Obligatory D'awwI guess if she's used to doing this, it explains how she was so casual about giving spankies to Coyote.

Oh, that's just what I thought was happening! It's sad the family can't all stay together, though. It's sad the boy has to choose between his parents.

It never says that they're going to different places, just that different people take them there.

It is hard to believe Annie acting so childlike although I CAN believe a child would monkey about like that.

So the dispute *does* arise from the boy in question being at the crossing point of Mallt and Moddey's jurisdictions.
Something tells me that the Moddey Dhoo does not get his tail pulled by small children very often. It says a lot about Annie as a child that this is how she responds to a great black dog with fiery eyes.

Well, her mother trusts the Moddey Dhoo, so it can't be too scary and evil, right?

I wonder what the Moddey Dhoo's argument will be. Mallt has made a good case: since there are four family members, she's already got one, and Moddey has two, if Mallt gets the boy, then she and Moddey will have the same number, and the family will be divided equally between them. Moddey will need a good counter-argument after that.

It's hard to tell if Moddey is smiling at Annie or not in the before-last panel. I hope he won't take it the wrong way though.
Also, let me add my D'AWWWWWWW!!!!

If all the family is going to the same place, then Matty and Moddy should take the boy there together. If the family is breaking up, then the boy should get to choose. If he chooses, then Annie's fascination with Moddy indicates he'll go with him.
"Bad Annie!" "Sorry, Moddy, my hands have a mind of their own." "Well, next time we meet, I'm wearin' trousers..."

Well, her mother trusts the Moddey Dhoo, so it can't be too scary and evil, right? Just because something's not evil doesn't mean it's not scary. I mean it's a huge shadowy demon dog with smoking red eyes!

It never says that they're going to different places, just that different people take them there. If you were right, it would make no difference who he goes with, and thus there would be no point in their squabble. More than likely, who he goes with carries a relevant consequence.

Or maybe the guides get paid for every transit.
