Okay, so Annie's going to non-nonchalantly snap Jackalope in two.
That seems to answer the question of whether or not actual killing is how the transfer goes about.

Seriously though, I wonder how "Totem" will make its way into this story?

What if there isn't a transfer? What if a new body is created with all the original's memories without taking anything from the original? It would just be another person, and the original would die for no reason.

Yes, yes, I do in fact like this part, indeed!!! Very much, in fact, oh yes!
It's the most entertaining thing to happen to me this whole minute!

What's this? Could it be that Fire Head Girl hasn't been paying attention to her studies?
(I'm sure Kat will have a copy of 'Old Man's War' somewhere)

There's nothing foreboding about having the ability to rip souls out of bodies. Nothing at all!
Too bad that won't work on a certain river resident, huehue.

It would just be another person, and the original would die for no reason. I suspect that it's something along these lines: The body is recreated on the Court side (due to their mastery of physical sciences like biology), and then once the body has been...separated from the spirit on the Forest side, the Jackalope's aiúa is taken by our resident Guide to be reunited with the new body on the other side. But who knows. Also, called it. I hope they don't have to kill her. That would be a downer.

Not sure if relevant or not, but it seems Coyote's drawn in a slightly different style near the bottom of the page. Flatter, less detailed.. crude?

To be fair though, Annie does indeed know quite a bit about transporting souls out of bodies.. Shit just got real etheric.

Guys, what if, like, the jackalope-turned guy is who Annie will fall in love with?

Hmm, interesting twist, Coyote will make Annie kill the rabbit. Despite her experience of guiding souls to the afterlife, Annie hasn't killed anything sentient before (not sure the insect she used to summon Ketrek counts as intelligent).
Kat has both given life and taken it away, Annie will find this more difficult I feel.

I'm not so sure this is going to be a big problem for Annie. She'll sure be hesitant at first and maybe try to talk her way out of it. But in the end, I think, she'll just do what must be done.

It would just be another person, and the original would die for no reason. If my atoms are scanned and reproduced to create an identical clone, will it be the 'same' as me? If the clone kills my 'original' form, am I still dead? Do clones have a soul? Stay tuned next week, as Annie creates a PHILOSOPHICAL ZOMBIE!

I'm kidding of course, it'd be much easier to just kill miss cute cuddly wuddly edible rabbit
Annie can remember her sacrifice by sewing her discarded body into a fashionable purse :3

It would just be another person, and the original would die for no reason. Red explicitly remembers Ysengrin killing her and her friend. Unless they were told about it later by someone, it stands to reason that the spirit not only travels to the new body but remembers everything up to the point where their forest bodies were killed.

Antimony needs to realize that jackalope will make for good eating. Coyote's been trying to hint at the upside to killing her, but Annie's just not getting that body-swap means dinner for the forest-side officiator.

The Shocking Truth about Coyote
Once long ago, Wile E. Coyote was trying to eat a rabbit named Bugs Bunny, but the rascally rabbit kept getting away. But then Coyote discovered a way to trick the rabbit to *want* to be eaten. Suddenly Coyote always with a full meal of rabbit, road runner, pigeon or other delicious prey.
Coyote grew more powerful as each time he stole some of the magic essence of his food and added it to his own.
And thus Coyote lives happily ever after.
PS: Coyote is a "big admirer" of humans because convincing his prey to want to be human keeps Coyote well fed.

I think Coyote's planning on making Annie do it...for reasons of his own we can never guess at, beyond the obvious "mess with Annie for lulz" reason. And whatever Annie does, it will be peaceable.

Etherically maybe? Perhaps she can just drain the rabbit's life force, a la Eragon? Maybe she'll decapitate it with Coyote's tooth... I wish the rabbit would say something.

At least have it give its assent somehow!

Once a human, she can eat her own body. Weird, huh. It would be kinda cool if she did that. If I ever become a forest creature, I'll be a carnivore and eat my own body. (then I'll develop a taste for human flesh.)
