For once, my pessimism was incorrect!I was hoping for resolution from the previous page, though. Why must we remain in limbo over Annie's emotional state, Tom? I like the look Smitty and Ysengrin share there. Also, I think part of Annie's "Phew..." was that she was afraid her anger would harm people like Ysengrin's has before. The fact that she restrained herself without resorting to drastic measures makes her less afraid of her own anger, and perhaps is a step in a positive direction.

Rabbit is reminding Annie this chapter is all about him. You'll have time to resolve your emotional issues later, Annie

Well that deescalated quickly... Hopefully we will have some more of complete Annie soon, with some character development thrown in for good measure

I know that in all reality I should probably be having some thoughts on what repercussions the last few pages will hold for the characters of this story, but I have to be honest.
All I can think about right now is that seeing Ysengrin's trunk-arm burnt to a smoldering husk gives me the strangest urge to roast marshmallows.

Aha. You're in the middle of an emotional thunderstorm of Olympian proportions. And you manage to not hurt an innocent. Good job Annie.
Ysengrin that must sting like heck, dude.
Also I see a bit of mirroring here. Anthony cut off his own hand to get a chance to get Surma back. Ysengrin let Annie char his arm so that she could get herself back. Point to Ysengrin.

Well done Ysengrin, and Annie.
I feel I deserve cookies for predicting this, but I didn't actually post my ideas in last weeks thread so I'll just have to make do with homemade ones...
I'm sure Coyote could grow Ysengrin's arm back if he wanted, but somehow I doubt he will, he'll leave it a burnt husk in order to remind the both of them of their power.

Well, I think Ysengrin has shown the power to regrow it by himself. Was just thinking that myself. This incident seems to suggest he has some sort of limited effect over most of the trees in the forest by the looks of it: www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1084

Well, I think Ysengrin has shown the power to regrow it by himself. He can almost certainly regrow it, but he might have been truly harmed if Bunny Boy hadn't intervened. I'm again touched by Ysengrin's willingness to sacrifice his own well-being to try to help his friend recover. All I can think about right now is that seeing Ysengrin's trunk-arm burnt to a smoldering husk gives me the strangest urge to roast marshmallows. This needs fanart. And I need marshmallows. Time is of the essence! Also I see a bit of mirroring here. Anthony cut off his own hand to get a chance to get Surma back. Ysengrin let Annie char his arm so that she could get herself back. Point to Ysengrin. I would like your post multiple times if I could. This is actually a very powerful comparison I had missed. Also, BBCode uses [ b] notation rather than < b> notation

Fire Elemental's one weakness a rabbit boy! I would normally question the awesomeness of this rabbit, but considering what the Rabbit of Caernaborg did to a man......
Ysengrin is going to need a new arm if anymore emotional states of anger are induced in the future.

The fact that she restrained herself without resorting to drastic measures makes her less afraid of her own anger, and perhaps is a step in a positive direction. I definitely think it was a step in the right direction. She has now demonstrated to herself (and to the readers...) that although she is very angry, she is not a scary monster of uncontrolable rage. Note that she is not in white mask mode, as we have seen even previous to her getting cut off. She is not supressing her emotions, instead there are stronger emotions that won over her anger: her worry and concern over the well-being of one cute rabbit.
We are still right in the middle of Annie's emotional issues. She is on her way to understand that she is the fire... but the fire doesn't have to be all that she is.

Yeah, see, I know this is all very important, but first thing's first. Imma need Smitty's look from panel 8 in a "Smitty is kinda okay with this situation" stamp.
Rabbit boy's cute, but I wonder about the uncaring for her fire. Well Red tried to cut off her fingers, so maybe new humans are just naturally ignorant to physical harm.

I like the transition twixt panels seven and eight, with Smitty assessing the damage and then giving Ysengrin a look that seems to say "Yep, coulda been worse. Welcome back from the brink."
Antimony's care for innocents is a sign that she's not totally focused on herself any more. Ysengrin's arm will be regrown soon, possibly within minutes, and she's got food for thought.

Yes, things would look weird to the former bunny. He now has a much narrower field of vision but it is stereoscopic and he sees much more detail and he sees colours that he did not before, the red end of the spectrum which would have been grey or black to him as a rabbit.

Is... Is Ysengrin smirking in panel 6?
Seeing the effect of Annie's fire on the tree-wolf's arm, it's kind of confirmed for me that Bunny-boy's act was quite reckless; unless he somehow knew that Andrew's ability would prevent him from suffering any damage, or would at least make it more likely that Annie could react on time.

More like half a smile. Annie reconnected with her fire elemental and pulled herself together enough to not hurt Bunny-boy. Having Smitty there may have helped with timing. As for surviving Annie's fiery anger; Ysengrin was willing to risk damage to bring her back to herself. He is pretty tough and he's dog spirit. As for a complete resolution, it's the journey not the destination that makes up a story.

Either that kid is secretly a bad-ass who don't take nothin' from nobody... or he was incredibly and beautifully naive. Maybe a bit of both.

Smitty is pretty inscrutable, judging from how most people had a completely different interpretation of his reaction.
I'm in the "mad respect, bro" camp. The real (non-brainwashed) Ysengrin is a champ of tough love and a true friend.

Does Ysengrin even have feeling in the wood? Is he even right handed
I wonder if we can draw any conclusions from the fact that Anniemony swiftly disintegrated a big bit of wood that was only nicked by Eglamore's best chop.
Smitty looks like he thinks they're all crazy and he wants a sandwich.

I think that we are experiencing Annie's reconstruction of her emotional state just like it would occur to any other teenager that had suffered through separation from her parents (through death and through distance): slowly. It's not going to resolve in a page, or in a chapter. It's probably not going to resolve until The End.

Anyone else feeling all warm and fuzzy inside because of the bunny in these two last pages? Just grabbing Annie by the hand, dragging her along. This is too much, too much. Anyways. So we do get a happy fairy/bunny reunion AND Annie burning something to a crisp. I am completely satisfied with this chapter. Edit: I am a Gunner now! I am a Gunner!! Finally!!! I can stop posting now! /jk

Everything in this page has been overshadowed by one person's cuteness. Rabbit boy: }:3 It gets less cute when you remember the one thing rabbits always get associated with. Even less so if you have actually seen the act. (Full auto rabbit fire 20bb/s 5s!) Yeah, have fun with that shiny new human body, bunny-boy... I wonder how the truly imaginative people survive like at all. Maybe their minds have other places to wander from the gutter.
