The Ring of Nibelung is a combination of Scandinavian sagas, adapted into an opera. According to Wikipedia its plot originates from Edda, Völsungasaga and the Medieval poem Nibelungenlied. It's loiosely based on the original sagas and the poem, but the ring is Wagner's own idea. At least I can't find a ring like that outisde of the opera. True. The notion of the curse on the ring from Alberich (Andvari in the original Norse myths) does appear in Wagner's sources, but not the notion of it bestowing power (with corruption), a la Tolkien's One Ring. That bit was entirely Wagner's idea.

That guy will do these things with those people. Prove me wrong. No, because it's actually part of a secret plot by that lady.

Penguin is a villain from the Batman comics. Batman... Yeah, I think I've heard about it. Honestly, I don't understand why do people read all those superhero comics. Thank you.

By the way, did Diego know that Jeanne would die? It was not stated, as far as I remember. And did he had a family? I doubt it. It's heavily implied he knew what Jeanne's fate would be in pages 653 - 657. As for other family, I doubt we'll ever know. One would assume he had some relatives and they had nothing to do with the court. He was probably ostracized due to his incredible genius and his abnormally-large nose. Not entirely dissimilar to the Penguin, if'n ya think about it. To posit some speculation of my own, do we actually know if Jeanne's lover was directly involved with The Device and the poisoning of the Anan Waters? Perhaps the device merely gave her the illusion that her lover was there, and then trapped/transformed her spirit into the psycho rage ghost we all know and love today. I've always thought him as being more akin to the Phantom of the Opera, all creepy and stalking some hot girl and living under the earth writing crazy operas making robutts. Or maybe The Phantom. That's kind of like The Penguin isn't it?

Antimony will become Fire Elemental(e) in the end of the comics. Reynard will come back to the Forest with her. Kat will turn out to be Diego's reincarnation and will marry Paz. Jones feels fantastic and she's still alive. By their dying she'll be still alive. And when they're dead she will be still alive. Still alive. Still alive.

I'm just gonna go and say something about my Jeannebot theory again, isn't it weird that the heart of the robots are the only things that looks like the real deal when the everything else on those blueprints also look like real bodyparts? Blueprints: gunnerkrigg.com/?p=880So, yep. I find that suspicious.

I didn't mean your Phantom to Penguin comparison, that struck me as clearly trolling. I meant Phantom to Diego. I couldn't tell if that part was also trolling *shrug* I'm at work so I have my polite face on and I was curious.

At all. In fact, in my mind he is close to Doctor Horrible. Dr Horrible almost got the girl though didn't he? and didn't betray her as such? Also, for some reason Neil Patrick Harris makes so much more sense and is more attractive now that I realise he's gay!

Does anyone else think Tom's timing with the Kat/Paz thing and Annie in the Forest in intentional?
If you look back at Divine you see some mention of (possibly) something between Annie and that green dude. Presumably anything to do with that will come out in Annie in the Forest.
The whole of Divine pretty much screams Kat liking Annie. You start with Kat looking like she wants to hold Annie's hand staring at it, like it bothers her, I think that's her being worried what other might think of her for doing it. Then you have the look of utter contempt Kat give Zimmy when she holds Annie's hand. Then you have her shock at possibly something between Annie and green dude. Then just before Zimmy does her thing she goes to brush Annie's hair out of her face before snapping out of it and looking away from Zimmy and Annie. Then, of al lthe people to remove Kat's "straight" persona (or whatever you want to call it, reveals her true self etc), it's the canon lesbian (or a the very least, an item) couple.
So, how I now think this will go down: Annie in the Forest will show something between Annie and green forest dude. Kat, having figured it out from what Zimmy said about him will decide that despite loving Annie, she thinks it's a lost cause and will move onto Paz.
Anyway, I expect to see scans of Annie in the Forest in the next few hours

gosh golly, wild speculation coming up:
So, the story of GC repeats the past. Annie is the new Jeanne, Kat is the new Diego (minus large nose), kamlen is the new elf-boy, Eggers is obviously the protectordude, not sure who the archer or the rest are...

Kat is the new Diego (minus large nose) No one's nose can compare to Diego's, but Zimmy did call Kat "bignose" a few times.

Annie is the new Jeanne, Kat is the new Diego (minus large nose), kamlen is the new elf-boy, Eggers is obviously the protectordude, not sure who the archer or the rest are... So what you're clearly implying is that Kat will have Annie killed, perhaps because Kat finds out she likes girls but Annie doesn't. There seem to be similarities in numerous examples. For one, unlike Annie, Kat didn't like the smell of the forest after Annie got back, which is like how Diego disliked the forest while Jeanne was sad that she was away from the forest. But I still find it hard to see Diego as actually loving Jeanne, since he basically put her to death. Then again, he used crazy mental tricks to blame Sir Young as her murderer. James holds Sir Young's title in the present day. If your theory is true, the two stories probably won't be so parallel down to the motives, relationships, feelings, and more of the characters involved. The actions and events seem most likely to mirror one another. I just can't see Kat killing Annie and blaming James. I mean Kat loves Annie so much! Maybe she kills her indirectly and ushers in a new revolution for civilization, just as Diego did with his robots and his sacrifice. Or maybe Annie has a kid and that kid drains her life and powers just like Annie drained her mom's life and powers, so Kat doesn't like the kid and has it killed as a sacrifice for whatever she's doing with the ether and organic machines. Then Annie stops dying AND her plan is fulfilled. She might do it in secret. God... that's evil. It's horrific. EDIT: gunnerkrigg.com/?p=659And I just read this right now. Kat said "Love makes you act in strange ways." Just like Kat distanced herself from Annie after Annie got back from the forest.

Zimmy's power is to enter people's dream worlds. Zimmingham is only so awful because her childhood was terrible. Now that Zimmingham's firmly entrenched in her mind though she's stuck with it.

About Kat's sexuality throughout the comic:
Alistair was pretty feminine, with his long hair and fragility. After he became a bird, I think Kat had a desire to fix birds as a subconscious way of fixing Alistair. Her desire to fix living things also manifests when she comforts Paz.
James was the first masculine figure in her life, so I think she latched onto his image like how young boys latch onto hypersexualized female celebrities when they're prepubescent.
She could be bi, lesbian or mostly straight, but it appears to me that she has at least some attraction to girls, and that this is an important topic regarding Kat's character.
And if Annie + weird looking green guy do have a kid (though given recent information, they might not get together after all, despite what happened in Divine), I think Kat is going to deny her dislike for him/her, while deep down she thinks he/she is an abomination. She might justify getting rid of the kid by saying it's to save Annie, but the thing that really pushes her is her repressed hatred. By that time, Parley would probably become the Protector of the Court and Kat might ascend to her metallic angel form (I have no idea what that thing is yet I can't shake off the thought that it really is Kat).
EDIT: never mind, even if Annie died, Surma still would have died, so this wouldn't work unless there was a weird method for making it work other than straight up killing
Also I can't find the post anymore but yesterday I read a post here by someone who said Kat = cation and Annie = anion. I felt that was a cool observation and more attention should be paid to it, even if the naming was coincidental.
