Nor does Tom say it is a bonus page in his comment section like he usually does. There is a lot that isn't in this page. Maybe it's just the right-page needed in the printed book, as this chapter had an odd (in both senses) number of pages. We would then have the Bonus page on Wednesday and the title page of next chapter on Friday. Well, actually, with Tom, who knows? Well then there should have been similar filler after chapter 53, which is also 30 pages + bonus page. Probably somewhere else too, unless its a recent policy change. Doesn't add up. I'd go with the theory that this is a false start and the next page starts with the same setting but goes further. You are right though, this is probably dictated by the book format. Feeling silly: gkc dumb.png (290.05 KB) Totally not going to try to draw Coyote as Eric or Steven.

"Chapter 56: What Actually Happened Alternatively: Chapter 56: Why Chapter 55 Happened"
I'm beginning to think the answer might be "None of the Above"...
Enjoying yourself, Lord Coyote?
I think I'll pass on the creepy desert visions (although they sound really appealing....no! Resist!)

Where do I sign up for Church of Coyote? I'll be visiting you in your dreams. Go to the highest plateau of your dreamscape's desert and call out My name three times. A tempest will come from on high, scattering the stars across the firmament in echo of My ancient artistry. Billowing clouds of dust will surround you, coiling into shapes of animals and etheric symbols too brief to see clearly. My beautiful black hide, covered in the stars of distant galaxies, will encompass the horizon as I manifest to My supplicant. You will see My mighty paws crush the sun-touched mountains in the distance, and hear My resonant laughter, eternal and primordial as the waves crashing upon the shores. If I judge you worthy (read:interesting), you may join My cult church. The unworthy are delicious less lucky. I become their zahir, the center of all of their thoughts and desires, and they will go mad longing to bask in My presence once more. They begin to laugh endlessly, and continue even after their voice gives out. Sleep tight! I'll be waiting. Alternatively: Find some trouble to get into that Coyote might consider amusing to watch and be prepared to explain how much more amusing you'll be to watch if you survive said trouble. Or offer cookies. Coyotes like cookies.

Oh man, I'm going to be the pedant and I can't stop myself... Chapter 53 is 30 pages total. It ends on Page 29 (chapter title page counts as #1), plus bonus page. So I'm going with arzeik on this one. So far, the only odd-numbered chapters have been at the ends of books. And I'm going to guess that Tom got the humor out of the way so he could use the bonus page to bum us all out with Annie stuck between a cold father and a hurt Renard. Given his track record of late of continually pulling the rug out from under all of us (in the best way, of course).

That one is unique I guess, following a bonus page and without antimony sign. Chapter 7 had the first treatise, no bonus page. Chapter 11 had two bonus pages, both with sign. Ch. 14, 22, 31, 41 and 49 had no bonus page, but a treatise and a Tea page, followed by (mostly) City Face (and 41 had the "How's it been going?" page). ch. 18 and 32 had a bonus page and two black and white pages without sign. Page 1590 is the first non-treatise following an end of chapter, without antimony sign. Did I miss something? I assume we should not read to much in things like this. I also assume we always will.

My guess is that Coyote has possessed either Renard or Tony

My guess is that Coyote has possessed either Renard or Tony He can't do that, because he gave the power to possess bodies to Renard.

Coyote has possessed Tom! It's the obvious explanation.

I take it that Coyote is pleased to see Renard back in Annie's hands. And for Annie to have come back to herself enough to go ask her father for him.
Or, possibly, that he just farted. Coyote strikes me as the kind who laughs at his own farts.

This page strikes me as completely Tove Jansson for some reason. Which is unquestionably a good thing.
