Anthony's motives are hard to read, but I don't think he likes Kat; maybe he sees her as a bad influence. I don't think he'll act on it, though. I still wonder if Anthony wishes Kat was his daughter. Probably not because of those inconvenient emotions Kat displays (and because my predictions/speculations haven't been very accurate). But Kat has all the academic success Anthony expected from Annie and, as far as Anthony knows, Kat appears to have no etheric entanglements. I don't know if Anthony would view Kat as a bad influence. Maybe a complicated variable he can't entirely control. I can see butterflies on the other side of the world keeping Anthony from sleeping soundly at night. I don't think Anthony is familiar enough with Kat to have that sort of admiration for her academic success. The way he said her name the first time when he was grilling Antimony about the cheating, you'd think he never had cause to utter it before (hell, he probably hasn't, given that he couldn't be bothered to tell his friends at the court that his wife kicked the bucket, I doubt he stayed in touch after he left the court). I'd imagine that could be a way for things to go, if Tom decides to have Anthony show something other than his cold, dead, unmoving exterior, but I don't think Anthony's had the time to develop that sentiment. Moving on to the page itself, Anthony, the proper phrase isn't "Now, about Renard," it's "I love you" followed by a hug. Hug your damn daughter already!

The lack of trust towards Annie is a little sickening. The fact that it only took a glance suggests that Antimony is used to this... If we set the context aside, there have been lots of stories and situations where a glance like that is comedic or expository, and it's not seen as 'sickening' at all. Perhaps our dislike for Anthony is causing some inappropriate response to an actually valid possibility (that Annie may call on Kat for help)?

Anthony checked all of Annies school work against all of the same school work Kat did in every subjected they shared for at least year 9 He specifically said, on the rare occasions Kat made mistakes Annie made the same mistakes, to prove that Annie was cheating. He acknowledged that Kat rarely makes mistakes and indicated that he had to go over a lot of Kat's school work to find those rare occasions (I bet Anthony made sure he had a large enough sample size of Kat's mistakes being repeated by Annie to form statistically findings). Therefore I conclude that at this point in time Anthony may know Kat's academic work better than anyone else.

YES? WHAT ABOUT RENARD!? I still kinda hope against hope that Kat found some way to "lose" Rey on the way to Annie's new digs, or to arrange a robot kidnapping when they were moving the rest of Annie's stuff. Also, he said "Good"! Is that the first nice thing he's had to say? I take it as a positive that he simply accepted Annie's word when she said she wasn't helped. I suppose. Maybe he didn't trust Annie to refuse help from Kat but did trust Annie to not lie to his face. Yeah, I don't think trust is the right word. Maybe that he trusts he has her whipped enough that she won't lie. I take it as a positive that he simply accepted Annie's word when she said she wasn't helped. To me it doesn't look like Anthony expected Kat to be there, or that the three had a meeting. He doesn't have any reason to want to involve Kat in this. Neither did Annie seem to expect the Renard topic to be brought up. I may be wrong, but I think she was only expecting the homework part. She looks embarrassed too. Did she take steps to protect Renard? Where is he anyway? Sulking in a drawer? Is he already under Anthony's control?
She already forbade Reynard from speaking and he went into hibernation mode, so there's that. No idea if Anthony can override that or not, I'm guessing no. Or maybe (if Rey has been turned over) he's trying to get Rey to reveal some information, and is unaware that "DA RULES" can't compel Rey to speak. He is still her father, that gives him every right to do this. Everything he has done until now is not bad, it is just the way he has done it that is bad. It's also my right to join the Westboro Baptist Church and run around doing... whatever it is they do. What's within one's rights isn't always right. And yes, pretty much everything he's done is bad. Even if his motives are good (which is extremely doubtful), his actions have all been terrible.

Its probably safe to assume that Renard has been turned over already, given Annie's mild surprise in the last panel. Though I do like the idea of Renard going "missing" when considering the absence of most of Annie's possessions. Him being out of her hands doesn't necessarily mean he "safely" arrived at his destination. Not meaning to go too far off on a tangent... Anthony checked all of Annies school work against all of the same school work Kat did in every subjected they shared for at least year 9 He specifically said, on the rare occasions Kat made mistakes Annie made the same mistakes, to prove that Annie was cheating. Therefore I conclude that at this point in time Anthony may know Kat's academic work better than anyone else. I could agree that its possible that Anthony may respect Kat academically. I feel we don't know enough about him to make that judgement, though. With how detached his personality is, it seems rather likely it wouldn't have an effect on his personal attitudes toward her. His expression in the third panel seems pretty neutral, even when you consider his eternal poker face. Really makes me want to see him interact with Mr. Donlan again, after such a long time. But that would make things too easy.

"Now, about Reynard..."
Let's play 'Complete the sentence':
"...he seems to have stolen my ability to relate with others like a normal person and replaced it with a lump of moldy cheese. Have you perchance seen it lying around anywhere? The cheese has begun attracting rodents and I'm tired of waking up with a mouse climbing into my ear."

I shall speculate: after all this Renard business is over, there will be some genuine Father Daughter time in form of judo.
Extra speculation: Anthony will show his etheric side by saying something like: "you may use your fire powers, I assure you I will not get hurt", and it will be freaking awesome.

I was thinking, that Kat could have had a robot sew a quick replica plushie. If Tony (or the Court) can't etherically detect Rey's presence, he'd be wondering why Rey wont reanimate on Annie's command. Maybe he unfroze, when Annie tried to unfreeze the doll. Pure speculation, but what if "Sneak" refers to Rey. He could be organizing an "Anthony Resistance" from an armchair with Kat's help, while everyone is focused on Kat and his decoy.

YES? WHAT ABOUT RENARD?!! TELL US!!!!
Well, he has transferred himself into an armchair and is currently rampaging through the Court as a giant chair monster while being trailed by several delighted Foley House students. I have nowhere to sit. Since this is somehow your fault, you will deal with this.
*sigh* And we aren't finding out until Monday.

I understand a bit about how Kat feels in front of Anthony. I've been in a similar position before, except it was both harder and easier for me. It was between two adults similar to Annie now, and an Anthony who does not see that his behavior is wrong. Kat has no respect for Anthony, and yet she is being mature by handling all this calmly.
I will never understand how these two adults I know do not get angry or demand an apology from someone who has done a great wrong(who should have faced legal punishment).

Wow, you really can feel the hatred that links those two, Kat and Anthony. Or maybe it's just the hatred that Kat has, because who knows what Anthony is thinking at this point (other than "give me Reynard now")? From what I've seen, Anthony is not capable of caring enough about anyone other than himself for his emotions to qualify as love or hate.

I feel that if everything was going smoothly for Tony concerning Renard, he'd never bring it up. Assuming that's right, what's the trouble? My thinking, too. Speculation is fun! Some possible scenarios: 1. Reynard is missing entirely. He managed to sneak away due to a loophole or loose wording in Antimony's order or transfer of ownership to Anthony. Hetty was good at loopholes. 2. Reynard is missing entirely because Kat snuck him out. 3. The transfer of ownership "doesn't work that way". Meaning, you can't be coerced into doing this. Or it can't be transferred at all. 4. Being owned and being cooperative are two different things, and Rey is causing problems. Particularly if the contract of ownership ends up being looser with Anthony than it was with Antimony. I am thinking of Hetty again. Or, things could have gone off without a hitch, leaving the significantly more ominous: 5. Now that Anthony owns Rey, "it's time to talk about his future"

I'll say it again: who is this girl? At the beginning of this chapter, I suspected Anthony was an impostor; now I'm wondering if Annie is. What happened to that strong-willed independent girl who faced down demons, speaks with the ferrymen of the dead, and flicked Coyote's nose? I'm remembering that odd panel when Anthony demanded she hand over Reynard, and the one later when she told Kat she felt close to losing her mind. Are we looking at some kind of hypnosis or other mind control?
The next strip, where Anthony discusses Reynard, will be telling, I suspect.

He is still her father, that gives him every right to do this ≠ Everything he has done until now is not bad, it is just the way he has done it that is bad. And the latter isn't even true in the case of forbidding her from going back to the forest and taking Renard given he didn't even give a proper reason for either. And if it was his decision that Annie cut her hair and dress the way she does, well... The forests is dangerous, we have seen that and even if she can handle herself (and I believe she can't forever, until now she has been lucky and under protection) and has protection human have a specific view of the forest, yes, anthony is in his right here. Taking away Renard, same thing, he might think Renard is dangerous or a bad influence on her. He has killed someone and has tried to kill her as well, he is in his right. We also have to consider the fact that Anthony does not know about the details relationship between Annie and Renard, that they are now friends and been for a very long time. And the last isn't exactly good but it isn't bad either, parents do this all the time. Unless we know the full details of why he has done this we cannot judge it. But he didn't sight danger as the reason, did he? He called it nonsense and told her she was not to go back there. If he wanted to keep Annie from her medium duties because of the possible peril involved I could at least see where he was coming from, but he gave no real reason for taking both the forest and Renard from her.

3. The transfer of ownership "doesn't work that way". Meaning, you can't be coerced into doing this. Or it can't be transferred at all. One thing I've been wondering about is: didn't the nature of the bond between Annie and Rey change? I mean sure, in the beginning it was about ownership. But now Renard is more bound by the love he has for her than any technicalities about plush toy ownership. Shouldn't that count for something? Create interferences?

The title of the chapter is "Sneak", which implies that there is something more...directly underhanded going on. Which leans me towards #1 or #2 in my list of theories. Also, look at the thumbail image for this chapter: See those bay windows? Do they look familiar at all? Might this be Eglamore's home we're looking at? Hard to say for sure, but given his history with Anthony and his changed relationship with Rey, would it be surprising if James was involved here?

Maybe the difference is that Anthony isn't an etheric being but her father and an ordinary human being (more or less - there are some mysteries about him that need answering, such as where he's been all this time - and he was going off like that even in his school days so this didn't start with his departure from Good Hope - what he was doing in the Microsat chapter, and what happened to his hand).

Something about Anthony's face has been bugging me for a while (and no, it's not the fact that it looks so punchable (though it does) and I've finally figured out why: it looks too detailed. Too many lines and too much shading in comparison to most of the others in the comic. It gives a weird uncanny valley effect that kind of reminds me of the Thin Men from XCOM: Enemy Unknown. I think that's why a lot of people were immediately put off by Anthony: his face is so wrong compared to the more cartoony style the comic has seen until now.

I'm going to guess that Anthony has just discovered that it's impossible for him to take "ownership" of Reynard because the antimony symbol on the toy "forms a binding magical contract" (to borrow an expression from a different tale) and transferring ownership of the toy would either not work, or break the contract and release Rey.
Annie could order Rey to go into a different toy with eyes which has a symbol which would bind him to Anthony, but the instant he left the toy wolf, he would be released from that order and could choose to disobey it.
Either that, or he's just tried to talk to Rey and discovered that he refuses to do anything (due to Annie's order) and he wants Annie to remove the order. Then he'll declare his intention to take ownership of Rey, who will laugh out loud and point out how impossible that is.
Of course, there's the possibility that Annie giving the toy to her father won't actually transfer ownership, but only custody. Which will mean that Anthony will still be unable to gain Rey's cooperation without Annie giving Rey a direct order to cooperate. But I'd think that would come perilously close to breaking the contract.

Yeah, you got to think of him less as a regular teacher and more like well, Annie's father. If the character behaved the same way, but lacked that connection to Annie, she'd be more inclined to stick up for herself.

I know this contradicts canon, but I can just see Kat walking back from her visit with Annie and suddenly a graffiti of a face on a random wall says, "Hey, kid..." "Bring me a plushie, and then it's ass-kicking time. The target's name starts with an A and ends with a Y."

I would've half-expected Tony to be perfectly fine just having him and locking him away in a safe somewhere. The fact that he needs the two of them for some reason, be it their assistance or knowledge, means he may have plans for Rey beyond upholding the boringest letter of the law. I just can't think of what that could be. What experiments on Rey would produce results that'd matter to him? Or what intel does Rey know that he can't get elsewhere?
