Sounded like it was a suggestion of cutting Tony some slack. Well, it's hard to articulate properly what's bothersome about it. I had to work through it myself in previous posts. It's not that I want to justify Anthony's actions, it's that I feel I'll find a much richer, deeper story if I also look into his motives. And you can't do that without empathizing, at least temporarily. It's an uphill battle to even begin a discussion in this vein. The community instantly brands you the bad guy, the person who sides with an abuser. It's hard to separate the intertwined issues and knee-jerk reactions. At first you feel like you have to push through those knee-jerk reactions in order for the dialogue to even begin.

The best villains have an understandable history. True, but if they are to be forgiven or viewed in a respectable fashion, it should be on the merit that do the right thing in the end (through just means providing that Anthony is operating on good intentions currently) and not because they had it bad. I just called him a villain. I get it man.
