"Not anymore." It appears they're being deliberately ambiguous, trying to keep Annie in the dark about the psychopompery for as long as possible.

I don't think they were being ambiguous, rather that death is more a matter-of-fact event to them.

Interesting. I guess we'll find out what type of people these guides are for and maybe how a ghost is made. Hooray!

This might be why they specifically need Annie's help. The little boy is probably scared of black dogs with fiery eyes and crones - scared enough to hide from them - but he might be ready to listen to another child (especially one as friendly as Annie). (Surma might also have worked here, because of her motherliness.)

Speaking as someone who's around a lot of dead people, you tend to use ambiguous turns of phrase as a matter of course, just on the off chance folks who aren't professionals might be around.

Man...i totally lost my prediction there, congrats to those who guessed right. Well, I think that the fact they're guides doesn't mean they can't be polite or take care while talking to a little kid. I think they're being ambigous for Annie's sake. By the way, loved her in pannel 6 and 7. Guess we're going to learn about how ghost are created (that's why it's a ghost story). BUT I REALLY WANNA KNOW WHAT SURMA SAID TO HER!!!!! Happy Holydays for everyone

Random thought: Annie is barefoot. That seems very fitting. It displays a certain familiarity with the hospital. Nice touch, Tom.
Or maybe its just that she's a kid and puttin' on slippers didn't occur to her.
