Groaaaaaaaaaan. I think Jones says Extra normal in the same sense as the phrase Paranormal. Things at Gunnerkrigg are a little past normal, if you get the drift. Extra normal just sounds more Jonesy than saying paranormal. Can't think of a word that explains most of the goings on at GC any better than that.

Jones is not a medium because the ability to stop a sword with your face just doesn't cut it. that pun was terrible and also horrible, you should be ashamed I would've added "pun not intended" if I realised it was there. Seriously though, I did know it was there, but I thought nobody would be corny enough to even think it was a pun.

I have a friend who would have died if he had read that. also, having thought about this, perhaps Smith's abilities lean towards the ability to accurately predict the future to some extent. He might not be able to see very far, but I can see where even just having a hint of what's going to happen within a few minutes would be helpful during Mediation, in order to prevent things from going sour, or to direct things into a better light if you know just what the person is going to do next. And cards would be a good way of demonstrating this ability, especially if the deck looks like its just been thrown together, the way it does with Parley holding it, because that way there is no specific order to the cards for Smith to rely on.

That sounds like the best bet so far.

Is "extra normal" a common expression in the UK? I've never heard it before; I've always heard it expressed as "extra ordinary". I'm in California, and I've heard 'extra normal' a couple times, but never 'extra ordinary'. That's odd. I'm also Californian, yet I've heard "extra ordinary" quite a bit, but never "extra normal." What part are you from?
