So, if we didn't already know that this elemental incarnation was at least in some way related to Annie, this would be the most terrifying presence in the story to date, no? A straight up destructive entity made of flames and extremely questionable hairstyles.

Hmmm, seems to settle things. The Fire is not in fact physical, or else it is merely incorporeal to some degree.
And it is most certainly unhappy.

Yeah, that thing's pissed off. If this is the result of some brilliant plan of Annie's I think said plan may have a hole or two in it. Like for instance, how angry a fire elemental spirit can get if you lock it away in a room all day, which may very well lead to it looking for and eventually finding a way to escape...

This does not look good. Annie cutting herself in two and trying to stop rage affecting her actions.

Oooh, looks like someone doesn't approve of Anthony's interior design choices, yes?

So now we have answers. One extremely pissed off fire elemental, trapped in a room for how long? Two weeks? More? And I bet Rey knows about this and that's why he was told not to speak and that's why he is anxious. Annie keeps cutting herself while trying to clean up a mess [broken glass incident].

Apparently I was wrong when I thought it was more distress than anger! That's plenty of rage right there!
Now I wanna go back and see the exact time when Annie cut it. It was between meeting with her father, and Kat arriving to the dorm, right? I think so.

It could be controlled anger - deliberately lashing out in a way that does no damage.
Or it could be inability - not having a way to do actual damage. In which case, the possibility of damaging *people* still might exist. (On a previous occasion Annie's fire was hot enough to stop Eglamore from pursuing her, but didn't burn anything.) Or might not.

Either Annie still maintains control over the Fire's harmfulness, or the Fire cannot affect objects that presumably leave little or no trace in the Ether. I suspect that Jeanne may be similarly unable to manipulate that which is not Etheric, not even by means of her weapon. For instance, the wound she inflicted on Annie was always invisible to Kat. A more distantly related question: while on the cruise ship, was Kat aware of her brief manifestation as the Angel? I assume she didn't, due to how she perceived the Realm of the Dead, but then it follows that this page displays a subjective reality -- namely, what Paz was seeing at the time (the blue smoke probably blocked everyone else from sight). So, if Paz can see the Ether in a similar fashion as Annie or Mort, how do people gain this ability? The Court probably wants to discover this. In addition, as shown on this page, Annie can either make the Fire keep her distance in a perfect circle around her, or the Fire herself took caution not to harm Annie. The Fire presumably doesn't fancy studying as much as Annie does now, unless Annie really only pretends to enjoy her homework (and would she feel ashamed for cheating if she truly disliked studying?). Thus divergent approaches to life, between which she had previously fluctuated, have now settled more distinctly into separate forms. I wonder with what philosophy the eventual reunification will leave her, if it happens? The Fire may also be motivated by anger at what she perceives as Annie's docile subjugation to her father's expectations, in which case she's behaving more like Kat than Annie herself at the moment. I find that amusing. Apparently I was wrong when I thought it was more distress than anger! That's plenty of rage right there! Well, the Fire may be raging because the experience of separation from Annie is painful for her, or because she views Annie's policy of appeasement as unworthy of a descendant of pure fire, particularly because the latter has ostensibly led to the former. In any event, it takes an injury to one's dignity to feel anger.

I guess you could say we have...a raging fire on our hands.
But not its hands. Its hands are currently useless.

Oooh, looks like someone doesn't approve of Anthony's interior design choices, yes? Well he completely ignored all the rules of Feng shui. Terrible. In other news, could the haircutting be meant to render the fire harmless? Sever the link between the elemental and the real world, instead of the link between Annie and her fiery side? Or Sky Schemer is right; Annie stores all her anger and frustration in the elemental.

Flame Elemental may have a method to her raging madness; she could be practicing becoming corporeal.

Flame Elemental may have a method to her raging madness; she could be practicing becoming corporeal. Maybe. She waited until she was alone. Because the other Annie can control her, or because she didn't want to be seen?
