Now if I would actually see a school like Gunnerkrigg Court, I'd be checking myself into the nearest nuthouse pretty quick. However, in a story I'm much more open to weird stuff.
It doesn't hurt my suspension of disbelieve to seen magic happening. Ghosts and Psychopomps walking (floating?) around? That's just how the world is. A school that looks like an industrial complex the size of a city? I wonder what it does. They're keeping demons in the same place they teach grade school? They must be there for a reason. I can accept a girl that acts about four times her age. I can even (with a bit of effort) see her classmate inventing anti-gravity in her spare time.
So the one thing that does break my suspense of disbelief is a bit of a surprise. It's the sleeping arrangements. I can't see how any school lets its students sleep next to a 60-meter deadfall.

I think it's cool. At least they have their own room of sorts (though they could do with more walls).

I'd be sure to pick the bottom bunk...woah fear of heights!

I'm on the fear of heights bandwagon as well, but man, even I think those sleeping arrangements look like a big bag o' awesome. It's like having your apartment!

Huh, y'know, this reminds me; Gunnerkrigg Court may not be up to accessibility standards. Wheelchair-bound students might have a challenging time with these sleeping arrangements.
So what's the deal, Tom? Hologram-rooms, secret train systems, but nothing left in the budget for elevators in the dorms, or a few ramps next to the stairs? Who is pocketing the leftover funds!? Spill it!

Nah. I figure the wheelchair-bound have special chairs with grooved wheels that would clamp to the ladder-struts and simply be rolled straight up (they'd need a sort of gear-lock mechanism to make sure that you didn't just roll back down, of course, and a carefully designed release-and-brake mechanism for the return trip down).

There's always teleportation. And, if anit-gravity is possible, maybe they can repair wheelchair bound people? I dunno.

Next year's dorms are even better. I love those bunks, so that's going to be hard to pull off – but in Tom we have faith.

Next year's dorms are even better. Yeah, the beds are all on fire. and the comforters are woven out of snakes.

I am all about the top bunk. The climb up there would be a great workout.

Next year's dorms are even better. I wish you luck in topping the leaning tower of bunks Tom.

In response to the first post: That's the most unrealistic thing you can come up with? Oh-kay... :\
Anywase, I love the bunks. I also think it's great that Tom made Kat's very different from Annies- Kat has a lot more stuff, a roudn mirror, and the shades are more 'pinkish' if that makes any sense. Annie just has her little wold doll, and that's all we really see of her belongings.

It is not the most unrealistic I could come up with, I was just making a poor attempt at humour. i am sorry I am really tired right now so I might not make sense.

Thats cool, the tired part is true though.
As for unrealistic why not seize on the fact that the whole roof of the Dorm caved in and was repaired in under 8 hours?

*snorts at Toms comments* I'd be sure to pick the bottom bunk...woah fear of heights! I would be the exact opposite. I love heights, and would be in Annie's bunk INTENTIONALLY. 60-meter deadfalls sound like FUN IN A BOX. Next year's dorms are even better. Yeah, the beds are all on fire. and the comforters are woven out of snakes. I laughed. A lot. XD

Yeah, I'd be in Annie's bunk too, despite the risk of being stepped on by random dragons. Maybe next year the dorms will be IN A DRAGON. I am trying to compete with the snake comment, but it can't be done.

Man, everything today has to do with dragons. Maybe it's me.
Aaaanyway...dorms. I'd proabably want to be somewhere in the middle. I'm not afraid of heihts, per se, but being THAT high up would make me nervous. I'd definately like the feeling of being in my own little world, though.

TOP BUNK for me. It would be amazing to sleep next to a huge drop, plus the feeling of being superior to everybody else would be pretty intoxicating.

Hmm, top bunk. That way, no-one has any excuse to see your bunk unless they're coming to visit you. Those bunks don't have a lot of privacy.

How can Tom top the Tower of Bunks, any ideas people? maybe make them out of a huge tree with lots of branches and the beds on the ends of the branches with a couple of bunks at the top of the tree.

I think he tops the tower of bunks with a roof... At least, that's what it looked like to me in 'Reynardine'.
Seriously? I think the characters will get rooms as opposed to just bunks.

But how are rooms cooler than the tower of bunks, and I don't mean in temperature.

I like rastarogue's tree idea. It's a pretty thing in my mind...maybe the bunks on the tree should be entirely organic.
