Flashback! If I was going to pull a trope here, I'd say it's an unintentional Hikaru Genji.

Lovely page.
Yin: And it kind of is, isn't it? Unintentional, I mean.

I'm really liking these hyper-stylized flashbacks.
As for Kat: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawww. So cute.

Thats pretty cool. I like the style too.
You can see Kat has her mother's rebellious hair.

I wonder if there is any significance to Kat having Anja's hair in the flashback... Is Anja somehow connected to the Etheric? Maybe that's why she's sad Kat's being so mad sciency...

Well, Anja's also a science teacher (see the note below this page).

That is some freakin awesome art, Tom. I really like what you're doing for this chapter as a whole.

Uncle Jimmy before Mr. Eglamore, huh? I wonder why it changed...

I really like the way Kat's grabbing her mom's hair in the last panel there.

Uncle Jimmy before Mr. Eglamore, huh? I wonder why it changed... It's because now he is her teacher. You can't have pupils address their teachers in such a familiar way, especially if they aren't really related at all. It may undermine authority and/or objectivity.

If I was going to pull a trope here, I'd say it's an unintentional Hikaru Genji. And what does that mean? Apparently it means "A story where a man scores with a woman because he's building on a parental role". Which is wonderful. The Internet is wonderful.

Hey, crushing on your teachers/uncles/family friends is part of growing up. As long as nobody gets any ideas... I mean look at him! If Kat wasn't crushing I would have to wonder why exactly, even I would have to think hard if he offered

It's not the internet's fault. It's the people who use it and how they use it. Also, Hikaru Genji doesn't fit.

TvTropes. Slightly derailing polite discussion since whenever.

I hope that Kat's crush on Eglamore came after the "Uncle Jimmy" period.
(And when the page first loaded, I for a moment thought that we were looking at Anya as a child, rather than Kat.)

I really enjoy the colors in this one.
Also, slightly nostalgic for times many years passed, when I could sleep anywhere because I could fit anywhere. Sleeping in a chair isn't so easy anymore.

1. The art is SOOOOOO amazing 2. As a psychoanalist, I must point out that love interest are always modelled around the parentl roles (either so it looks alike, or completely the opposite). By having a male-role model who was close (enough to have the honorific "uncle") but not falling into the whole tabu incest (not really family), it was kinda of predictable that she could fall for him, although is simply a fase in her development, and having a crush on a boy her age means that she might have gone over it already...although I'm kinda of worried with the bird fixation 3. I'm gonna bet that well have 2 stories on this chapter: one being robot rebuilt, and the other one will be pieces of Kat's past... like we know now that she was a social klutz (did I use that word correctly?) and that "Jimmy" is a familiar figure from her early life... can't wait to see what else pops now 4. rounded corners, well be back on present time on Monday EDIT: Sigh... phase not fase (I wrote it in Spanish)

Kat isn't a social klutz; she couldn't help it if her parents were teachers and all the other kids (except for Annie) distrusted her because of that. If her parents had some other occupation and Kat behaved the same way that she does, I think she'd have made friends with her classmates easily.

This is a truly beautiful page. I love the colors, the shapes, everything.
However, my thoughts on "Uncle Jimmy": holy what.

I accept your point based on what we saw in Doctor Disaster chapter, although (and I have wondered about this a lot) both Annie and Kat seem to keep to themselves; being very talented girls each on her own way, they don't fit perfectly with the rest of their classmates... and of course I can be wrong about that because the only thing we see is what Tom allow us to.
