Her face is great when she looks in the storage room.

Yes, I love her curious expression. Mallt is such an old hag, though... She's frightening Annie a little, I think. The Moddy Dhoo is way nicer.

So now they have to explain to *two* children that the little boy has died.
I think that Annie (once she understands what's going on) will solve the problem by having the boy decide whom to go with. But we'll have to wait to see if that's what happens.

But didn't the psychopomps say something about Annie just needing to be there and everything would sort itself out? Sounds to me like she doesn't need to do anything specific. (But in that case, why does she really need to pay attention?)

I don't think that Annie is going to understand what's going on. She's mentioned that it took her a while to figure out what the Guides were doing.

popo, I think you're right. But I really don't see how she'll be able to help the little boy if she doesn't get what death is. Maybe she'll make a total mess out of the situation?

Awww, the cute is almost unbearable here. Poor thing still has such a limited understanding of what's going on.

I dont think a strong understanding of the afterlife is required here. All we have here is a little lost boy who is scared because all his family is missing and he is alone in a hospital. Incidentally there is a talking dog with glowing eyes and a mean old lady both arguing about who is supposed to take him to his family. Incidentally, none of the grownups seem to care or even hear what he is saying.
Very many below the age of 10, and some few up to the age of 20 would be pissing their pants. All the kid needs is a friendly face to talk to. Annie seems friendly enough.
Does anyone feel this story has something to do with MORT? It would be cool if it did.

Does anyone feel this story has something to do with MORT? It would be cool if it did. Yes, except, if the little boy does become a ghost, he'd be more likely to haunt Good Hope (as the place where he died) than Gunnerkrigg Court.

I don't think that Annie is going to understand what's going on. She's mentioned that it took her a while to figure out what the Guides were doing. I'm guessing this could be story of how she came to understand what's happening.

I dunno, I always assumed she found out when her mom died.

She said that she didn't know "for the longest time" what was going on (or something like that); funny enough, I think she's going to solve the problem without really knowing that the boy is dead. She knows already that he must go with either the dog or the old lady, and that mom and sis went with dog, and dad went with old lady, enough info to solve the situation.
This happened "shortly" after meeting Muut (I think) so I'm not sure if she's going to find out about the whole Guide thing right now.
