If they are rooms, they can still be cooler. Maybe each of them will be in bubbles, that float wherever you want them to go. Like if Kat wanted to visit Annie she could just send her bubble over there. And Reynardine could play bumper cars with the other bubbles when no-one's around.
Anti-grav is possible, remember, kids. But I have a feeling it will be a long time 'til we get to see these new bunks.

But what if the antigrav got out of control? The bubbles would be stuck on the ceiling.

Antigrav doesn't mean they'd go up, eh? Plus, if you're in an antigrav field, just jump out and push off the ceiling.
That really would be awesomeness.
I don't suppose Tom would enlighten us on how long until this year at GC is over?

I'm assuming that since no holidays have been noted, they are still in the first term. 3 terms to a year, separated by holidays. Ordinary schools also have a week off halfway through each term, too, but I don't know if that applies to Gunnerkrigg as it's some sort of private, boarding school.

The current chapter is apparently set during the summer (given Kat's complaint about the heat near the beginning), so Year 7 may be almost over.
I wonder if the children attending the Court go home during the holidays (if there are any there) or not. I doubt that it'll apply to Annie and Kat, though; Annie no longer has a home away from the school with her mother dead and father missing, and Kat's parents live there, so that makes it her home as well.

Anti-grav is possible, but it's obviously not common, given the reactions to Kat's science project. In fact, Kat is the only one we actually know has achieved it. Anyway, I have absolutely no idea what the next year's dorm could be like.

I think that Kat's device is the only one or its kind in the world. She is a supper genius which is why she belongs at the court. (her mother being a teacher there doesn't hurt ether)
But That might not prevent the school form adapting her technology.

floating bubbles would be cool, the size should be adjustable, with certain limits of course, but you should be able to comfortably have two or three friends over and have room to spare. Or maybe when you want them to the bubbles can join together to make the bubbles larger and then when you want to leave you just walk through the wall and your bubble forms around you.

They'll be cages. Fully furnished, comfortable and roomish cages. Hanging form the ceiling. Over a bottomless pitch.

What makes it a bottomless pit? Klein Jar? That doesn't have a bottom, I suppose.

Bottomless pits are recursive openings- you fall in, you fall out, you fall back in...
The top bunk isn't quite as dangerous as Blackmantha makes it out to be. My reasoning? Simple. Know anybody that can roll over in their sleep... a foot upwards? The bed is sunk about that far into the floor and is quite wide considering the width of, say, Gunnerkrigg's students (who have been skipping tea methinks)...
Although I'm not sure I would have put the bed so close to the edge, if only because I'm about as coherent as Night of the Living Dead when I first wake up - I spend the first two hours of the day in a sort of autopilot. Knowing me I'd be the first one to wander out of bed and Wile E. Coyote right off the side. Although if I got in the habit of only getting out of bed on one side that could be averted.

Maybe it's not so dangerous heightwise, but there's still the chance of an odd dragon stepping on your head.

I just find it rather silly that there is are iron gratings on the ends perpendicular to the wall but no such gratings on the side parallel to the wall! It would seem the very least they could do would be to cover everything except the ladder. Don't tell me they ran out of iron grates! XD
Which brings up another question... doesn't it look like it would be dangerous getting onto and off of that ladder the way it is positioned? Just me?

Maybe Gunnerkrigg Court is a firm proponent of Darwinism ...a la the Darwin Awards.

The place really would benefit from more safety rails. I've been in factories with more guard rails than this school.
But if they really wanted to be unsafe, they'd use a manlift instead of a ladder. Of course, then you'd need one for going up and another for going down.

Rails on the bridge would cast a shadow.
