Scoured the forum and didn't find any other threads with this topic, so I figured I might as well toss it in for discussion. I was browsing another comic site and came upon the link to the CCA, and after looking down the list found that Gunnerkrigg is nominated for Outstanding Environment Design, Outstanding Long Form Comic, Outstanding Fantasy Comic, and is in fact an Outstanding Comic finalist. Congratulations, Tom. Here's the site with the list of all nominees: www.ccawards.com/2007.htm

Tom did win outstanding newcomer last year (can't remember if there was anything else) and I'd say everything about the comic has gotten better since then – not that it wasn't awesome to begin with. Even against the excellent competition I'd say there's a fair chance of winning the Outstanding Comic award this year.

The competing nominees are much more mainstream but I'd say GC's chances are fair. Nice to see that Between Two Worlds got nominated too, as well as Stuff Sucks (Liz is Dutch. Go Liz!)

I really think Tom should enter Gunnerkrigg Court into some form of webcomic list. With his already zealous followers it would probably not take long to increase readership dramatically. Any reasons why this wouldn't be a good idea?

I'd vote for GC if it went up on sites like Topwebcomics for sure. I'm sure it would get into the top 10 in weeks. But I could also imagine that it attracts more attention than you can handle, and I'd want to be sure that it would not start interfering with my job, my free time, etc. I guess it's a good idea if you can afford to go for the comic on a full time basis.

Does the webcomic artist have to put it up or can we do it?

We can probably put it up, but we should probably get Tom's permission first.

Don't you have to put link buttons and stuff like that on your website to be accepted in those kinds of lists? I am not too keen on adding extra stuff like that to the site. It was a hard enough decision to put up the Paypal button and Project Wonderful adverts. However, I guess that column on the left side of the page is made for extra stuff like that... Maybe I should look into it.

It would be no bigger than the paypal button, and really, no-one would mind. You could even put a stylized "vote" button beneath the archives book cast art link buttons, which directed to a page containing only vote-buttons. I don't think they (list-people) have any rules against it, but I wouldn't know, don't run a webcomic.

The GC site does look really nice the way it is. I like the clean, professional look. Hopefully La Poire's suggestion would work. But if it doesn't, so be it. I'll push a vote button anyway!

Heh, the awards page is how I found GC too. I'm STILL going through the list of the ones I don't knw before I cast my vote, but GC definitely has my ballot for the outstanding enviorment one

I think they let you use whatever button you want, since Inverloch and a few other comics make their own.
