You guys can't imagine how much I'm laughing right now. Seriously, if I was smiling any wider the top half of my head was gonna fall off!* As celebration, (big cookie image) Too big? No! not big enough! more! Give me all your cookies! That is, of course, the very one. Here, have one of my cookies, I sure can spare a few right now. Also, for visualisation: www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1437... the part of being madly in love with Lindsey!!! I'm in awe! I hope you guys are aware that part was just me being silly. I do not ship ShipXLindsey. Anyway, as silly predictions go, try this one for size: This chapter will end with Lindsey vs. The Cruise Ship
FIGHT!

This is that awkward moment in Kat's life when she discovers one of the harsh realities of adulthood: that all the hard work and research she has done in the belief that it will improve the lives of robotkind and mankind alike in order to build a better future gets misappropriated by someone looking to score with a woman.

Between Paz's enthusiasm in the page you linked to and someone's earlier comment about how her pose in today's page echo's that of the sailor bot in front of her I am starting to wonder if the ship may have found a way to link with her. I think it is unlikely, but, well, anything is possible in the Gunnerverse and the ship will want some leverage over Kat. Ship's AI certainly does not seem to have the same reverence for Kat that those bots following Robot have developed. Given Paz's proclivity for animals (and the fact that she already knew about Lindsay's species), probably not? I mean, the ship already has Kat's entire class, including Paz and Annie, stranded in the middle of a roiling ocean. That's pretty good leverage right there. Yeah. I agree it is a bit farfetched, but it is a slim possibility. And given that I had an inkling about the ship being a robot AI and never said anything until others spoke up I just wanted to share my wild spec hunch about Paz /maybe/ somehow being under the influence of the ship.

Wasn't there a special GKC comic about how to properly spurn a robot's romantic advances?
How did it all go again? Inform the ship that it is a lesser appliance and then mock it in front of it's friends?

Hahaha, this is a great page. Congratulations on seeing this beforehand eightyfour.
Annie, Kat and all their friends will have to shut down the cruise from the inside while Lindsey will distract it from outside.

Wow, talk about mood whiplash! And Sis, I hate to say "I told you so," but...I told you so... Also, I guess we now understand why they don't talk like the Geth; they are more like appendages than a hivemind. I wonder how long it took to build this consensus? Ok, I'm done with geth jokes now...

Aren't we jumping to conclusions when we describe the students as hostages or prisoners? The robots have not called them that, have not offered them violence, tried to physically restrain them, etc. All they've done is interrupt the dance and request Kat to make the ship "flesh". (And if the Seraphs in "Changes" are any indication, their programming wouldn't allow them to harm the students.)
I think this is simply an example of the robots' naivete and ignorance of human perspective; they unwittingly carried out their request to Kat in a manner that seems threatening, but isn't intended to be. Another example of "The trouble with artificial intelligence is it's artificial."

It sounds more like demanding then requesting I think, but you are right it did not threaten them. That's not proof they can't harm humans. And the ship is not necessarily bound by the same rules. possible

At least ShipBot isn't trying to appropriate Kat's work to rule/destroy the world. ShipBot don't want to set the world on fire. ShipBot just wants to start a flame in her heart. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l6vqPUM_FE

8th post: I'll bet Lindsey never thought she'd have to use this!Ok, I'm sorry! mea culpa mea culpa! I caught the comic kinda on my way out the door and didn't have much time to read the thread, too, so I just posted the first thing that popped into my head. I'll be more careful next time.
Now that I've had a little while to think about it though.... Remember how all the robot's in Jeanne's tomb seemed to be fancier antique versions of the modern court robots? And while a cruise-ship sized robot obviously wouldn't fit in that tomb, I'm wondering if there isn't an automated Spanish galleon hiding out somewhere in the recesses of the court.

It's just as likely, that they're budding intellects, are reaching out. Naive love can be as demanding as the Love Boat is being. No more different than Diego, but no less dangerous. It did wait till they were in the middle of the ocean to ask, which is disconcerting. Maybe, the Seraphs can give them the low-down. Otherwise, with all parties involved, this could get pretty ugly.

FIGHT! Yeah, we are aware you were being silly. But you were right regardless. I ship the Lindsey v. The Cruise Ship warship!
...as long as it works well with the bigger Thread of Kat v. Annie Aren't we jumping to conclusions when we describe the students as hostages or prisoners? Whether they are that now, they are bound to become that if things go awry, regardless of the original plan.

Adequately connected, I should say, since I no longer reside in the UK but back at home. I was also looking for some cute kitteh webcams online, to little avail. Most seem to be asleep, seeing it's 2+ am there. Also, I have very good decision-making skills and judgement in terms of these kinds of situations.

Whether they are that now, they are bound to become that if things go awry, regardless of the original plan. While I can see Kat assuming that the ship is threatening the passengers, I don't think that the Court robots have it in for them to actually do harm to the students. It would be actually funny to see the ship confused over why Kat would think it would harm her classmates, and just pestering her to make it flesh, already.

Gill cleaning! So that's why one flesh limb would be the threshold for a robot's desire for flesh. It all falls into place. Now Kat needs to decide how many feelers and where to install to get the most hot action: port, starboard, bow, or underside. And if the "flesh" is hardwired or socketed. Bud may be in trouble, not sure he can compete in the size speed or endurance department with machine. Then again with their species they might have differing standards of fidelity... in other words, they might be just "ships" that pass in the night? dude that was really unnecessary. like, how old are you, even? edit: actually no you're all clearly just yukking it up with your giant mutual robo-dildo joke fantasy so why should i even pick on one person? tom's readership sure is a bunch of class acts.

You are correct that I am yukking it up but not entirely correct about the dildo joke (with me at least). As I said before: Oh dear, I was thinking how Kat was supposed to replace most of the ship's hull with artificial flesh, but this makes more sense. Also, would probably leave even greater mark on Kat's psyche, having to to grow a gigantic artificial dong while all her classmates are watching / held hostages. No no, gill cleaning is more like a kiss (or foreplay at worst). I guess the closest we have to it is an Eskimo kiss. The Love Boat would not need a giant anything considering Bud's size, just privacy, so if anything the class would be issued seasickness pillz and sent below decks to ride things out with the portholes shut and the curtains closed. Once equipped with the flesh appendage the Love Boat should be capable of giving Lindsay something like a kiss; I am not saying that Mr. Siddell is having Kat build a giant strap-on. And if theoretical comparative xenobiology jokes are not your forte perhaps you should ignore this thread.

My great apologies if someone has already pointed this out, but obviously the Court didn't pay attention to their Star Trek lessons, particularly, "Never give a computer complete/sole control of a huge ship, or planet destroyer, or planetary government..." It never comes out well, hey? (Though as noted by others, no threats made so far...and Kat IS considered a holy being by them robots.)
