Man, what is with that robot? The X-shaped gouges on its head, the blast or abrasion patch on its chest...

I thought Annie's hair was longer than it was in the previous chapter and her request to tidy it up was an indication that she was slowly letting it grow back out. But it makes more sense that this was the day she chopped it off herself.

Let's dance to joy division Great plan. Waiting for the moment she at last loses control...I thought Annie's hair was longer than it was in the previous chapter and her request to tidy it up was an indication that she was slowly letting it grow back out. But it makes more sense that this was the day she chopped it off herself. Feels like it was after last chapter. I get the point of those who think it was earlier, but to me it just doesn't feel right.

Man, what is with that robot? The X-shaped gouges on its head, the blast or abrasion patch on its chest... You don't just straight-up ask a robot how it got those scars, man... it probably had an abusive manufacturer.

Wow, panel three: that's how you define "pissed off". KYRPII NIIN SAATANASTI.png (104.85 KB) Man, what is with that robot? The X-shaped gouges on its head, the blast or abrasion patch on its chest... You don't just straight-up ask a robot how it got those scars, man... it probably had an abusive manufacturer. Maybe it's an ex-military robot, against the forest so it's equipped for trimming trees and bushes. It had had that kind of "insignia patch" on its chest plate like we saw on those court officials having in chapters 27 and 28.

Man, what is with that robot? The X-shaped gouges on its head... Prototype X-Box accessory, clearly. That's where he had his name tag, up until he broke out of the prototype X-Box accessory facility and took the secret identity as a hairdresser!

It looks like the robot did notice the room filled with flames but just couldn't be bothered. Or flames were gone before it could express concern, and now it doesn't know what to say on this.

Yeah, the robot totally saw that. I wonder if it was her way of saying, "No, I don't want to do small talk." But then, she says it was wonderful. It's a bit mixed, message-wise. Clearly she is upset, but maybe this is a part of her torn-nature at the moment. If the flame-her made that, perhaps Annie is losing control of her powers? The page's title is "getting the hang of it", so maybe it's just that. I'd guess Annie was trying to sound "normal", but somehow slipped a bit, and for a second the burning hell she was trying to hide under the carpet showed a bit. Awkward.
A brief flaring of cold fire because she's using the blinker stone. Annie is getting a professional hair cut a short time after she hacked off her hair. I'd say she also hacked off Ms Flame. The robot is being discreet.

Annie could've gotten a really interesting haircut if the robot interpreted her instructions a little more creatively. Imagine Anthony's reaction to, say, this:

It's a toss-up:
a) Antimony Carver lights up the barber shop all stone-faced because she still can't figure out how to command the Model-H to produce something other than the Paradise Lost audiobook b) The Fire recoils in anticipation for much the same reason that Medusa's hair would hiss at the curling iron

Annie looks very Jones-like today. Except for the slumped shoulders.

Now did Renard see her after this haircut? I'm hoping we don't shift to another story, even if does feel a bit heavy.

Nah. Sky Schemer already made Tony Fun Time into an instant classic. I'm just imagining the monty python flying circus or the muppet show theme playing over this. It's time to face the music! It's time to know the frights! It's time to meet the Tony, on the Tony Show tonight! It's time to down some liquor! It's time for "Breakdown Night"! It's time for "Suicidal", on the Tony Show tonight! Why do we always watch this? I guess we'll never know It's like a kind of torture To have to watch this schmo'!It's time to cut our limbs off! It's time for Zimmy's right! It's time to deeply suffer, on the Tony Show tonight! So now let's get angst started! (Why don't you get angst started?)It's time to get angst started ... On the Unprofessional, Way-Confessional, Too-Repressional, DEEP-DEPRESSIONAL!This! Is! What! We! Call! The! TO! NY! SHOOOOOOW!

I love the body language on on this page, though. The way Annie slumps her shoulders and folds her hands in her lap is such a small detail but it speaks volumes about her mental state.

Hm. Seeing evidence that Annie took that many swipes at herself with a blade is surprisingly upsetting.

I wonder how Annie's hair got so disheveled... Fire Elemental shenanigans which we shall never witness? I'm guessing her attempt to cut her own hair wasn't quite as smooth as we were shown. It's hard to cut your own hair, even when you aren't in the middle of a total emotional breakdown.

gosh golly do you realize what this means???
Look at panels 3 and 4- the robot can clearly sense ETHER! This has staggering implications for the GKC universe as a whole, and I expect to see it brought up a lot in future comics.

I'm a little surprised the hardcore theory guys haven't discussed it yet. Of course, there is plenty of other content on this page to keep us amply distracted from such subtle plot details as robotic ether sensitivity. Or Annie actually filled the entire room with flame, and the robot was justifiably startled.

I just assumed the flames were of the type we saw in Residential: visible, but with no heat (otherwise Annie would be on fire). This could either mean that the Annimental doesn't want to hurt Annie (rather, she just wants to vent her irritation) or that she can't. I do hope, however, that your speculation is correct, as that would supply more evidence for my pet wildspec.

I think there's very strong evidence that the robots can see the etheric version of Kat, that is, the same thing Zimmy sees. Otherwise, why would they be all agog at their first glimpse of her? And if they can see that, why shouldn't they be aware of other etheric manifestations? Love your wildspec, btw.

I hate to be that guy, but I believe Tom has said that the bonus pages are non-canon. His chance to do something fun without messing up the storyline. EDIT: I stand corrected! I was searching through the Formspring answers and found one where Tom said the bonus pages are canon. I still hate to be that guy. Look at panels 3 and 4- the robot can clearly sense ETHER! This has staggering implications for the GKC universe as a whole, and I expect to see it brought up a lot in future comics. And if they can see that, why shouldn't they be aware of other etheric manifestations? Keep in mind that Annie hasn't seen anything etheric about Kat, so it isn't clear that what the Bots, Zimmy, or Paz have seen is etheric. Zimmy (and Paz through Zimmyvision made real) may have been glimpsing the Mecha Angel of the future instead of Kat of the present. I don't know what is up with the Bots except to say that they may being seeing through their faith instead of seeing the ether.

I wonder how Annie's hair got so disheveled... Fire Elemental shenanigans which we shall never witness? I took it to be the aftermath from her self inflicted cut in the flashback at the beginning of the chapter. Little girls who play with scissors know that trip to the salon the next day is no joke. Ninja'd by just about everyone. Also, this is brilliant: I'm just imagining the monty python flying circus or the muppet show theme playing over this. It's time to face the music! Reminds me of that time I went to Hair Butchery and got half my back shaved. For no extra charge. Without even requesting it.
