So...now I'm sitting here, alone, uh, talking to myself. ...And that's chaos theory.

(Said this in the comment box, only to realize that the comments don't save between pages) I'm very uncomfortable with this resolution (at least, what I've seen of it so far). It's true, Boat was doing some pretty heinous acts, but as far as I can tell he never intended to hurt anyone - All he wanted was to find love in the only way he believed he could. And now he's dead. And the protagonists are celebrating. Was there something I missed? Some justification for declaring him a complete villain that I didn't see? Because right now I'm really reluctant to go on watching everyone act like they did no wrong. It's pretty clear that the way the boat was going about finding "love" was going to result in the deaths and or serious emotional trauma of at least some students, and the definition of "love" you're talking about is pretty tenuous. A better description is self-centeredness masquerading as love. Attempted murder, as an incidental to trying to get what you want (without considering anyone besides yourself) puts a person pretty squarely in the "villain" category. Every villain (or good villain, at least) has justification for why they do what they do. It doesn't make them any less villainous. It just makes them more relatable. I thijnk thedoctor's right. What the ship felt was lust, not love. It didn't even care that Lindsey was happily married. And such behavior does turn up plenty of times in storytelling from Ravana carrying off Sita in the "Ramayana" to Rabadash lusting after Queen Susan and ready to start a war to seize her in C. S. Lewis' "The Horse and his Boy", always carried out by the villain.

I don't think boat is dead, Kat was just destroying the body she made for it That was my thoughts too, presumably his CPU is still in the boat somewhere. Unless that was one of the first things to be transformed. Also I like how Tom doesn't always take everything so seriously and can put in that last panel to make us laugh at the end of a serious chapter. Tom could be teeing us up so the chapter can end with dark foreshadowing. Provide the reader some emotional relief before smacking them out of the park. Perhaps a glimpse into what the robots or the Court may think of these events. "It was worth it" or "the experiment is proceeding on schedule". Nice to see that Paz has no issue being in a relationship with a mecha-angel. Or her powers of denial kicked in and she shrugged it off as a trick of the mind caused by the blue smoke.

I'm having mixed feelings about this too. When I saw Kat's expression of defiance in 1442, I hoped/expected it would be aimed at the other students rather than towards the ship. She'd shock the whaleship into a brief and unnatural life, it would have a short "tears in rain" speech, the other students would realize the actual consequences of their little adventure, and it would take the edge off the celebrations, providing a little something that the chapter (so far) seems to be missing.
Now, with the whale body the colour of burnt toast in the background, it rather supports the impression that Kat, after being shocked out of the flow of building the whale body and noticing that the ship's jig was up and everyone else was expressing triumph and concern with each other's safety, felt she needed to get in on the post-action posturing, frying the whale and telling off the robots... and I just don't know if that reflects well on her, however much the robots deserve being told off by somebody.
I'll forgive her if the chapter ends with Kat meeting the Seraphs in a secret basement and saying, "Guys, you understand I had to turn around and put on that show, you know? Now let's get down to business."

You see, Annie was raised in a hospital; her stance on some things may be little more practical than that of the most. gkc welp.png (71.66 KB)

I'm relieved, as well. When you're young and in love, you overlook a lot of things. Then again, we don't know how Paz is. On seeing the Robodess, the previous page's last panel could have had a "Meow" thought bubble. For now, everyone's happy, except for douchebag AIs.

It's times like this... Busy weaseling foxing his way into position of a Trusted Advisor to the Robot King? I call it: on the next page, Rey appears, says "good job, Antimony" and hugs her. At least, Lindsey is too smart to show initiative in this regard... I feel a great disturbance in the Force...like a million Annie/whoever shippers screaming, then cut short. No-o-o... they're still going.

Well no one else seems shocked by Angel Kat, so Im gonna go with only Paz saw it. At least if I were one of their friends and saw Kat turn into some weird robot thing Id have gone over and made sure she was ok first.
Ive also been really happy with Jack and Jenny's relationship and how Jenny is more than just a Zimmy clone.

Also, it may be a bit of a sore point due to one user, who was since banned, who repeatedly brought it up against the wishes of everyone else.

Kind of disappointed we didn't get more time with Robo-Kat. Hoping someone comments on it at least once before the wrapping up finishes.

I hope someone besides Paz saw robo-kat. It'd be kinda lame if it was just a blink and you miss it Pazllucination.
And Annie clearly needs to get a dungeon for storing friends. That way they can't go out and make other friends (or lovers).

Because right now I'm really reluctant to go on watching everyone act like they did no wrong. We had this chat a while ago, almost in reverse...let me go find that link... EDIT: the second half of this thread. Anyway, we'd essentially come to the conclusion that, although many of us do have sympathy for the ship, he did something rash, dangerous, and self-serving that really does place him as a villain, albeit a sympathetic one. The phrase I used, I think, was "good ends, bad means". Remember how perilous Zimmingham really is! That's where Jack's mind was enslaved, and WoT says that's not close to the most dangerous thing there. To me it actually seems sloppy that the kids could stroll around Zimmingham without running into anything dangerous at all (I hope we are given a reason for this sometime). I don't think the Ship deserved to die for this. Actually, I'm of the opinion that, until otherwise informed, the Ship's mind was not in that whale-beast. But when one tries to coerce a Goddess, one may be smited.

Have we seen any of the foley students on the cruise? From what we've seen previously it seems like the jackalope would end up in foley, and at least to my recollection none of those guys have shown up on the cruise.

Call it now : Paz is doing like there's nothing wrong for now, but she will go see Annie to tell her what she (thinks she) have seen about Kat, because she's concerned.
