Shadow: Long time lurker, first time posting in Zimmingham...
Add Shadow to the long list of characters experiencing Zimmingham for the first time, with potentially bizarre results.

I think Annie is the only other student aware of the robo-cult. The other students know that Kat can get the robots to do what she asks, but I don't think they know that she reached cult status. Maybe Paz has figured it out too, but we haven't seen that in comic yet. I think Annie is even more aware of the robo-cult than Kat. Kat is just being Kat while Annie is more of an external observer. We haven't seen Shadow and Annie talking about the robo-cult in comic either, but it may have happened. And finally, I think Annie is emphasizing the Angel part to spur the RoboKing into action. I suspect that Annie is still not keen about the robo-cult, particularly after the events of this chapter.

From a diplomacy perspective, getting robots to help (fix the mess made by robots) makes sense... helps prevent humans from turning hostile to robots.
Of course this also proves that Annie is secretly in love with boxbot, hoping her knight in boxy armour will come and rescue her.

It would have made more sense to call the Donlans, Eggers, Jones, Parley and Smitty, especially since the robots are kind of silly and naive. However, maybe Annie just figured that RoboKing is best able to deal with this short of contacting the court proper. RoboKing does have untold numbers of robots with varied abilities at his disposal, and is probably more familiar with the Seraphim than anyone else Annie could call. Maybe Rey will call the other adults on the next page? It makes sense that Annie doesn't trust the court, if not for fear of what they might do then just for all the stuff they've done, like chose Smitty for medium over Annie, the secret research of ether, how they treat Rey, what they did to Jeanne etc. But it doesn't make sense to me that she wouldn't trust the adults friendly to her - they do not represent or even fully understand the court themselves.

I find it interesting that Annie trusted neither Anja nor Parley, even if they would have been obvious choices, and as she seemingly wants to work this past the court, it may be she just doesn't trust the court and feared that they are too close to court not to speak to it. From a diplomacy perspective, getting robots to help (fix the mess made by robots) makes sense... helps prevent humans from turning hostile to robots. Calling a robot to fix another robot's mess is probably Annie's most brilliant idea to date! Also, it's totally something she would do: find a way to sort things out without getting the "adults" involved and drawing as little attention as possible. Yet it caught us completely by surprise. It is kind of funny how we all assumed that all of the robots were involved in the cruise ship incident and that Robot was on their side. Nah. I, for one, never thought that Kat's cult might be on board with this crazy plan; but it never occurred to me that they could be the cavalry, either. I guess I sort of assumed that the Seraphs were in charge, and other robots wouldn't be in a position to oppose them. Anyway, what can the robots do if everyone is stuck in Zimmingham? Ah, but they aren't. The etheric distortion didn't send the ship over to Zimmingham: it brought Zimmingham in on top of the ship. This is taking place in the real world; or rather, a brutal -an probably unstable- mash-up of Zimmingham and our reality*. Roboking, shameless puns.. this chapter is just gonna keep escalating isn't it. Tom too must have got his Eyebrows of Seriousness on Ò_Ó*Eye of Terror, anyone?

Well, I'm happy that Shadow 2 gets some of the action now, along with Robot who, as you guys have correctly assumed, is not part of this shenanigan. Hopefully, Annie's actions will not alert the Court of some of the... society of robots that exist.
We all pondered about Annie contacting Lindsey. Well, what does Lindsey herself has to say about what happened? Won't she alert the Court as Annie alerted the Cult of Kat?

The last panel made me wonder if that marker is actually grape-scented. I think it must be. A waft of (artificial) fruit scent whenever the King changes his expression would really add gravitas to his persona.

I don't see it as a trust issue at all - she's acting as a Medium here. If the problem involved the Forest, I don't think she would have gone to the Court either, but tried to send a message to Coyote or Ysengrin that there was a situation with their own people. I think this is Annie recognizing that the robots are their own People. It's a courtesy, and I think quite insightful, to allow them the opportunity to police their own.

Oh, Annie... What help does she expect from the tambourine bot and Co? Peer-pressure the loveboat via radio link? A little late for that. Also: Seraphists vs Sharpists: another schism in the works Was a matter of time. But why "Sharpists"? Did anyone actually think that the Robot King would be the one to help? One can of Wacky Hijinks Solution coming up! She did hang out with fairies a little too much, didn't she? There's been a decent amount of speculation about the Seraphs. They clearly do not see Kat as a divine being worthy of reverence the way Robocult does. But, wasn't it the Seraphs that bestowed the mark of the creator upon Katerina? They clearly do view her as a divine being, perhaps even more extremely so than the other robots, as evidenced by the events of the current chapter. Roles of "divine beings" may vary.

I just realized that Rey asked Annie if she was hurt because he can see that she is etherically choked - only her eye is visible, while typically she's able to project most of her etheric self through.

It is kind of funny how we all assumed that all of the robots were involved in the cruise ship incident and that Robot was on their side. Perhaps this whole occurrence will, once everything is resolved, just be written off as the actions of a renegade few (the ship and the Seraphs) with no long term repercussions on the role of robots within the court. I for one never assumed this. There was actually a pretty in-depth discussion on the subject back a little while. Oh, Annie... What help does she expect from the tambourine bot and Co? Peer-pressure the loveboat via radio link? A little late for that. Was a matter of time. But why "Sharpists"? I suspect it was derived from Sharpie brand markers. It might also be a reference to the joke at the bottom of the page. Acute angles = sharp

I would have thought Parley and Smitty would be the obvious choice as they could simply teleport Zimmy and Gamma away, solving the problem in literally a minute.
I guess that wouldn't be as good a story though.

I suspect it was derived from Sharpie brand markers. It might also be a reference to the joke at the bottom of the page. Acute angles = sharp Good god, now I get it! Hah! (By the way, is the double "their" in Tom's comment a typo or another part of the joke I don't get?) I think the trouble with contacting the Court is, apart from Annie's trust issues, how unpredictable it is. If something similar were to happen in real life - say, a bus full of students was hijacked while on the way to a field trip - and one student was able to contact a family member, what would happen next? The family would get the poliece involved and contact the school. The poliece would come immediately, do everything in their power, and, after some interrogating, would leave them to their legal guardians (I actually have no idea about poliece prtocoll so I am guessing here). And the school would most likely not pry into what happened exactly and what each student did in or before that situation. But what would happen if Annie had contacted the Donlans or Eglamore, the closest thing she has to family at the Court (apart from Kat of course)? The Donlans and Eggers probably couldn't deal with this on their own, they would have to get some executive authority involved. At the court that seem to be those people we saw in Spring Heeled. Now, how fast would the Court react? Would they get out immediately or need convincing? And if they come and help the students (which I am sure they would do at some point) what happens afterwards? What would they do with Zimmy and Gamma, who made the danger possible? What would they do with Kat, whose research seems to have cause all of this? How would this event affect the rest of the students? Would they simply be treated as victims of a kidnapping, or would the Court assess how they handled the situation to further their records on the students? It's really hard to tell what the Court would and would not do if they got involved...

I guess that wouldn't be as good a story though. Would Parley's powers work reliably during a level 6 etheric distortion, though? And I don't even want to know what would happen if Andrew ever got near Zimmy-without-Gamma. (I'm kidding, I would very much like to know!)

They're doing their own experiments in this vein so they're probably quite aware of how potentially dangerous it could be. But I think Annie's wise to be going through the robots. First, this way will hopefully deflect some of the fallout on Kat and Robot. Second, the Seraphs probably set all this up using the network of robots who seem to run practically everything in the court. The robots themselves are probably in the best position to track and disable the ether siphons around the ship, hopefully putting an end to this.

But I think Annie's wise to be going through the robots. First, this way will hopefully deflect some of the fallout on Kat and Robot. Some, but not all. The Court is going to have to find out about this soon, since: 1. There are a lot of students on the boat - enough that someone is almost certainly going to mention this when they get back to the Court. Even if Annie swears them all to silence, or tries to do so, I'm certain that there'll be a few who believe in telling the teachers about it rather than in keeping it to themselves - and even if there are no students like that in Year Nine, someone is going to let slip about it by accident. 2. The robot rescue party is bound to attract attention - a whole crowd of robots charging off to sea, the Robot King no doubt in the vanguard like Theoden King leading the Ride of the Rohirrim - the Court's human staff is bound to notice that and ask questions. And from what we've seen of them so far, the robots are terrible at keeping secrets. It would no doubt go something like this. COURT OFFICIAL: What are you doing? ROBOT: We can't tell. We promised we wouldn't let anyone know that the cruise ship's been taken over by Seraphs who are doing some horrible reality-warping experiment on board and that Angel Kat's in danger! COURT OFFICIAL: The Seraphs have taken over the cruise ship with Year Nine on board? ROBOT: Ack! How did you find out? Help, we've got a leak! With so many people involved (both the students and the robots), the Court can't stay in the dark for long. And the higher-ups might be even angrier at Annie for her withholding this information from them.

And from what we've seen of them so far, the robots are terrible at keeping secrets. I'm not sure either of those things is going to be a problem. From what we've seen so far, the Court doesn't care a whole lot about what either the robots or the students are up to. They may be watching, but as long as no-one interferes with their interests they pretty much leave them to their own devices. Just look at all the robot-centric chapters (Mainly Involves Robots, S1, Sky Watcher and the Angel, Give and Take): There's robots all over the place. There are large sections of the court which they appear to run autonomously. They frequently tend to show up in hordes. No one as much as batted an eye when a whole lot of them went to the girls dorm during Faraway Morning, for example. A bunch of them heading to the sea might earn them some puzzled looks, but that's it. And as for the kids telling the adults, after the fact, it'll of course depend a lot on how this whole thing ends. But assuming no one gets hurt, again, they'll just chalk it up to wacky robot hi-jinx.

One of her pastime activities could very well be considered "interfering with the Court's interest". Namely the liberation of Jeanne's ghost. Now that I think about it, the robots are connected to Jeanne as well, through the robo-cult. Careful, Annie, careful...

Except the Court doesn't know about it - doesn't even know about Jeanne's ghost or Jeanne at all, thanks to the "Ministry of Truth"-style cover-up carried out by the Founders.
