I was thinking recently about the mysterious link between Surma and Reynardine. Now, it seems strange that Surma, from what we know of her, should have been close to a body-snatching demon. She was clearly a good and loving mother to Annie (Chapter Sixteen has only made that clear all the more). Also, Eglamore and the Donlans apparently still have good memories of her (with Eglamore, indeed, having evidently not quite gotten over her marrying Anthony instead of him); they certainly don't seem to think of her as someone who strayed off the path into darkness. So unless Surma did an exceptionally good job of deceiving everyone about her true nature, her ties with Reynardine were evidently something other than an alliance of two villains.
I should check to see if Reynardine has ever said anything to indicate that Surma specifically knew him; he clearly knew her, but he might have just watched her from the side without ever meeting her directly. He might have had some kind of crush (or stalker's obsession) instead. Or Surma might have only had dealings with him in what (to her) was regular medium work, but which seemed more than that to Reynardine.
It's also possible that Reynardine wasn't a body-stealing demon when he met Surma. He might have originally had a regular body of his own (say, a talking fox - it would fit his name), and then might have somehow lost it in an accident and found a way to leave it to become a body-stealer, at some later date (maybe by the time that Surma had left Gunnerkrigg and wound up in the hospital after giving birth to Annie). (I do think it safe to assume that Sivo was not his first victim; presumably there must have been at least one other before him, for Eglamore to discover what happens to Reynardine's victims once he leaves their bodies.)
While Coyote seems to have known about the connection between Reynardine and Surma, I doubt that the Donlans or Eglamore knew about it. If they had, they would probably have told Annie after finding out about her keeping Reynardine with her; if they were aware of the link, it wouldn't be hard for them to guess that Annie's refusal to turn Reynardine over to Eglamore might be partly because the animated plush wolf is one of her few remaining links to her mother. And letting Annie know the true story might be better than leaving her ignorant and looking in the wrong places for answers - answers that could lead to more trouble. So maybe Surma kept whatever ties she had to Reynardine a secret (that might be one more trait she and Annie share).
But all of this is still only speculation (though, I think, less wild than most, which is why I didn't include it in the "wild speculations" thread).
