Chapter 25 is released. Interesting, I hadn't thought of the Robot King in that way before, he is the king because he is one of the only robots who can outwardly display emotion. Interesting way of thinking about it. Also the forums overanlysing something that was just an aesthetic art choice? Never!

The man in red, who refuses to be part of the Court's abhorrent plan, is confirmed to be the Artilleryman. Not hard to guess by a process of elimination and red is a traditional color for artillery. But direct confirmation is noteworthy.

But direct confirmation is noteworthy. I'm surprised that Tom revealed it there rather than in the comic - unless he never intended any mystery about who the man was that wanted nothing to do with the Court's plan to murder Jeanne (kind of like his statement that he'd never intended any mystery over who Annie's father was; he'd always intended it to be clear that Anthony was her father).

I also assumed there was going to be at least one more big reveal concerning the Court founders, specifically who the Artilleryman was, why was the Court named after him, and what happened to him after he dissented from the group. Maybe none of those answers support Annie's and Kat's story lines, so they've fallen to the cutting room floor.

There are still a bunch of things we don't know, like why the Artilleryman was so important (the whole place is named after him, after all, and Tom has named him as the leader) but his dissent couldn't stop the situation from Jeanne from happening. Plus Tom confirmed that he was important to the overall plot, but "not yet". And notable in his absence here.

Chapter 27, Spring Heeled, retrospective is up! Chell/Shell is a woman. I thought she was a dude when I first read the comic. When I read that there was some doubt, I looked again and still thought she was a dude. I like short-haired Kat, but long-haired Kat was gorgeous. Anja's hair on Donny's nose!

Chapter 28, Spring Heeled 2, is up on Tom's tumblr and Patreon accounts. I don't see it on his Google+ account yet. The end of Chapter 28 is where we saw the robot who works for the Court, the one who is conspicuously shown in the last panel of today's page. In the retrospective, Tom called the robot and the woman Court secret agents. EDIT: Many readers noted that Kat is wearing the same badge on her chest in the 6th treatise that the Court secret agents are wearing in Chapter 28. We knew it was a Court badge, but it doesn't make sense for secret agents to wear badges. Maybe they put the badges on just for the raid?

When reading the threads from this chapter it always astounds me how many thought Gamma was wrong about Annie and Zimmie before the reveal. Didn't anyone learn anything from the last time this happened?

As Mezzaphor pointed out in one of those threads, Gamma had been wrong before (about Jack being sucked into Zimmingham). That said, I thought it was made clear what was going on. (Also funny from those times: thinking that five pages for a comic thread was remarkably long.)

There's a difference between not being able to sense a guy in a different building and being able to see what's real while Annie can't, though.

Tom also posted the Chapter 29 Retrospective on his Google+ page, but I still don't see Chapter 28 there.

The scene between Annie and Reynard in the beginning is probably my favorite scene in all of Gunnerkrigg Court.

I'm having trouble making out a word at 4:37: "three people to whom her personal problems couldn't be any less [evitseron]..."

The technical drawing stuff in the Fire Spike retrospective was fascinating. I am not the most artistic person, so hearing his thought process is really interesting, especially talking about the lines and panel distortions.

"couldn't be any less of a concern". Thanks. It seemed to be enough of a concern to Coyote to briefly reassure her/use it as leverage...

Nice call out for some of the cosplayers in Annie's forest outfit! RE-EDIT: Tom said that "even though Annie only wears this outfit once so far" when he discussed Annie's Forest outfit. The only other time that we've seen it was in Chapter 48 Tall Tales during one of the tales. Maybe we'll see Annie in it again.

I for one find Kat's story line more interesting that Annie's. A big part of that is that I found it a lot easier to identify with Kat than Annie. For quite a while Kat did not appear to have any extra-normal ability and Kat's reactions and faults were all normal human reactions and faults. I really like Annie's storyline and I can see why others may prefer her storyline, but Kat's character won me over early and that hasn't changed.
