. Talks with Kat, begins to suspect the ghost is stuck because of something Muut said [ 357] 3. Learns her name is Jeanne and that there is some weird connection to the original court robots and their creator [ 420] 4. Learns the guides are still working the problem, and all but outright asking for her help [ 528] 5. Gets a weird response from Jones when she feels around the edges of the topic [ 588] 6. Learns the ugly story behind Diego, Jeanne, and the Court [ 649] 7. Enlists Parley and Smitty for help on doing some spy work, gets more than she bargained for and a bunch of history [ 770] 8. Collectively, they determine Parley needs to level up in fencing just to be able to hold Jeanne at bay [ 955] 9. Parley realizes she needs even more training [ 1195] 10. The current plan starts to form, but they also realize they need to do some research on Jeanne [ 1299] 11. They learn the psychopomps have been working on claiming Jeanne all this time, but come to terms with the fact that Parley will likely never be good enough to beat her [ 1315] 12. They get some information about the device [ 1342] 13. They enlisted help from Blue (and Red by association) for a bold and novel plan to distract Jeanne that doesn't require confronting her directly as a fencer/swordfighter at square one [ 1702] They have learned quite a lot from everyone that is likely to know something about the device and Jeanne. They've come up with a plan that draws on a wide variety of resources, using novel techniques to distract Jeanne in a way that she is not expecting and is not her primary strength. All to buy time to do what the RotD agrees needs to be done: disable the device, so that Jeanne can be freed. SOmething that the RotD and the psychopomps agree needs to be done, and which the latter have asked her to do.

Good recap. It looks like things have gone pearshaped, now, as Jeanne is starting to get the wind up and Antimony is being sucked into a green vortex.
Kat will be worried about Annie, and may be distracted by screaming from the shore contingent. Robot may or may not remain in one piece. Blue is going to have her work cut out for her, even if she does have any hope of holding the illusion together. Red... hm, bet she plays a key role, since she's not exactly a planned participant as far as I can tell, so it's a reasonable literary ploy to ring her in to fix things at the point of maximum threat. :)
