No, that's how Donald is getting into the shower... heh... OK... *steals brain bleach from page* Oh good lord yes. It used to be popular in my old neighborhood to shoot a regional grain alcohol (because if you just drank the stuff your throat would close up and you couldn't get it down) and then wash it down with the municipality's pride mass-produced beer to keep the hard stuff from literally eating away our stomachs... and to tell you (or some people anyway) how long ago this was the bottle of 750ml 190 cost $6US and the six-pak cost around $2.30. You and three friends could get drunk in way under ten minutes for under ten dollars and still have half of that bottle of alcohol for next time. And just to illustrate the point I saw someone get drunk in under sixty seconds in college once without the fancy alcohol mists and beer bongs kids have today. He chugged the last three or four fingers of a liter of the pure stuff and then became temporarily blind and rolled around on the floor holding his head; he spent the night hiding in a closet from the light like dracula, moaning like a damned soul and screeching whenever someone cracked the door to check on him. Seriously, I assume the bottle contains "good stuff" with which Donald will get Anthony to talk about his work where he doesn't have an excuse about talking in front of other people (Renard may not count). Hopefully we'll have confirmation on the "bonelasers" incident one way or another. Alcohol goes through you that quickly? O.O I've seen people get drunk but it tends to take them roughly half an hour. Although something that eats through your stomach is probably really strong stuff. But how does it make you go blind?! Scary... I'm afraid the prices don't say much to me, since I'm not American and I don't really know how much beer costs anywhere. Would Anthony drink, though? He is a surgeon, after all. And considering how much he seems to keep himself reined in, he might not want to let loose at all.

I want to see Anthony and Jones dancing to Andrew W.K. w/lampshades on their heads and Solo cups in their hands. But still stonefaced. That should be the next end-of-chapter montage. Each panel w/a PARTY HARD! caption.

O.O I've seen people get drunk but it tends to take them roughly half an hour. Although something that eats through your stomach is probably really strong stuff. But how does it make you go blind?! Scary... I'm guessing the sudden spike in blood alcohol caused a migraine and maybe that was made worse by panic in someone that wasn't used to drinking hard stuff. That blindness was temporary and probably lasted only a few minutes but the migraine and light sensitivity lasted all night. Think "ice cream headache" but on steroids. It's in theory possible to go permanently blind via brain damage if there is enough methanol or other contaminants in the distillation process of your hard liquor, but I prefer the legends where moonshine just made people see devils. I'm afraid the prices don't say much to me, since I'm not American and I don't really know how much beer costs anywhere. If you're young and female, you're gambling, or you have lab access your drinks are usually free anyway. Just in case you gain access to a lab, some advice: It is possible to use dry ice to cool your drink in an awesome way but the impurities will give you a sore throat. Never put anything labeled "CP" in your drink. Or in your mouth. No matter how safe or inviting the rest of the label is. And the test monkeys are not your friends no matter what they tell you. Would Anthony drink, though? He is a surgeon, after all. And considering how much he seems to keep himself reined in, he might not want to let loose at all. Donald thinks he will. Maybe Anthony just drinks very infrequently to blow off stress, or socially when he's around Donlans. And if he doesn't drink often then he will be a lightweight.

And unless he also has taken Anja's blinker stone, how else could anyone else here this conversation? Evidence suggests that Anja no longer has a blinker stone of her own. Specifically, the fact that the first time in-comic that Coyote visited the Court, she borrowed Annie's to send up the reply signal. At some point it was indicated that a blinker stone is largely a training device, and will eventually not be needed. On the other hand, even when no longer needed it could be used as is occurring here, as a known reference marker in a location its owner does NOT know. Anja would not need a blinker stone for that; she could just use her husband.

I'm both, so I've had guys offer to buy me drinks occasionally. I am interested in mixing drinks, though, so thank you for the advice! Now all I need are some guinea pigs, seeing as I can't drink myself. Test monkeys are aggressive drunks, then? XD Donald thinks he will. Maybe Anthony just drinks very infrequently to blow off stress, or socially when he's around Donlans. And if he doesn't drink often then he will be a lightweight. That would be interesting to see. We already know that Anthony isn't as reserved as he normally is when he's around Donald, so maybe we'll learn something of his real feelings here. Unless it isn't alcohol in the bottle at all. Mr. Siddell is writing for all ages here, so would someone getting drunk be an apropos topic? It's an honest question.

...but I prefer the legends where moonshine just made people see devils. Or pink elephants? I believe pink elephants was a movie reference but there is a whole cycle of folk tales, possibly some old enough to be legends, about the Appalachian mountains and evil "spirits." I remember one from The Silver Bullet where a slighted witch cursed a whole area and anyone who drank the moonshine from that place saw red devils. ...Now all I need are some guinea pigs, seeing as I can't drink myself. That's what friends are for. Testing out your latest concoction on. And if they're too young to know the good stuff or if you've mixed it right they'll probably jump at the chance to drink anything with alcohol in it; you won't even have to knock them out and tie them up. But seriously, learning how to mix drinks properly is expensive. And people will notice if you're taking enough from their liquor cabinets to train yourself in a marketable skill. Schools teach mixmaster classes in lots of places, probably non-certified versions online somewhere too, else just pick two or three popular ones you like and stick with them when you're a bit older. Dark rum and coke is probably the most universal and easiest, but it's also sort of unimpressive unless you garnish it. Test monkeys are aggressive drunks, then? XD Thankfully I haven't had to deal with that but rumor has it that test animals can be unpredictable, yes. The monkeys they used to train to smoke cigarettes were said to have nic fits after the studies were done... Unless it isn't alcohol in the bottle at all. Mr. Siddell is writing for all ages here, so would someone getting drunk be an apropos topic? It's an honest question. As others have pointed out, the chapter icon is a bottle on a table with a glass/cup/something next to it and it does look like booze. Personally, I would have been happy if the kids had never grown up and just had adventures... but the comic is going to cover growing up stuff like dating, your sort-of-ex dating someone else, your bff finding out that she's attracted to another girl, and other tween/teen drama, so I guess alcohol was coming down the pike sooner or later.

Anja still had her blinker stone when she was teaching Annie to use hers: www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=509 Actually, the fact that she borrowed Annie's stone in the scene where she sent the signal back to the forest instead of calling her own from home is an interesting point. Perhaps she did so hoping Annie would pick up on the fact that she could ask her questions about it.

Maybe Anja wanted to confirm that Annie had an actual blinker stone by using it herself. But it does seem odd that Anja could use Annie's blinker stone since the blinker stones seem to be atuned to an individual. I guess I ignored the oddity by assuming that Tom would have explained it if it was important.

I was actually under the impression that blinker stones weren't atuned - think I recall seeing a WoT that said while Surma didn't own a blinker stone she'd used one at times. Anja had no trouble using Annie's when she borrowed it. Anja also seemed to recognize that Annie was wearing a blinker stone even though the stone itself was tucked inside Annie's shirt and out of view at the time, the stone appears to be glowing when Annie takes it out which left me thinking those who are etherically gifted can somehow "sense" the nature of blinker stones.

They have to be attuned in some way, it's not like everyone can call every blinker stone to themselves. That would be mass blinker stone chaos.
