Makes me wonder if we'll ever meet anyone higher in rank than the headmaster. There's this guy from Spring Heeled 2, he seemed to be in charge of something. He does recognize Rey rather quickly. Makes you wonder how wide spread knowledge of Rey and his current circumstances is among the leadership of the court.

Is seems like fire elementals, girls who are frequently mistaken for demons, and elderich crabs outnumber human kids at the court these days. (And maybe even in days gone by.) Could be argued that those ARE the vast majority of kids at the court. Well, taking you literally, we only know of one fire elemental, one demon girl, and two eldrich "crabs" currently at the school. However, in a more figurative sense, I think most of the current-cast students (and quite a lot of the faculty, non-school characters, and flashback characters) we know much about have *some* known extraordinary ability. Annie - fire elemental Kat - robotics wizard Paz - speaker to animals Zimmy - reality warping, telepathic link to Gamma Gamma - damper, telepathic link to Zimmy Janet and/or Willy - preternatural archery possibly indicating telekinetic ability* George - teleporting Andrew - creates order (Hmm, how would his talent interact with Zimmy's?) Jack - I think he kept the jumping ability, didn't he? And possibly a computer or tech wizard Shadow - he's a shadow Former fairies/animals - still live more in the etherium than in the physical world Margo and/or John - possible ghost whisperers Did I miss any? Heck, I think the most ordinary character we know much about may be Doctor Disaster! * For two people to shoot arrows at essentially the same time, and one of them think there's a mentionable chance their arrow will hit the other arrow, is most readily explained by altering the path of the arrows in flight. There are other possible explanations but they are more complex. I read it as Surma and Anja meeting Brynhildr while in Chester, then they get transferred and she doesn't. This would explain them being good friends but not having lunch together any more. The dorms for the past year, that we were shown, looked to me to be about the right size for Queslett. It wasn't indicated that the other three houses were also in the same facility. So nearly everyone who has met Lindsey is from the one house. The rest would be going "What the heck is THAT? It's HUGE! Is it dangerous?" And some of the people who do know Lindsey will be going "Wow! She can do that?!?!?" (Their closest living relatives, horseshoe crabs, are not strong swimmers. However, Tom got this right: they do swim belly-up. Basically, they are "flying wings" and it's the water being forced down by the back of their shell that keeps them up; when not moving, it's nearly all they can do to avoid falling. Fortunately, they spend most of their time walking rather than swimming.) Eventually word will get around that the giant crablike monster is a friend and faculty member.

Just had a creepy thought about this page...in the penultimate panel, Gamma really looks like Jack did when he was spider-infested. For reference, www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=696

Hmmm...Shadow also has limited shapeshifting abilities, and Zimmy has a larger portfolio of powers than you indicated, but you caught all of the students with powers, I think. I believe Jack's been confirmed to no longer be able to fly/jump, since Tom said that was a power from the spider. However, he could conceivably learn to do it like Eggers does. We don't entirely know if Gamma has any powers other than her 'anti-power', since the telepathy could either come from her or Zimmy. If there's a relevant WoT, please correct me. I doubt Janet or William has telekinesis, because they would have demonstrated it in other ways too (though this could change in the future, who knows). Instead, their powers appear to (so far) be limited to the realm of archery, which matches what we know about Steadman. Also, we have no evidence of supernatural archery ability for William. He is, however, the best driver. (Also, just thought of this: doesn't Janet's power imply that the Headmaster is descended from Steadman?) Other (so far) non-powered student characters include Jenny, Becky, and Adam off the top of my head.

Augh, linking to the first page of a chapter? You monsterMan, I forgot how much I liked Annie's depiction in that era. The heavier, variable-width linework was fun.

I know Zimmy has indicated that Gamma has similar etheric abilities to Annie in reference to the fact that Gamma told her she thinks Jack now has, or maybe always had, some etheric ability after the spider incident ("She thinks he can do some of that magic stuff you guys do, I don't really under stand it!) I also seem to recall someone, maybe Jones, maybe WOT saying Gamma actually has a stronger connection to the ether than Annie does. The wording Hyland uses in the page where Brinnie teleports is inclusive, which I read to mean Brinnie (who inspired the comment by teleporting) and Surma and Anja (who are left behind to overhear the comment). WOT has indicated that Brinnie was off to get special lessons from Odin while the others were having lunch.

Relating to the previous discussions about the Court's houses, have there been any characters from Thornhill in the comic?

Having Zimmy on a boat packed with other people seems kind of risky. I wonder who okay'd that decision. I'm betting the court sees pretty much everything they do with students as a grand experiment. One cruise ship's disaster is another person's "advance in our understandings of etheric sciences!" Court Employee 1: "Well, Safety History is written in blood..." Court Employee 2: "Yeah." Court Employee 1: "... of children." Court Employee 2: "Ye- Wait what?" Court Employee 1: "I said, it's going to be a fun cruise!"

Well, Zimmy looks the same as ever. Look forward to seeing where this' going. :3 EDIT: Also, her whole class got invited? Ooooo, maybe some Red & unnamed-blue-fairy-gal (is there a fan-name for her? not sure...). I'm pretty sure Red and Blue are going into year nine, not year ten. I don't think we'll be seeing them around.

What's this about a Wild Ride? Rollercoaster Tycoon woo! (I used to play it a lot at 10 years old) Obligatory "I want to get off MR BONES WILD RIDE!" (Was Brinnie in Chester? Too lazy to go back and check) I think she was in Foley.

I don't understand the PS at all - are you talking about editing a post? Or starting the thread? I can't change the title of a thread I didn't post. Whoeps i mine he not you. (change it) and was only a explain why I now began the 1e post And the man post is not a assault but a quite for everyone how it work. I barely changed the title. I just edited it to include more of the phrase since it was confusing as I had left it.

Zimmy doesn't seem to like sunlight much either.
I believe the guy we saw in Spring Heeled isn't higher in rank than headmaster, merely security/etc at the court. The kinda person we don't see very often.

Is it just me, or do Zimmy's eyes look abnormally small? I thought so too. I think it might be because she's squinting. It's a very bright day out, and she might not be comfortable with all of the light coming in.

Ok, my money is on this being an all-in-your-mind chapter, like "Spring Heeled 2". This came to mind at the beginning, because it seemed so random and surreal that they would be going on a cruise, and then the random collection of people that were going, and the sort of manic happiness that everyone seemed to exhibit. Then, things settled down and started seeming more normal, then these two show up and Gamma is a) smiling manically, and b) looking spider-possessed. Getting kind of trippy...

I like how surreal this chapter is getting. The humans of the court must really trust their safety measures to let fire elementals, demon girls and elderech crabs frolick around their kids Is seems like fire elementals, girls who are frequently mistaken for demons, and elderich crabs outnumber human kids at the court these days. (And maybe even in days gone by.) Could be argued that those ARE the vast majority of kids at the court. Zimmy and Gamma are in Chester, right? Have we ever met any other students from Chester? I've always looked forward to that happening. (Was Brinnie in Chester? Too lazy to go back and check) Surma and Anja were transferred from Chester to Queslett. www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=540 I believe the implication is that Brinnie was also a transferred. On a side note. Check out panel two with the kids in the crowd: Happy face, shocked face, shocked face. I postulate that some of the kids at the court have a passing familiarity with creatures like Lindsey and love for them and some are still getting used to the "wonders of the court" shall we say. Just f.y.i., that word is spelled eldritch (as much as it is spelled at all, and not simply a concept that defies quantification). Also, is my profile image showing up normally? I think my computer's glitching, because I can't see it.

and then the random collection of people that were going The random collection of people are (as far as we have seen) students of a single school who have just completed a certain year of their education in that school. Plus some of the school's faculty. That school is the apparent sponsor of the cruise. My understanding is that this is pretty normal for embarking on a cruise in a luxury cruise ship.

Did we ever find out what about the rain helps Zimmy's eyes come out? Would falling in the sea have the same effect? Or does it have to be the ethereally charged rain like we see in the court? As far as I can tell, it's that water 'carries' etheric energy somehow. The ether station can extract this, or cause a more natural rain if stopped before the extraction begins. In one of the very early chapters, Zimmy says that showers don't work. Processing or piping the water depletes the ether in it, renders it neutral. I'm going to ramble a bit, because it's one of my favorite topics in this comic: When I was growing up, my grandfather had an extensive vegetable garden. He taught my mother to grow food, and she taught me. He always said that watering plants just keeps them alive - only real rain will make them grow. It fits so nicely with the treatment of water in this comic that it brings me joy. The ocean should be brimming with ether. I bet Zimmy would really enjoy a dip. I agree with you, but your word choice bothers me. The water naturally contains etheric energy. It becomes more artificial as it goes through pipes.
